And I just fell for a scam the other day.

Here's a site that has a quick summary of the book. Note who's giving the summary and their qualifications. Also, don't use this summary to replace reading the book - get the book and read it because the insights in the book are more memorable in context. "Do not eat the children of your children" for example is more memorable than "reinvest your capital gains".

Thanks. Interesting, the last time I bought a book from them or kobo was ...10, 20 years ago? I only buy from Amazon kindle.
I know they're struggling to keep their book shops afloat, I imagine that Amazon kindle stole a good chunk of their clients too. Nevermind all the pirated movies or books.

It's available in Nook format and I believe (don't quote me on it) that Amazon has it in Kindle edition.

I still have my paperback copy from 40 years ago. I've let people borrow it and it always comes back with the sad tale of "I couldn't get in to it." Which in my mind translates to "it's too hard to change..."

It's 7 rules. 7. You can't learn 7 things that can totally alter your life for the better? All I can do is roll my eyes and take the book back.

The sad part is that no one fucking cares. After typing all of that (and it wasn't perfectly expressed anyway) not one single person here will actually DO anything to change their financial situation.

They'll either claim they don't need to because they're already well off and don't need to take financial advice from someone like me (which I wasn't giving in the first place) or they'll whine about how it's too hard because they're too poor and they don't have anything left over out of their paycheck because rich greedy old white men are stealing it from them.

Yet for those who actually get off their asses, things can change in huge ways.

For instance, I have a neighbor who got sued a few years ago and she came to ask me for advice about it. I looked the paperwork over, gave her some legal advice on how to try to handle it and made a suggestion.

Background: She works in a GAS STATION. She doesn't make a whole lot of money at that job and this is California - land of high rent and higher cost of living.

I told her that she should go 1 block down the street from her job and apply for a part-time position at the McDonald's. Yes, it's a 12 hour work day, but the extra income can help her solve her debt issues.

She did it. The Mickey D's job worked perfectly with her other job skills and the extra income totally fixed the legal problem she had in less than 4 months. After a year of moonlighting she was debt free.

It's been 5 or 6 years since then and she still works at the gas station. She also still has that part time job.

Go start a thread in the lounge on the basics of how to spot a good trade to make a profit. Not actual market trades, the science (and guesswork) behind finding "the one".
