Erotica versus Sex Fiction

Cathartic for us maybe, but not so much for the readers? Or maybe it's a common good in the end?

I've published stories here about sexual abuse, miscarriage, the death of a loved one, and other hard topics. Last time I checked, my average story score was 4.78, and I have received hundreds of comments and messages from readers expressing their gratitude to see their own experiences reflected in my stories.

So, yes, there are readers who appreciate such stories very much.

It can be for both. My most heartwrenching stories are the ones that get both the most engagement and the most feedback saying, "Hey, thank you for writing this I see my experience in it, and it's good to know someone else understands."

The story continues. I'm 10 ch in to The Light Between The Trees and just hit a rejection for snuff. I've made it clear in the tagging and in the build up that this is a fantasy, so it's weird that ch 10 is where the hard stop appears. The recommendation is to find myself a volunteer editor. Uh, anyone have any advice on this? I don't want to have to walk away from a story that's going gangbusters because of a misunderstanding....

Doesn't matter that it's fantasy, and disclaimers are irrelevant - what matters is what you wrote.

You could try for an editor over in the Editors' Forum, but meanwhile, I'd suggest you scrub through what you've written, and very clearly separate the death from the sex, if that's what you've joined together.

Will try that and resubmit. There is zero death in it, so will try and work out where the rejection was triggered from. TBH it's pretty unexpected given the content in the chapter.

Several times on here it seems people have reported getting a rejection, and then it was reversed after a PM to Laurel or a re-submission with notes explaining things or asking for her to point out where the problem was. May not even need to change the text at all.
