"Good," Kadruna replied. "The spell I use takes some time to get all the details right, though I suspect there will still be things I miss, cues that only someone growing up in a language will --- and here comes Vilandra. I think it's going to be good news all the way around."
The blonde elf maiden had emerged from the doors that lead to the council room, and made a beeline to Nick kad Kadruna.
"Totuls efak," she told her redheaded friend. "Ami trebu edarp atrim tunmesda jilak astel, arpol putemsa sarbartori."
Turning to Nick, Kadruna translated, "She says you're staying here will be no problem. But then, no one was realistically expecting it to be. We just need to send a message off to the Royal mage, and then we can have a small celebration."
I feel a pleasing sensation when Vilandra walks back in. How can you miss someone who you've just met and who hasn't been away for more than half an hour at most? So I turned to her as she entered, smiling stupidly, reaching to lean on the edge of the window, then feeling like I look stupid, i put my hands behind my back, trying to look elegant and sagely, like I've seen people pose in chinese movies. But why chinese, what do people over here know about that? Shit Nick, get it together
All that produces a pregnant silence, which I try to break, feeling uncomfortable
Kadruna turned to Valindra and, with a cheery tone in her voiced, asked her friend, "Atrub esispan?" Valindra laughed and replied, "Nufi kurel. Elpar preanerv oskast."
Kadruna turned back to Nick, a broad smile on her face. "We --- the three of us --- are going to have a picnic. It's a place that, by tradition, only Valindra and I are allowed to go. Us and a special guest," she added with a nod toward Nick. "The place has certain properties that might help understand your current situation better, though I think we will probably need to wait for a messenger from the royal mage to do that. However, it is a lovely place to spend the day eating and laughing and drinking and enjoying the company of friends. But there is one thing I do need to know before we go there. Can you swim, Nick?"
"Oh I'm always up for a picnic... Swim? Yes of course I can." I looked around seeing if we need to bring something
"Are we set to go then? Anything I need to bring?" I smiled at the two women. As we started to leave I mentioned "Thank you both for treating me as a special guest all this time, you're both being more than nice"
Kadruna laughed again before turning back to Nick, "She says it was her pleasure, and it was mine as well. We'll need to stop by her home first, to pack a few things. But first things first."
Kadruna stepped over to a table covered with writing materials. She splattered drops of in ink on one piece of paper and then leaned down and whispered to it. Instantly a fine, delicate script appeared on the paper, before the paper itself folded itself into a bird shape. The paper bird flapped its wings, hovered in place for a bit, then shot up to a high placed window and disappeared.
"Shall we then?" Kadruna asked as she turned around, gesturing toward the door in which Nick and Valindra had entered the room.
"I like your messaging system" I comment, smiling as we walk out of the tree. Tree! What a preposterous thing to imagine, I could safely say this to everyone i meet and rest assured they will never suspect I'm telling the truth. We walk out, and I, flanked by two gorgeous elves, gaze at the pristine nature [as well as stealing looks at them, of course, lets not act like I'm beyond that].
"Within a day of each other," Kadruna answered, "And both of us trained at the same time to, at the palace. We have a third sister who went us, though she studies with the royal mages."
"I didn't realize you were sisters" I say, startled. We walked in silence as I focused more on the women I accompanied.
"Well now you mention it, there's a heavy hint of family resemblance, apart from the hair color? is the third sister raven haired beauty to complete the set" I ask, joking
Kadruna said something to Valindra, which made the other elf laugh.
"We have more words for sisters in our language, and with more meanings, than you do in yours, Nick," Kadruna explained. "Valindra and I don't share the same set of biological parents, or even just one. We are sisters because we are born in the same village, and in the same time frame, and have similar talents and training. If we were biological sisters, we would be either urori, meaning we shared both parents, or tasurori, meaning we shared one parent. Since we are women born in the same village, you would call us tenai. Since we are born within a year of each other, we are zermini. And since we grew up together, receiving the same education, and the same type of training, we are olegai."
As Kadruna explained all this, the trio made their way through the village, still receiving greetings, though most of the villagers were involved in their own tasks, and so the greetings were not as involved as they were earlier that morning.
As the three reached Valindra's tree, Kadruna said, "Why don't you see if you can find some swimming trunks in your guest bedroom while Valindra and I pack the picnic? Then you can come back and let me know if you have any further questions," she added with a smile.
