When ANY part of the government has to close or partially close due to congress not doing their jobs - congress (AND their staff) should lose their paychecks for as long as the shutdown exists... With NO back pay when the money is turned back on.

You could just get better candidates elected.

I get the frustration but docking pay won’t magically fix gridlock, they’ll just posture harder and blame each other while nothing moves, better move is tie their pay to actually passing a budget on time or block their recess until it’s done, hit the incentives where it hurts instead of just venting anger, otherwise it’s the same circus every shutdown lol

If the congressional staff is sitting outside the offices of the members of congress - NOT getting paid - they will get more pissed off by the day at their stubborn boss ... that will add pressure to the congressional members to get off their ass to resolve the issue rather than dig in their heels. Most of the members of congress could probably go months with a paycheck - their staff... not so much!

Only Congress can defund Congress.
and THAT is the problem!

I agree completely. Congress is in no way affected by a partial or full government shutdown, so they don't give a damn if the people who elected them are suffering. It's ironic: they're screwing the voters who got them in their positions of power in the first place. Figures. Par for the course given the nuthouse DC is these days.
