Eleven Happy Years

On this date in 1995, exactly eleven years ago to those of you who might be math impaired, I became married to an amazing woman who seems to ignore my multitude of faults and concentrates on what few virtues I have. We were both 55 years old at the time and had been widowed twice, which just goes to show that some people never learn.

Thanks for the good wishes. Actually, eleven years isn't so long. My parents were married 63 years before my father died. My older brother has been married 48 years and my younger brother has been married 30 years. I don't expect to ever catch up with any of them. Even so, I think we have quality on our side.

I will be 56 when the gosling and I marry, so I'm hoping for a goodly long spell of anniversaries.

My parents have just celebrated their 61st. My previous marriage lasted for 32 years. My sister has been married for 30 years, but is about to be divorced. My elder brother has been married - and divorced - twice, with one daughter from each marriage. One is 30, the other is 11. My younger brother is on his third marriage. He has two grown up daughters, and 2 grandchildren. I have yet to become a grandmother (thank god). I can wait.
