Endless Curiosity

Alts are inherently sneaky and I don't like them.

Having said that, I used one ONE TIME to tell a true story that was too embarrassing to tell as myself. I did it on a dare. I've never used it since and wouldn't be able to remember the password so it's dead.

I do know a few people who used them legitimately because of stalkers and such. That's different.

While we are on the subject of alts ...

I first found Lit maaaaany years ago. I didn't interact on the forums back then, I spent all of my time on the story side. I created a username so I could vote/comment on stories. It was Vicious Tease (note the space between the words).

When I came back and joined the forums, I couldn't remember the password to that one, so VT without the space was born. Recently, a friend mentioned they'd accidentally sent a PM to that other VT. I was able to retrieve my old password and logged in. It appears several of my friends have messaged the silent me. If you've sent a message that went unanswered, it may have gone to the phantom mailbox.

this just makes me want to send some really kinky, sick PMs to the other VT ;)

OK, BIG confession time. I know some of you may hate me for this. But I did something and meant no harm. If anyone wants to comment on this, please do. I put this out there for discussion.

I once created an alt that was female.

I mentioned in my previous post that I had used Alts to explore different things. This was one of them. A few months after becoming a new member on Lit, I was very surprised to hear that the experience of most (all) women on Lit is very different from the experience of the men. One such difference is the quantity and nature of PMs received.

I was very naive about Lit and PMs at the time.

I couldn't believe some of the stories I was hearing about the PMs that women received. So I created an Alt username as a female. I was shocked that I had 3 PMs from men before I had posted anything. I had simply created a new account, as a female, and while setting various user options, I was already receiving PMs. Obviously people have ways of finding new members before they actually "do" anything.

I posted 2 or 3 times on threads in forums I never visit otherwise. Immediately I received a flood of PMs, many I considered very offensive, crude, and rude. I was sent photos. Photos was asked/demanded of me, and some even wanted me to be their sub or online slave.

I ran. The stories were true. What an eye-opening experience.

I immediately turned off PMs and then notified the Mods to close the account.

Since then I have learned a lot more about how people use Alts, often in bad ways. So I am not proud of this in my past. But I decided to be open and share this.

Inspi, I don't find anything offensive about what you wrote. Frankly, I (almost) wish more would have done that. It caused you to see another side of things and it probably had an effect on your behavior. You're a thoughtful, respectful poster and I'm happy you've been to the other side.

You didn't keep up the charade once you made the discovery. That's the big differentiator.

Ok, maybe I'm weird but I don't think alts are necessarily evil. If you are exploring something new, lurking privately, etc. ... what's the harm?

Don't create an alt to deceive others that you normally converse with.
Don't use an alt to "spy" on others or try to "catch" them doing something.
Don't hide behind an alt to humiliate someone you're too chicken shit to confront directly.
Don't be a dick.

Otherwise, alt your little hearts out.

I agree. You were satisfying a curiosity and are probably better for it. No shame in that. :)

Thank you.

I have always tried to be respectful of everyone, especially women. In RL I am surrounded by females: wife, daughter, two grand-daughters, sister, and a sister-n-law. In many ways Lit has been an eye-opening experience for me. Learning a bit more about how the other half experience Lit was a major discovery.

I agree that what you did was not an issue.
What activity I find despicable is when you pretend to be someone you're not and your intent is to deceive.

Examples: man who clearly is not a woman but wants to play as a woman is fine if he states upfront "I am a man. I want to pretend I'm a woman today."

If, however, you say you are a woman and use that persona to worm your way into another's trust, and maintain the lie.... Then you're a lying, piece of shit scum bag who can die from crotch rot and fall into the deepest trench of Hell.
*Smiley face*

I had a woman message me a few years ago asking questions about my political views. (Which, btw should have been my first clue that this was not a real woman. We wimmen folk honestly don't start conversations with each other asking about our left or right Leaning tendencies...)

But, anywho....
We chatted back and forth for a bit when she finally confessed that she was a he and wanted to know if I'd be interested in exploring a D/s relationship...

*Blink*

Um, no, you little fucker.

Why would I consider "exploring" anything with you when you felt it necessary to lie about who you are to get my attention?

I just find that stupid.
Incredibly stupid.

If you have such a life outside of Lit that you absolutely would be "destroyed" in your real life because you were found out, then either
A) you are hanging out with the wrong people in real life
Or
B) you are such a deviant that perhaps you do need therapy and should consider professional help in an office with real doctors instead of trying to reconcile your shit with strangers online.

I'm sorry for the snark today, btw. I keep thinking I'll work myself out of this horrible mood I'm in, but it won't go away. :(

I'll follow my own post with stating, in case no one could tell, growing up we talked about things. We argued, we fought, we got it out, and we got over it.

You either accept yourself for who you are or you will spend your entire life trying to hide it.

I do not recommend hiding.

If you feel shame about something, figure out why and determine if it's misplaced anxiety or a valid concern. Then deal with it.

I know that I'm a strong D in every aspect of my life other than sexual, and that presents problems for most men I interact with. But, I don't hide that fact. I have found very few men I'd be willing or able to submit to.

Thank my father and Grandmother who raised me to be independent.

I have actually cried because I can not let down my barriers to very many. In doing so, I am invariably let down.

This is the main reason I am not a fan of alts.
I hate the way people can hide behind a persona because they cannot handle the problem on their own.

Now, there are valid reasons for having an alt and I respect those and can handle those.
In my mind however, if you willingly deceive others because you can't take a little heat, you're a coward plain and simple.
The internet itself is a place for alts because we can be whomever we want to. Unless you know the person, you have no clue who they are in real life. It's very easy to be a meaner person online. Alts just make it worse when used for that purpose.

Though I know if offers no consolation, you are not alone in this. I am in complete control in all aspects of my life. While I prefer not to control the sexual aspects, submission is difficult. I always end up disappointed.

Being a girl on lit can be scary. Heck, being a girl in real life can be scary. I'm sure I'm not alone here when I sat I've been harassed online, bordering on assault, and the same goes for real life. I respect that there are guys out there who can't wrap their head around the need/desire for an alt, and I envy them. Boy it'd be nice to be left alone, to not have guys assume they're entitled to you because of your appearance. We have to filter everything we do to ensure our safety and sometimes it just gets to be too much.

I've never had an alt. I've been incredibly protective of my identity, however lit still managed to find my real life. I've had girlfriends whose marriages were destroyed by filthy humans who couldn't let things be. It's a nasty place, so yeah, some people use alts.

I'm pretty attached to my username and for that reason alone, I'm sticking with it. At this point in my life, there's nothing to ruin. I'm the same person here (well, besides the weird porn I post on Chainey-boy's thread) as I am in real life. Once upon a time lit was my escape from reality, a safe place to explore anonymously. As time goes on, those boundaries blur and there are enough of you out there that know me fairly well. Well enough to recognize me if we crossed paths. That's cool, but there's also the unhinged Twatwaffles who are dangerously involved (all one sided) here and we have to be mindful of that.

I don't blame anyone for wanting an alt. I encourage the guys to try inspirious' experiment. Live as a woman for a couple of hours. It can fucking suck at times (although I'm not giving up my boobies).

this; sadly, too many create alts for the expressed purpose of breaking all these rules/ suggestions. And then they act like the victim when they are found out, like there was nothing malicious behind the charade :(

I absolutely have an Alt.

I use it for the sole purpose of having cheap and meaningless online sex that I don't want to maintain as a relationship, which I state up front. Log on, troll for quick sex, done.

I have never used it for any other purpose. I agree with everyone who says that using an Alt to be a bitch/cunt/asshole/dick (does that cover all the bases? :p) without suffering the consequences is both cowardly and despicable.

At the same time, I don't want anyone post stalking me and being obvious about the fact that we may have talked privately. I am a private person, and an Alt definitely helps me maintain my comfort zone of anonymity. Any time I felt the person was worthy of a longer relationship, I fessed up immediately.

Sounds very appropriate.

And I agree that alts can be used for terrible reasons, which is not good at all.

Bottom line - It appears they can be used for good reasons, and misused for bad reasons. So Alt responsibly. :)
