The year was 2277, two hundred years after a nuclear apocalypse brought an abrupt end to the world as we knew it. Very few survived and those that did survive lived in vaults, a survival shelter designed to protect up to 1,000 humans from the nuclear fallout. That's where Matt was born 21 years ago in Vault 65. Matt grown to be 6 foot tall he had brown hair blue eyes and an athletic body from constantly working out. One guy eventually decided to leave and go see what life is like outside the vault. Then another left and another, soon it seemed everyone was leaving due to diminishing supplies. When he and his parents left to go find a better salvation they were attacked by raiders and his parents were killed and he was taken as a slave.

Matt was lucky enough to escape when one of the raiders let their guard down he pulled the knife from the raiders belt and killed him with it quickly downing the other one before taking off. He had now been roaming the post apocalyptic wastelands for a year and a half now. Building the skills necessary to survive out here. He moved from town to town avoiding an trouble if possible. At the town he was in now he was hearing rumors of a nearby vault that still had survivors in there. He decided maybe it was time to finally settle down and put and end to this roaming so he set out and headed for the vault.

Meet Alice

She had came to them by chance. Covered in blood, a gun loosely held in her hands... she had come to the vault. No one asked questions, no one even said a word. There was no need. They all assumed she had survived something horrible. Well, there was no need to to tell them otherwise. Ever since, Alice had stayed in the vault, being their... protector of sorts. She went out to savage for food and items they needed. She ensured everyone stayed... relativity safe.

Yes, she told them to call her Alice. No last name. And at this moment in time, she was wandering around, wanting to get away from the people that dwelled in that Vault. There were times when she regretted going there, but there were times when she was happy to have a place to wake up too and knowing food was around. She didn't mind having to watch over the people. They were nice enough, rarely caused her problems. And those that did... never did so again. They did not die, they just avoided her. She could be real scary when needed.

Pausing in her exercise, she stretched her arms out. To her arms, knives were strapped, easy to whip out and easy enough to strap back in. Guns were strapped across her back as her amber eyes coolly surveyed the scenery. She was equipped to take down a mass of people, if so needed. And to tell the truth, she would not be surprised if she had too.

Out of the corner of her eye, she noticed some movement. Her hand moved to the gun on her hip, her eyes focusing on the figure. Who was it? She didn't know. Survivors, not in vaults, were far and few between. Mostly, there was slaves and slavers. Alice had dealt many in her time of roaming. She missed that.

As Matt reached the vault door he drew the shotgun off his back. His shotgun was ideal for combat in close quarters and the vaults were definitely close quarters. He was also ready to drop his shotgun and pull his pistols from their holsters if needed. Trying to keep hidden most of the way he spotted a girl near the entrance and paused. As he continued making his approach he notice the girl became more aware and he knew she saw him. So he coninued walking towards her keeping the shotgun pointed at the ground to let her know he wasn't hostile. He could point the gun in shoot in under a second and was ready to draw if she showed any threat to him.

Alice watched him with cool eyes, not at all worried about the shotgun. She could easily take him on. Her instincts and reflexives were still as sharp as ever. Instead of aiming one of her many guns, she only turned her head toward him. "You in need of a Vault?" she asked, her voice cold but soft. The girl didn't care how she appeared to the man, her outfit forming around her body. She didn't wear it to entice anyone, that much was clear, but rather, it was easier to move in. Taking the gun out of it's holder, not a holster, she let it dang loosely in her hand. The only reason she too it out was because he already had his shot gun out.

Taking a step toward him, she pointed. "It's that way. Better watch yourself though," she spoke easily. "The people there can be suffocating."

She didn't say anything more, as she looked away from him. Alice scanned the horizon, wondering if he was really alone or had others with him. She didn't want to deal with more people. It was hard enough with those in the Vault.

Matt stopped right by Alice while looking at her. The form fitting outfit she had on was quite sexy he thought to himself as he listened to what she said. "Well I was looking for the vault in search of a place to stay. Is it even worth my time to stay here?" He asked still not moving towards the vault door.

Alice could only shrug as she looked at her small gun. "Depends what you want," she replied, as she looked around their surroundings. "It always depends on what you want. I came here by chance. Many of them sought shelter. Some want a secure place, others just need it to get back on their feet. She never said what she wanted from here though. "Look, if you want a place to stay, you could do so anywhere. But I'm guess there's that human interaction missing."

She watched him once more, stretching her arms out before putting the gun away. "Anyway, it's up to you and not my problem. You're your own." She then returned to guarding and looking out for dangers. Alice didn't look back at him, but after a moment, raised an eyebrow. "Something I can help you with?

He stood there thinking about everything Alice just said. "You said you came here by chance. Why are you still here?" Seeing her put her gun away made him feel safe enough to put the shotgun back onto the strap on his back.

Why was she still here?

Alice shrugged again, not really giving an answer. "I came here by chance and they never asked questions," she said. "I don't..." She couldn't really remember why she went to the Vault. Maybe she had been seeking shelter. But the blood at the time... it wasn't hers. Well, half of it wasn't. She now stayed to give the people some sort of decent protection. Most of them could barely handle a gun. "They don't ask questions- they let me be. Food is gonna be served soon, I suggest you take my place."

Alice rarely ate with anyway. They just mostly set aside some food, which she ate alone and in peace. The girl wasn't that good at making small talk. It was... strange, having been on her own, most of the time. She looked straight into the stranger's eyes. "Anything else you want to know?"

"Alright" Was all he said as Alice finished talking. She seemed to be the loner type just like he was. He stood there for a little longer before speaking again. "Well if you need any help around here I can handle a gun pretty well" He headed towards the vault door stopping right in front of it before turning around. "Why not introduce me to the people here. I'm not much of a people person."

"Why not introduce me to the people here. I'm not much of a people person."

She raised an eyebrow, as if it was an answer enough. "What makes you think that I know them?" she took a deep breath and let out a sigh. "Might as well, there's nothing out here anyway." The vault door opened and Alice walked through it, not waiting to see if Matt was following. As she entered, some of the people inched away from her. The older ones at leas.t The younger looked ready to tell the girl everything they did and more.

"Those are the brats," she pointed at the group of children. "Those are the adults." She motioned to most of the people. "And those are the annoying pricks." She pointed to the teenagers. "And that's everyone, unless you want to meet them on a more personal level. Not fond of their names though. Expect Clair. But she's out right now."

He tried holding back a smile as she introduced him to the "brats, adults, and pricks" he walked up to Alice's side thinking that Clairee must be the only person she liked in the vault. "Well nice to meet you, I'm going to be staying here for a little" As he talked he could see the look of disappointment on their face as they were already low on supplies and food. He then looked over to Alice to see if there was anything else she needed to show him or if she was going to let him find his own way around.

She saw the disappointed looks. "Well, why ya'll go out there and look, eh?" she snapped before pointing toward some of the pricks. "You. Show him where's he's gonna sleep." No one appeared to want to go against Alice. It was most likely out of fear or admiration. She turned to Matt. "You'll be earning your keep. As you seem good with guns, you'll be helping me around then. Right? Or we could always just kick you out of here..." She let the sentence trail as she turned on her heel, not wanting to be around so many people.

"If you need to ask any questions, I'll be outside," she replied, letting him fend for himself. Alice was waiting for Clair to return. The two females go along and were similar in nature. And ever since they met, they shared everything. Alice closed her eyes she went out, leaning against the wall of the vault, her eyes continuing to scan for danger. The Matt kid seemed a smart one- he could find his own way.

Matt nodded and followed the one guy who showed him to a room that had a bed and that was about it. He didn't mind as it had been a while since he last slept on a bed. Setting down most of his supplies but keeping his weapons on him. The "prick" showed him to the cafeteria area where they were serving food. They seemed to give him less then everyone else but he didn't make a fuss about it. He ate his food and then walked around a little before heading back outside.

"They are serving food if you wanna go in and eat I'll stand watch" He said softly while walking over to Alice. There didn't seem like there was much to do around here so he was going to be spending a lot of time standing guard as well. There were many ruthless killers and raiders out there and he would do anything to protect where he called home.

Alice knew that they were eating. It was why she was outside. She didn't like the small talk- or rather, the stares and the whispers. "They are serving food if you wanna go in and eat I'll stand watch" He said softly while walking over. She looked over at him.

"I never eat with them," she replied. "They just save me some food and I eat when they've fallen asleep."

She stretched out her arms and looked up. "Before I came, it used to be busy here. There was killers and the people needed help in defending. If I go, they may come back. But if I stay, I'll die of absolute boredum." She searched for Clair once more, looking for the dark red hair. "So tell me, why are you here?"

"Well I am here because just like everyone else out here I am searching for a place to settle down. I place I can call home." He said as he stood there thinking about what Alice said before he talked. She was right he was only here for like an hour and he was already bored. "Well I'll be here to keep ya company. I'm not like those people inside so hopefully we get along." He said as he crossed his arms and leaned back against rock wall behind him. "So tell me about this Clair girl you are waiting for"

"Home..." Alice trailed off. She never had a home. Well, not one she'd consider, anyway. She listened to him. "People are people. No one is like the other. But I suppose, we're the kind that can't stand others. Most others."

"So tell me about this Clair girl you are waiting for."

Alice opened her mouth, then closed it. Clair was... Clair. "Clair is... Clair," she stated, a fond look in her eyes. "She is... she is a killer. And her hair is the color of dried blood. But her eyes are just like warm chocolate. She and I are more alike than anything else."

Clair had left over two weeks ago. There had been no word, no nothing. Alice remember thinking that she would not see her for a long time. She had... felt saddened. Looking at Matt, she raised her eyebrow. "And why do you want to know? She won't like you. Not her type."

Actually, Alice had no idea what the girl's type was. At least, they had never come across it...

"No that's not why I was asking. She was the only person you called by her actual name so I assumed you two were friends or something" He pulled out his pistol and started taking it apart and starting to clean it, what he normally did when he was bored. "So you mentioned she isn't here so where is she?" This was the first time he actually talked to anyone like this in a long time.

Alice blinked. "I just like the name Clair," she responded and took out a knife to play with it. "I don't care for those Brats, Adults and Pricks. They're boring. It was just a concidence Clair was there. And..."She wasn't going to go into the dynamics of their relationship. It tended to be somewhat confusing. Sometimes they appeared to be lovers, other times, they appeared to want to rip each other's guts out. Not exactly a love-hate relationship. But it was more alike.

"So you mentioned she isn't here. So where is she?"

Alice shrugged. "I dunno," she replied. "Clair didn't tell me." She looked a little depressed, as if she didn't like to be away from the woman's side. Which was true. "She's a grown ass woman- can do whatever the hell she likes." She almost snarled, not liking she wasn't told. Still, Alice knew she had to be patient. Taking the knife she started to throw it in the air- only to catch it. She let out a troubled sigh before looking at him.

A thought started in her head but she shook it off. No way. Besides, she had no idea who he was. Nope, nope nope. Not gonna even think 'bout that.

"Oh I see" Matt said before pasuing standing there thinking while cleaning his gun. It seemed like Clair and Alice were really close and from the sighs she was letting out she missed her. "Well I mean why not go look for her if it's been a while since she left" He would be more than happy to help Alice find this girl but he didn't wanna just blurt out that he would.

"Well I mean why not go look for her if it's been a while since she left?"

Alice gave him another blank look. "Don't you think I've already thought of that? I have NO bloody idea in which direction she went," she let out a sigh. "I... have an idea, but I don't want to be nosy." She looked back up at the sky. "Though, it would be a good excuse to leave this damn place." Alice ran her hand through her hair. "Maybe I'll leave tomorrow. Wanna come? Or... wait, you came to settle down, didn't you?"

She paused for for a moment. "Just in time, I suppose. You can take care of my brainless duties. Which is basically stand out here and keep watch... but that's all up to you."

"Being nosy is the only way to get any information these days." He paused trying to hold back a smile hearing her invite him along. He did want to settle down but he was one that could not refuse an adventure. "Sure I'll come along. I got an idea on how these people can protect themselves while we are gone." He did in fact have a couple things in his back pack the people of the vault could use while they were gone.
