Disaster in the Making

Several US military and defense officials, including personnel deployed to Syria, expressed dismay at how the Trump administration has handled the situation.

One US official said it is well known that some senior US military officials are livid at how the Kurds have been treated given their role in helping the US fight ISIS.
. . .
"How do we expect anyone to partner with us now?" one US defense official told CNN.

"They did everything we asked them to do," said another. "This is really not good for us."
. . .
Secretary of Defense Mark Esper claimed Friday that the US is not abandoning its Kurdish allies who are now under attack from Turkey's military offensive into Syria, even as he made clear the US will not intervene in the fight.

However, troops on the ground have described it as an abandonment and a "betrayal."

Would anyone have expected anything different from a draft dodger who knows more than the generals?

The world pleaded with us to take out ISIS, we did no thanks to our allies. We asked Europe to take their share of ISIS combatants and they turn their backs on us, fuckem all. We need to get the fuck out, let the EU deal with ISIS.

No the Kurds did. And now Trump's weakness is going to allow ISIS to reconstitute itself.

This helps Russia, Iran and Assad the most.

True. Would you like Uncle Sam to attack Turkey?

No, I wouldn't.

Trump should have been able to dissuade Turkey from attacking. He claimed he was the great negotiator. Instead, he gave them a green light.

Instead he has weakened the US by deserting the allies who fought and died to defeat ISIS and he looks incredibly weak because he couldn't even stop Turkey from invading.

He continues to disgrace the office to which he was elected, which he has done just about every single day since being elected.

Your extreme partisanship is most vividly evident. President Trump has not "sanctioned" any killings. What would you like to see President Trump do in that region? Are you really in favor of more U.S. involvement in war?

I'll put it in terms that even dullards such as yourself might understand.

  • America hired Donald Trump to run a zoo.
  • The zoo has been running quite well for years.
  • A wealthy patron, let's call him Vlad Putin, wants to see the lions and the tigers fight. Unfortunately there's a large steel wall separating the two groups of predators.
  • Trump takes Putin's money, and against all reason and common sense directs his underlings to remove the wall between the lions and tigers.
  • Given the fact that there are no longer barriers separating the predators, they engage in fierce battle: tooth, fang and claw.
  • Trump blubbers that "no one could have seen this coming".
  • You, the "permanently disabled" welfare queen, and the "passable transvestite" all nod your head solemnly in agreement with Trump.
  • Trump's bank account increases bigly

Hmmm...

Methinks disasters should be made of sterner stuff.

This is nowhere near the magnitude of any one of President Obama's
man-made disasters created by early withdrawal and leading from behind.

In the middle east you could blindly toss a dead cat in the crowd and then come up with entirely valid reasons why you wanted to hit that exact person or persons you did, and why they deserved it.

What irks me most is how the same hand could have been played so much more elegantly, even for basically same results. Well, nobody ever understands someone's else internal affairs, that's not what I'm asking for.

Just Trump chose (or happened just randomly) to go for maximum scandal, and there's no obvious gains for anyone but possibly Russians in doing that.

Are you referring to President Obama who had no military experience?

Umm, are you comparing an informed President who took the advice of his generals and strategists with a moron who has proclaimed that "he knows more than his generals" despite having no military or political experience whatsoever?

Disingenuous straw man false equivalency all in one posting. Not a bad effort.

US troops in Syria are scrambling to safely withdraw to bases in Iraq as Syria and Russia take control of most of Rojava in a face off with invading Turks. And Russian mercenaries have taken control of what yesterday was the US base in Manbij

In 24 hours, the estimated 1,000 elite US troops based in northeastern Syria to fight the Islamic State have found themselves overrun by Syrian, Turkish, and Russian military units.

It follows an abrupt series of confusing orders to conduct an immediate withdrawal, taken in the wake of US President Donald Trump's decision to pull out of the region and allow Turkey to invade.

As of Tuesday at least one small unit of US forces, estimated to consist of 50 to 100 soldiers, was trapped by advances from two sides: by the Turkish forces along the border and Russian-backed Syrian government forces, who began arriving into the formerly Kurdish controlled cities of Raqqa, Manbij, Kobani, Qamishli, and Ayn Issa.

"So not only is the most successful international counterterrorism operation in history finished, but the winners are Syria and Russia, who didn't even participate in the operation," the official said.

Which is in keeping with Trump and his policies.

The Kurds did much of of the land combat ops, we did the rest along with some ground combat.

Perhaps Chicken Hawk Zipman will gear up for the task, oh wait, his left wing is broken again.;)

That's pretty funny considering you were so scared of ISIS coming to get you that you pissed your pants and frogged all of your posts. :D

LOL, sorry Vette, I didn't realize you were still so scared of them that you are keeping up the charade.

What a fucking pussy :D

Hey you're disrespecting a Vietnam War United States Marine Veteran here!

....oh wait, this version of NotVetteman specifically claims he never served in the service, nossir, in fact he hates any and all veterans. Used to spit on them at airports, dontcha know....
