What is a homeburger?

A good quality hamburger not frozen. The one at the Oxford Grill and Truckstop is not very regular shaped. Made in house is best I can come up with. Best burger I have ever had. We would ride our motorcycles there on Friday nights just for that burger. It's called a home burger I associate the name with scratch made good burgers.

Located on Hwy #2 just east of the 401.

So many good things to try! Biscuits with sausage gravy, fried green tomatoes. The church ladies here make fantastic broccoli bacon salad. It also wouldn't be summer unless you had fresh sweet corn on the cob on the grill with butter. Enjoy experimenting!

Broccoli bacon salad?????

Please tell me more.

America is the food basket of the world. A lot of it is international cuisine but the local/regional comfort foods are really where it's at. Check out your local church scene for their weekday dinner get together. Often spaghetti or fish, but not always, sometimes it's pot luck (which is GREAT!). It's fairly cheap, you get out of the house to socialize, and you get to try different things on the menu. Plus you help the less fortunate.

If you aren't into that (for whatever reason) try an all you can eat buffet diner. There is so much to choose from you will not know where to start. Usually the menu in these places changes all the time so the new choices are almost unlimited.

And then there's Southern comfort food. You can almost taste heaven in Louisiana/cajun cooking. Boudin balls, jambalaya, red beans and rice, fried grits, biscuits and gravy.

Crap, I think I gained 10 pounds just typing all of that.

So, like a hamburger you make at home.

Sure! Because i haven't learned to link yet, Google bacon broccoli salad. Basically it's broccoli, bacon, onions and cheese mixed with a dressing of mayo, sugar, lemon and vinegar. Sometimes raisins are added, some omit the cheese. It doesn't seem like the ingredients would taste good together but they do. The longer it sits in the fridge the better it gets, but almost never lasts long enough to.

Bbq is what the US does better than anybody else in the world, it's the blues, r&b, rock'n'roll of food.

Different areas have different styles, but whether it's Texas beef ribs you have to use your teeth to pull meat off the bone or Carolina pulled pork with a yellow mustard sauce, BBQ is the one food the US of A does right.

Sounds like a Brussels sprout recipe just with broccoli instead.

cobbler.
proper margaritas.
chopped brisket sammich with a side of potato salad.
mac and cheese.
iced tea.
biscuits and sausage gravy

for me, with grits it's mostly about the texture: like semolina and tapioca, too 'bitty' on my tongue. makes my stomach curl.

biscuits and gravy, yeah, they're nice. i've had a lot of nice food here, and H's ma'am bakes lots, but those first 4 i've mentioned were super nice (for my tastebuds at least).

you can be sure i'll try just about everything :D the patty pans are looking great, the new potatoes are gorgeous, the broccoli to die for, the bok choi super crisp, and there's a big pan been cooked up of turnip greens, bok choi and borage. not sure what i'll make of them yet - i'd like to try them stir-fried rather than boiled but we'll see :) there are little baby cukes growing and pretty carrot fronds decorate one patch, the water melon plant is a baby yet but doubling in size almost every day, and we had our first tomato. oh! and the fresh garlic :D the ones we've let run to flower are tall and pretty, but what made me smile most was the flower heads escaping their covers - they looked like they were sporting pointy caps! so cute :D

yes, we do have a big chest freezer and one side of one of the fridges is a freezer, the top of the other is, too. they've all got a load of stuff in still from last year's crops :D okra, beans, veggies of all shapes and sizes. and fruits! there're enough pots of jam/jelly here to float a raft on, and pickled preserves to boot.

no doubt i will try the various get togethers - think there's one coming up at the volunteer fire station place down the bottom of the drive. not sure if it's the same kind of thing but if it's food, i'll try it! :)

Hominy grits.

from the Wikipedia:

It's quite mild— and easy on an upset tummy. Heated in a frying pan with lots of salted butter, it's pretty yummy.

had it here twice - first time at some chain restaurant as a part of breakfast my first morning in the USA - Atlanta - the taste was okay, not fab, but the texture put me off. the second time, in a different place, they were simply gross full stop.

It's just fresh-made polenta.
