Dealing with the Neighbors...

have you considered writing a long letter to your neighbors, something heartfelt, and I would recomend a touch of what being a "Good Christian" constitutes.. including why you have enjoyed living there in the past, and what life is like today for you and your children.. making this your last attempt to play fair..

could reach a few of the senseless mindless hearts envolved, I would as well send a copy to the association.

a nice letter letting them know, where you stand and how you feel about whats happing to your once friendly neighborhood, making sure that they understand what instilling prejudice in our children could be harmful to them in the long run...

and in the mean time I would contact whatever athorities I need to just to be sure iam keeping all my ducks in a row... with any amount of luck you won't need them, since usually shallow minded people dont do well with confontration of there own faults.

Good luck to you, I know how hard this is to deal with on a daily basis, I doubt I could handle it as tactfully as you seem to be!

Good idea...I haven't considered writing a letter, but I think I will do that. At the very least, it's documentation, even if it doesn't help, right?

The remark about an 'un-Xian' home sound like it could be some basis for religious slander or bigotry. Your neighbors should realize that they could be the next ones in her crosshairs if any of them are Jewish, gay or co-habitating.
I just love it when people bring in religion and/or morality as an excuse to be hateful. Isn't that what Hitler did? As I recall, Scripture commands us to love - not judge.

Thank you for the good advice. And I do still believe in the innate good of humanity...however, I know when that innate good was handed out, my friendly neighborhood annoyance got the bad end of the deal.

I do think it is basis for discrimination. In fact, a great deal of this is basis for that, now that I have spent quite some time perusing the ACLU website.

But I will know much more when I have a pow-wow with Mr. Attorney tomorrow. And I will let you know what happens.

I'm with dollface. The few times I've tried to deal directly by writing letters to my antagonizers, they have taken things out of context and twisted them so badly... Write a letter for yourself, but I wouldn't mail it.... talking to your former good neighbors one on one would be safer, I think.

As far as what's been said already, I heartily agree that you need to document everything with names, dates, what happend. Then, take it to a lawyer.

I've had issues with the neigbors myself. Believe it or not, it started when my son broke up with one the neighbors' daughters! She told a bunch of lies about my son and then the neighbors started to shun us.

Another neigbor is 80+ and simply senile. She's called the cops on the kids because they put a dead bird in her yard, put a snake between her screen door and solid door, walked back and forth to make her motion light go on and off (they were taking the trash cans to the curb) and the list goes on. The cops come, say 'hi' to the kids, and leave. They know she's old and hasn't got a clue.

The neighbor across the street has claimed our kids peed in the snow in his front yard, writing cuss words. For about a year, he had a video camera pointed at my house.

We have a basketball hoop with a moveable base. One time, the kids had moved it to the end of the driveway (it slopes) and were using the street for the basketball court. The neighbor across the street called the cops because they were playing in the street. (one of his pet peeves) The cop shows up, parks his car and for half an hour played with them.

After that, the neighbors pretty much leave us alone. A new neighbor moved in next door. We'd talk sometimes, Jim and I would sit in thier front yard on occasion with a cooler of beer and talk. Then he met the neighbor across the street. He pretty much ignores us now.

So, we're the ones with the wild kids that everybody ignores. Not that I really mind. Most of my friends live at least three blocks away anyway.

I would go to the homeowners association and say if you don't do something about debbie i'll get an attorney and it will cost you a lot because you are not doing your job.

And i would get copies of every complaint that debbie made to the police and cps for your case.

and if you can vedio the threats that would help.

And then i would hold a meeting with all home owners and say i have lived here for so many years and have been a good nieghbor you all know that until so and so moved in and made all this trouble.

But get things together so you can get a law suit ready to go the homeowners association is at fault to they should have done something wrong.

I can not think of the womans name but she is a big vampire story writer and things like that well she bought a church and was going to live in it she remolded it and kept it close to church look she did a great job.

But a bunch of religious people tried to get her from doing anything to the church and they did not want her in it they did what ever they coul;d but lost out anyways.

All I can suggest is that you plan for the worst. Then Document Document and Document some more. If you have to go to court or proceed with legal recourse Documentation is going to pay for itself time and time again.

Then just to get them thinking maybe print up some cards for your kids to hand to the Debbies kids that say something the effect of:

"I have been advised by my Attorny not to comment. However, please be aware that this conversation has been documented.

Thank you."
