They would be traveling with some old family friends that Lily hadn't seen in years. Like she'd be able to get comfortable with them in one night, Lily thought, but she didn't voice this opinion aloud. Her parents were going to pay for her college, and lately their favorite pastime was to threaten her with the possibility of that being taken away whenever she acted sassy towards them. Thus, that threat had led to her going on this god awful road trip with them.

She currently sat at the table of these strangers' house, getting strange grey potatoes shoved on her plate. She hoped her mom would be the one cooking on this trip. She was just about to take a hesitant bite when a door nearby slammed shut and the snot nosed kid she'd remembered rushed in the door.

"You guys I am so sorry. My team is getting ready for playoffs and coach held us a little late."

"I am?" Lily asked in disbelief. This was the first she'd heard of staying over. Were both their parents nuts?

"Yes, dear. We thought it would be a good idea, seeing as you'll be sleeping away from home for the next couple months!" her mom said cheerily.

They'd went nuts. Hadn't her mother already gone through menopause? And where was her father's voice of reason in all this? Were they both going through their mid life crisis at the same time?

"Yeah, I guess," Lily answered Ben as he grabbed my bag off the floor. She thought they were just loading up stuff in the camper today, not actually using it.

The two teens headed down to the basement, and once their parents were out of earshot, she said, "We're leaving next week, right? Kinda silly we're doing this. I think they're getting super over prepared. I hope your basement is furnished. I mean, sleeping in a camper is one thing, but I'd rather not sleep on the floor," she told him as they descended. "Yeah I think that they had planned on leaving tomorrow but then my team qualified for state finals. Its in two days so after that I think we are leaving.
