Ferguson Neverending

So, now police are saying Bland admitted to a previous suicide attempt. ok. So why did they leave her something to kill herself with, and why did they not keep a suicide watch on her?

Is suicide watch normal for every single person who gets picked up? I mean the one person I know who was put in prison was on suicide watch but without disclosing details they knew good and damn well that they weren't getting out for a long long time. Sandra would likely have been out by the end of the week even under the worst of circumstances. Unless it's just SOP I wouldn't have bothered taking away her shit or putting her on watch.

I'm not saying I buy the suicide story, especially not as it's currently being sold but this is a rare case of me being genuinely curious because so much shit doesn't add up here that it's not even funny.

Here are the projections from the US Census Bureau: https://www.census.gov/newsroom/releases/archives/population/cb12-243.html

I find this part interesting:

A More Diverse Nation

graphThe non-Hispanic white population is projected to peak in 2024, at 199.6 million, up from 197.8 million in 2012. Unlike other race or ethnic groups, however, its population is projected to slowly decrease, falling by nearly 20.6 million from 2024 to 2060.

Meanwhile, the Hispanic population would more than double, from 53.3 million in 2012 to 128.8 million in 2060. Consequently, by the end of the period, nearly one in three U.S. residents would be Hispanic, up from about one in six today.

The black population is expected to increase from 41.2 million to 61.8 million over the same period. Its share of the total population would rise slightly, from 13.1 percent in 2012 to 14.7 percent in 2060.

The Asian population is projected to more than double, from 15.9 million in 2012 to 34.4 million in 2060, with its share of nation's total population climbing from 5.1 percent to 8.2 percent in the same period.

The part I find interesting is the Asian population continuing to increase. I wonder if that is primarily births or if that includes immigration. The rest basically holds true to my/Ishmael's theory that the more your life sucks the more kids you have theory. There are of course other factors in play but assuming all else is equal that seems to be fairly constant.

You can literally smell that he was waiting all year long to play this losing card he had stuffed deep in his sweaty back pocket.

Can't play it again. Hope that premature water-weak nut bust was worth it.

Ex-cop and blackface performer's fundraiser for officers in Freddie Gray case canceled

Bobby Berger, 67, who was fired from the city police force in the 1980s after his off-duty performances in blackface drew the ire of the NAACP, had said he wanted to revive the act to help the families of the officers (six Baltimore police officers charged in the arrest and death of Freddie Gray .)

He said he had sold 600 tickets at $45 each to the bull roast scheduled for Nov. 1 at Michael's Eighth Avenue, where he and several singers planned to perform as guests dined.

$!

But after news of the event began spreading Wednesday, Michael's posted a statement on its website saying the event would not be held there.

"No contract was signed with Mr. Berger," the venue wrote. "Michael's does not condone blackface performances of any kind."

Scott Wagner, vice president of Michael's Eighth Avenue, said before the cancellation that Berger was a friend of his late father and has a good spirit, and that he had decided to let Berger hold the event because it was intended to benefit families.

"Mr. Berger had a plan to help these families because he's been through similar issues," he said. "That's what captured me."

Michael Davey, an attorney who works with the Baltimore Fraternal Order of Police, said the union was unaware of the event.

"We don't endorse it. We do not support it, and we will accept no funds from anything involving this event," Davey said.

The police union issued a statement Wednesday saying it has "much respect" for Berger and another retired officer organizing the event but does not condone "any performance representing the iconic racist figure that is Al Jolson" or any fundraising for the officers that does not come directly through the union.

Al Jolson opened a lot of doors for black entertainers and was well respected by the black community in general. He was not a "racist figure".

8 June 2010, Sergeant Byron Fausset of the Hempstead police department responded to a 911 trespassing call at the Willowchase Apartments a couple of miles from Prairie View, where Bland was stopped on 10 July for failing to signal a lane change.

Fausset came across Terrelle Houston, an unarmed 22-year-old black man, who tried to run away from him. According to court records, the officer shocked Houston with a Taser, gained control of him and put him in handcuffs. Then, the complaint alleged, the officer “continued to repeatedly shock Houston until he became unresponsive. Throughout the incident, Houston was lying face down, restrained, in a pool of water; he was also unarmed.”

A couple of hours later, Houston was dead. His aunt, Darrelle Neal, said Houston was in great pain and struggling to breathe after the Taser shocks. He died in hospital. Neal filed a civil rights lawsuit against the city of Hempstead, Waller’s county seat, in 2012. Fausset was cleared of any wrongdoing after a trial in September last year.

Eighteen months after Houston’s death, Fausset got a new job: he moved from Hempstead police to the Waller County sheriff’s office to become a deputy. He lists “Taser instructor” on his online résumé.

The man who hired him, Smith, made the same switch two years earlier. He was fired as Hempstead’s police chief by the city council in 2008 after accusations of racist behaviour, but elected later that year as Waller county’s sheriff.

Got some feedback and here's what I can say: the THC levels (both active and not) are relatively high.

One forensic toxicologist said it seems she would have had to consume the marijuana a few (maybe five) hours before being found dead.

Leah Binkovitz ‏@leahbink 1h1 hour ago
The ADA left open that possibility last week when he said it's possible to smuggle substances into jail.

But jail said it conducted search of her cell and didn't find evidence of this, according to ADA.

As to relevance of marijuana in this case, ADA said last week as a "mood amplifier," it was relevant to determining mindset.

After a routine traffic stop by a University of Cincinnati Police Officer, Sam Dubose ended up dead with his face blown off. The officer was wearing a body camera, but the city refuses to release the video. In the meantime, everybody who sees it is deeply disturbed, including the city wide police chief.

Cincinnati Police Chief Jeffrey Blackwell said he’s seen the unreleased footage from a University of Cincinnati officer’s body camera during last week’s fatal shooting and “it’s not good.”

“The video is not good,” Blackwell said. “I think the city manager has said that also publicly. I’ll leave it there.”

City Manager Harry Black also spoke about the unreleased body camera video of the shooting.

“It’s not a good situation,” Black said. “It’s a tragic situation, someone has died that did not necessarily need to die.”

UPDATE (7/29) - The body camera footage in the #SamDubose case will be released Thursday (7/30) at noon (ET).

Another extremely disturbing video. Another officer acting like a victim, yet still alive.

Al Jolson opened a lot of doors for black entertainers and was well respected by the black community in general. He was not a "racist figure".

For one thing, he was Jewish; for another, he sang songs that are frequently considered to be black, and did them extremely well. But I think the most important thing was that his makeup did not make him out to be a clown, like Amos and Andy and minstrel shows in the Thirties.

Or those idiots in red face at Washington and Kansas City NFL games, and at Cleveland baseball games. That's racism at its core!

I'm not trying to defend the cops. I think we have a lot of problems that ultimate4ly only have a single solution. Either the FBI or a new group that is not drawn from law enforcement needs to have oversight. Every shooting by a police officer should be investigated by someone who doesn't have any vested interest one way or the other. Which sadly means we can't treat them like we do DAs or even judges where they get points for putting people away. The goal isn't to put cops away it's to minimize corruption.

Also being a live is a poor standard to hold someone too when they claim victimhood. These things are happening so rapidly now that cop shoots someone at this point just mean's it's tTuesday. If this is about the guy who was shot in his car I've seen three videos and other than suddenly panicking for little reason I can't see how the cop felt like he was in any real danger. If nothing else he wasn't infront of the car and unless that thing can literally turn on a dime he was safe. Not saying I might not freak out in said same position though.
