Fave love story?

'Carol', by Patricia Highsmith.

Highsmith's book simply makes me feel very very sad, but at the same time I HAVE to read it. There is a need in me every single time, to make sure I have missed nothing, not one single word that she wrote. Its a compulsive book. Painful and heartrending.
Mat., I wish I'd known this, we could have talked about it. I love Highsmith, and Carol. Did you read the most recent bio. of PH? Very interesting woman. P.

Odd, Obscure and ...

I like the love story in 'Pioneer, Go Home' by Richard Powell made into an Elvis film 'Follow That Dream'. Hillbilly outwits City Hall but takes time to realise that the twins babysister is a woman, not a girl.

Nevil Shute 'Ruined City'. Banker saves a shipyard in the depression years knowing he will go to jail for false accounting. He thinks it is worthwhile to save the jobs of many people. On release the girl is still waiting for him and the town has made him a hero.

And: Shakespeare's Beatrice and Benedict. I enjoy the badinage between those two.
