I watched Firefly when it was first aired on Fox and thought it was an interesting show and made an effort to tape each episode. It was hard to get into though because, as I know now, Fox showed the episodes out of order and didn't show a few of them at all.

So anyway, I liked the show enough to get the DVD's and also I wanted to watch Serenity but not until I had seen every episode of Firefly and they were fresh in my mind. Boy am I glad I did that! I just finished watching everything and all I can say is, HOLY FUCKING SHIT THAT WAS GOOD!!! Memorable quotes in just about every episode and then capping it off with the movie...WOW!!!

I can't recommend these DVD's enough, it's part western, part science fiction, and even part horror, if you are a fan of any or all of these genres, then I promise you, you will be in for a real treat.

For those that are familiar with the series, I'd have to say Jayne is my favorite character but I really like all of them, maybe I like Kaylee and Simon a little less than the others. I love River, she has fewer lines but almost every single one is golden. I love Shepard Books' spirtuality and the triumvirate of Mal/Zoe/Wash. I thought the chemistry between Mal and Inora was kind of forced and wasn't too crazy about their scenes together, but, my God is Inora beautiful and I thought her character was very interesting and liked her storylines aside from the parts that had to show Mal was jealous. Simon is ok, nothing special, but in episodes that his character is heavy in the plot, like Safe and Ariel, the writing made him interesting enough that I really enjoyed them.

I never liked Buffy or Angel, so this is my first Joss Whedon series, but he is definitely a talented writer/director. I am very interested to see what he does with the upcoming Wonder Woman movie

I bought Serenity because of the buzz, then before I had watched it I was persuaded to watch the DVD's of the TV show first....

I am now a big fan.

I'm gonna have to give Firefly/Serenity another try.... I watched the first episode of Firefly with my husband, and he didn't like it, but I think without an 'influence' I would have enjoyed it more...

On the other hand, I just caught "Must Love Dogs" a sweet romantic comedy with Diane Lane and John Cusack... really enjoyed it, well-written and better than most in that genre, I think...

The writing is first rate... it may not be for everyone, but it definitely suits me. I like my characters multi-dimensional.

I've recently seen The Inside Man, which surprisingly wasn't bad even though Spike Lee was the director, and Poseidon, which was okay, but I've never seen the original.

I really enjoyed Inside Man. I've been listening to the song that was in the credits nonstop since then. And I love the video.

Av picture is from the video. Dancing on a traintop.

The first eppisode of Firefly wasn't all that good, to be honest. I loved the rest of the show though, and the movie. Great stuff.

I just watched Sneakers a little bit earlier. Great cast (Rebert Redford, Sidney Poitier, Dan Akroyd, Ben Kingsley), great script, great banter, and great pacing. I have to take off a point for the scenes where the woman is trying to get voice samples of the toy company guy, but aside from that I loved this film. Very fun and very well done.

Red Eye ...

A surprisingly good thriller. It took a bit to get started, but I found myself sucked in quite quickly once things picked up. Suspend your disbelief and it's a good paced, tension-filled action flick with a strong heroine and a creepy villian. I'd recommend this anyday over flightplan (which I just couldn't manage to suspend my disbelief and get into it).

Date Movie. Don't. For the love of god, DO NOT watch this movie. I rented it in spite of what I'd heard because Willow from Buffy (Alyson Hannigan) is in it. Very very sorry I did. Awful. Beyond awful. And I could only get through the first 20 minutes.

I recently got turned on to the show "Grounded For Life" when they started showing it on ABC Family, and I bought the first three seasons on DVD because the show is SOOOOOOOOO funny! The daughter's squeal sounds exactly like a leopard or other like member of the cat family when they make that attacking sound. You know the one that starts high pitched and then lowers into a growl. Freaky, and scary.

Recently re-watched Boondock Saints. Truly an excellent film. Action, drama, and a stellar performance by Dafoe. Good critique of vigilanteism too. Check it out.

"And there was a firefight!"

I didn't see it on dvd, it was on FX, but I will have "The Missing" with Tommy Lee Jones and Cate Blanchett, if you like westerns, this is a must see.

I watched Ghostbusters this morning. That movie never gets old. :D

Awesomw flick. Too bad the director got on everyone's back and made them hate him during filming. I would have loved to have seen a sequel of that. One of the best (mot realistic) action films of the last twenty years.

Not on DVD yet, but I'd be willing to see Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby again once it via Netflix. Yup, I paid $7 see it. It was hilarious. Everyone needs dumb comedy every now and then.

On DVD, I did pick-up a horror box set for $20-ish. I love the cheesy acting and effects in them so I don't expect much out of them. Nevertheless, Ancient Evil (10 movies) is probably the silliest shit on DVD ever.

Skeleton Key

Reasonably entertaining. Interesting unexpected twist in the end.

LOVED Skeleton Key. The acting was good and the story was unusual. It's one of those that I will watch again.

The Cave ... avoid this one. The only saving grace of watching this after dinner tonight is that I feel asleep during it.

Dog Soldiers ... a British werewolf movie that didn't seem to make much of a splash over here. It would probably be classified as a B horror movie, but I enjoyed it .

I watched Tristan and Isolde a couple of nights ago. I really enjoyed it. Dark love story set in the Dark Ages. Nice action scenes considering it was focusing more on the romance. I highly recommend it, though I usually really like Medieval-set movies.

I tried to watch Bloodrayne last night and just couldn't get into it. I thought it had a pretty good cast, but in my opinion it was just awful. I usually think Michael Madson does a nice job, but he was just way out of his element in this one. I couldn't even finish this piece of filth (no offense intended to anyone who enjoyed it :D ).

Season 3 of Babylon 5. My favourite season of my favourite TV series.

If I start taking about it, I won't stop. I loved this series.

Awesome, awesome series Rob! And I agree, season 3 was the best.

It was the characters that made it for me.

G'Kar was my favourite. The way he changed during the series was wonderful. Like Mandela, he went through Hell, came out the other side with his sins burned away rather than his soul completely corrupted.

And when I go, I hope it's with as much dignity and to as good effect as either Marcus or Nerroon. I still get teary at those scenes.

And I've still got the hots for Delenn. Such a perfect balance of wisdom, joy and steel.

OK, shutting up now. :D

It was always a toss up between G'Kar and Londo for my favourite .. they both changed/grew so much over the series and they were the perfect foils for one another.

One day I will create an alt called Zathras and wander around the different discussion boards asking "Are you the one? You look like the one, but you are not the one." and moaning that nobody listens to Zathras. :D

BTW .. the actress who played Delenn has a role as an occasional character on Lost ... recognize that voice and those eyes anywhere. :)

I know someone who knows the director. :D If you wanted your money back, I could have a word. But I enjoyed it too. Quite refreshing. He also directed a more recent movie called The Descent, which some morons compared, coincidently, to The Cave (even though it came out months before The Cave), but it's so much better it's not even funny.
