Favorite movie with a gay/bi theme?

I really enjoyed:
But I'm A Cheerleader,
Frida,
If These Walls Could Talk II (HBO Film),
Cabaret, and
Ma Vie En Rose

ma vie en rose was brilliant!

Oh, but back to favorites:
Aimée + Jaguar [I already mentioned this]
And the Band Played On [ditto]
Boys Don't Cry
Chutney Popcorn
Fire
High Art
Paragraph 175
Salmonberries

Metrosexuality

Has anybody else seen "Metrosexuality"? Hilarious funny British farce set in trendy London. Production from the same people that brought the original British "Queer As Folk" series. The colors and retro stylings in this flick will have your head spinning! Highly recommend this one although it might be difficult to find this one at your local Blockbuster, or you might depending on where you live.

Yeah, 'Worst' list sounds good to change the pace.

High Art
A Home at the End of the World - currently my favorite
Bound
Ma Vie En Rose
Soldier's Girl
Hedwig

Metrosexuality was cute/somewhat entertaining - can get via netflix.

How about the WORST?

I nominate Bar Girls!

HERE, HERE!!! Ugh, what a terribly done flix. OMG it was the first of the genre I was introduced to and for years I have been trying to forget it exists...
I was very nearly there and Showtime had to blow it back in October or so and played it over and over...

I have to add "Claire of the Moon."
The plotline is so tedious and slow.

I would have been surprised not to have seen Bound here already. That film is so damn sexy. How lush are Gina Gershon's lips?

A very good lesbian themed film no one has mentioned is John Sayle's Lianna.

Just thought of one...
Monster.

I cried the night I saw that, just because I was a man.

"Holden: The man-hating dyke.
Banky Edwards: Good. Why?
Holden: I don't know.
Banky Edwards: BECAUSE THE OTHER THREE ARE FIGMEENTS OF YOUR FUCKING IMAGINATION! "

Yep, there's nothing like ugly sterotypes to make me want to run out and buy a movie.

If These Walls Could Talk II (HBO Film)

Wow, I loved this movie. The short film about the elderly lesbians and what happens to the one when the other dies was so horribly sad. It crushed me.

It's out of context, obviously. Banky is really just dealing with his own issues of his attraction towards Holden there, and the potential loss of their special relationship due to Holden's meeting Alyssa, a bisexual girl who kinda forget she was bisexual and not a lesbian until he came along.

My favorite gay/bi movie:
Fire . It's made in India, and might possibly be banned over there right now (not sure). It created a lot of controversy because it was about a woman whose husband wouldn't have sex with her due to his fixation on religious strength and purity, and a younger woman who had just had an arranged marriage with someone who slept around all the time. The two women end up getting together in the end.

I would encourage people to see this movie, but I'll warn you that it is extremely intense. It is not for the faint-of-heart. In addition to showing a lesbian relationship it addresses issues of classism and sexism in India in brutally honest, gritty sort of a way.

They quite clearly differentiate from all lesbians by saying manhating dyke. ;)

I don't think I've ever met a "manhating" dyke. I mean there are those who don't really associate with men and have a real averssion to men. There are even those who are only gay because they were hurt by a man...

but I personally don't know any who actually hate men.

But then again, this could just be my naivite.

Owera,
Fire was a kick ass movie.

It was. When Irented it I had no idea what it was. I had picked it up just because it was in the foreign films section and the cover looked interesting :D When I saw it I felt a very wide range of emotions (including utter disgust--the part where the servant jacks off in front of the grandmother). And when the ending came around I was absolutely enraged (regarding the fire). Definitely one of those "strong emotions" movies :D

I definitely know of lesbians who hate men. I would say "have a real aversion to" counts as hate, for example. If someone can't stand to be around a certain type of person, badmouths them every chance they get, then I would say that counts as hate.

Like Owera I loved Fire. I´ll look at that link about the controversy.

One movie I really like right now is the japanese Ichi the killer. It is perversly amusing/ sickening violent, but still... Kakewara is just hot. In his sick sadomasochistic way.

Not to seem sick and perverted myself I have to add that the movie Orlando is my al time favorite. I wish Tilda Swinton was a man. Perhaps it ´s not a really gay theme movie , but it explores alot of issues on male and female.

By the way - are there any movies where gay people end up happy and not beaten down or dead? Except Birdcage?

Um, ok, fav gay themed films are probably Gia, and um, lord of the things, those hobbits were gay right? And tv program...well, The Investigator, a small brit tv drama that had Helen Baxendale bedding some military bird, quality.

The hobbits? Brr. Hairy feet, hairy feet!

Went to the cinema yesterday, and now I have to mention Alexander. Perhaps not a favorite, but I´m glad that they portray him as bisexual.
