As to initial attraction, it could be any number of things. For sure, a gorgeous smile and dimples and a mellow voice will draw me in.

As for keeping my interest, nearly every post I've read mentions something I think is important. I prefer someone intelligent, more so than me at least in some areas, but not one who uses that fact to try and make me feel dumb (tends to happen with men who feel inferior). The ability to take being teased and give back as good as he gets; kindness; honesty; and the controlled, level temperament EN mentioned, to offset my volatility. And cake. Cake will keep me around.

The mechanics of attraction. Most of us know what draws us to a person, personality, looks, great smile. But once there, what keeps your motor running. Their scent, the sound of their laugh, the twinkle in their eye? What does it for you?

The things that attract me are intelligence, wit, confidence, and kindness. Mix in some good old fashioned chemistry. That thing that you can't put your finger on, but it's just there. And when it is, it's sooo good.

Once there, what keeps me engaged is a combination of things. A mix of things in common, and different experiences. Learning about each other. Delighting in the things that we have in common, and even more so in the things we never would have suspected about each other. From the mundane to the obscure. Building layers that enrichen the relationship, and creates a complexity that only the two of us will understand. Our special, secret language.

Ease of conversation. Finding yourself deep in a conversation that started three hours ago, but it seems like it started fifteen minutes ago. And realizing that you could go another three hours. Make me feel valued, safe, and desired.

So much is tied up in the intangibles. When you click, you just click. It just is.

For my husband, we are both at the point of not wanting to be alone. Now, Sir is a different story. I was intrigued by His mind. When we finally met it was & still is everything about Him. A dark sense of humor, oh so skillful hands. His scent & taste. He is sadistic, which I love. While at the same time being a true gentleman. He listens, no matter what the problem is & gives great advice. He knows when to push & when not to.
