Dear Lister,

I think you're cute...and yes, big, mountain of a man types CAN be called cute by their loves.

Don't know when you will see this little lit leaving, and it doesn't matter...it's always true!

ILY

Dear Litster

For once it's not me getting muddy - just sitting back enjoying the, never-ending, drama.

Dear Litster,

The nights are colder,
The days are getting short,
The time of year is coming that you will consume my thoughts.
Take a chance and trust,
In your love for me,
That I will make you happy
For Eternity

don't drink the kool-aid

Dear Litster,

Thank you for the warning...you do realise that another lister and I are from the UK though...so there is no kool-aid this side of the pond...

I will keep a look out for any US imports...or should that be imposters...that might be around though....but I certainly won't be drinking their 'kool-aid'.

~~Steps into the thread, assembles his soapbox, and climbs up...~~

Dear Litster(S):

I will very likely offend someone with this post. I don't want to do that, I truly don't. But someone has to say something about this situation - someone who has not been involved in it until this point. There are people on both sides of this thing that I count among my friends, and whom I care about. I'm going to do my very best to remain squarely in the center of this, and try to point out what I see going on here.

I haven't taken the time to back-read and discover exactly where, how, when or why this entire little flame war began. I don't really care about that part of it, to be honest. What matters to me is that the whole thing is going on at all.

But I will say this: I'm ashamed of everyone involved. That's not to say that any of you should really care *what* I might think. But I'm really disappointed.

I've recently spent a bit of time on the GB. What I see going on here is much more suited to being taken there, where quite often this kind of insult tossing, back-biting, and general "pissiness" is much more the norm than it usually is on the PG.

I've received some PMs from various people on both sides of this issue. Frankly, not one of those PMs has attempted to rationally and calmly explain the writer's position. Every single one of them, without exception, has just been a sort of rant, calling people on the other side of the issue names, making accusations, etc.

Cliques... I don't know that I would choose that particular word, but what the hell. It's been bandied about enough already, so I'll go with it. There are in Lit, just as there are in any other place - be it an online forum, or a group of friends who hang out at the corner bar on their way home from work, groups of people who have struck up friendships. And in Lit, just as in that corner bar, sometimes these are very close-knit groups of friends. Sometimes, it's difficult for "outsiders" to reach a point where the original members of that group feel comfortable enough to accept them "into the fold," so to speak.

To address the "cliques" on a more specific level, there are cliques on *both* sides of this little flame war that seems to be happening. I've only recently returned to the PG from my adventures in the GB, but to repeat, I count people on both of sides of this as my friends. I don't really know who the alts are, nor do I particular care. Alts, nyms, nics, sock-puppets - call them whatever you choose - are, with very rare exceptions, the mark of a coward. They have their uses, but those uses are very limited in their scope, and very quickly, they often turn into a tool used to manipulate and harrass others. They reveal much about the person using them - and I think that everyone should try to remain conscious of that fact. If I have something to say to someone, I will say it using my own username. When alts reach the point of being used indiscriminately, they cause paranoia: In the GB, I was accused very quickly of being an alt for different users over there. Someone even assumed that because the word "Black" is part of my username, that I must be a black man...

We all have friends, and we also all have people whom we don't particularly care for. That's just the way that life is, online and offline. There doesn't even have to be any particular reason for that liking or disliking - sometimes, it just happens. There are people whom I've met, and disliked from that first meeting. But for the most part, I can be civil with them. We've all worked with people that we didn't particularly like, but we got along with them at work, because we had to. Most of us have been in situations where we are in a group of friends, and there is one person there that we simply do *not* like. But we don't start trouble with them. We just try to ignore them as much as possible.

Why does it seem so hard to carry that over to Lit?

You *all* know that I'm not anywhere near being perfect. I've shot my mouth off too quickly here in Lit in the past, and I'm sure that it will probably happen again. There are those in Lit that I call my friends, and I will be loyal to those friends, always - no matter *which* side of this particular situation they may be on. There are people here whom I dislike, but with whom I remain civil, and even post with. And, there are people here whom I utterly despise. I try avoid them, for the most part. I've slipped, but I do *try* to avoid them.

This whole thing seems to me to be slipping downwards into an extremely juvenile little game of "He said, she said." That's just stupid.

I have friends here. Some of those friends dislike each other, and that's their choice, or better, that's just the way that it is. But I'll put it this way: Not one of those I call my friend has abandonded me simply because I also happen to be friends with someone they don't like.

Now, to be a bit more specific...

I have been accused in the past of being one of DB's "minions." Excuse me?? I am *NO ONE'S* minion. DB is my friend, period. We have had good conversations together, both in and out of Lit. We met through a mutual friend who no longer posts here in Lit. For those who have PMed me about the "transgressions" of DB and the Slitches, forget it. I'm not taking sides in this, nor am I about to abandon those people on *that* side whom I count as my friends.

I have been accused in the past of being one of those "the world is always cute and cuddly and happy" people. Excuse me?? I know *FAR BETTER* than many that the world can be one big mind-fuck. However, the people on the other side of this, or some of them, at least, are also counted among my friends. We have enjoyed some good times, and some of us have had some very serious discussions. Some of you have helped pull me back from the brink. For those who have PMed me about *this* group of my friends, you also can forget it. I'm not going to side with you, either, and I will not abandon these people as my friends.

I know that there are two sides to every story. I can't help the fact that I have friends on *both* sides of this issue. That, too, is just part of life. Shit happens, you know?

But, for *everyone* involved, I refuse to get involved in this by choosing sides. I'll listen to all of you, and try to offer advice, if that's what you want, but I will *not* choose sides. If that bothers one or some or all of you, I can't help that. Nor will I sit with my bowl of popcorn and watch the entertainment. This is a pretty poor example of "entertainment."

I've always expected better from all of you...

You stepped into my head and said what I was thinking...for the my FRIEND...I thank you. You and I have talked enough to know that this happens in all walks of life and it won't be the last time we see it. People just need to agree to disagree.
