For Those Who Might Be Wondering Why We Might Be In Ukraine

I vote to rename this thread: " Chloe Tzang's propaganda thread".

Thank you thank you. Your adulation falls on fertile ground and is appreciated. Of course, I admit to a certain obssessive interest here, but I prefer to think of it as information, news and infotainment rather than propaganda. Only the ghastly Russian war criminals and genocidal mass-murderers do propaganda,

Kremlin CIVIL WAR: FSB Purges MORE Russian Generals

The Kremlin's greatest threat is no longer from outside, but from within. Russia's own security services are now turning inward, with the FSB purging generals and exposing corruption at the highest levels. This isn't just an anti-corruption drive; it's a full-blown purge of Russia's military leadership.

The result is chaos inside the General Staff. Battlefield command is collapsing as officers are too afraid of arrest to focus on the war in Ukraine. Generals are being jailed, key industries are losing billions, and families are struggling just to survive. Russia is fighting two wars: one abroad and another inside its own capital.

From courtroom purges of senior officers to coal mines closing and steel giants suffering historic losses, the signs of internal fracture are everywhere. This conflict between the FSB and the army isn't a renewal—it's a breakdown. It's destroying Russia from within, weakening its war effort, and pushing the regime closer to collapse.

Ukraine Strikes Russia's Oil Refineries - The effects, politics & what next?

UKraine's kinetic sanctions are doing considerable damage to Russia.

Ukraine prepares to destroy Putin's economy as Russia rejects Trump's deal

How Ukraine's new FP-5 Flamingo missile could wreck Putin's war economy

Flamingo Missile Hits Crimea! Destroys SIX Khivus-class Hovercraft and Russian Barracks!

Ukraine confirms the first use of Flamingo which destroyed a Russia barracks in Crimea and six A-8 Khivus hovercraft. New satellite imagery confirms Ukraine’s strike on a Russian border outpost near Voloshyne, west of Armyansk, according to the Crimean Wind monitoring group. The barracks were completely destroyed,

There are numerous reports of the Ukrainian Air Force now using either such attachments/extensions for conventional bombs or ready-to-use guided bombs here and there along the front line. Ukraine's development of indigenous UMPK-like glide bombs enhances its air force by enabling precision standoff strikes up to 60-80 km, reducing reliance on foreign munitions, and adapting existing FAB-500 bombs for MiG-29 use. This boosts operational flexibility and cost-efficiency, though scaling production and integration challenges remain.

Give the size of the old Soviet stockpiles of existing FAB-500 bombs, basically this gives Ukraine a big advantage as their guidance systems are far more accurate than the systems the Russians are using.

Russia's Summer Offensive CRUMBLES

Russia’s much-hyped 2025 summer offensive has collapsed with staggering losses and no major territorial gains. Despite deploying massive forces in Sumy and near Pokrovsk, Moscow failed to achieve its strategic objectives or gain leverage for negotiations. Ukraine’s defenses held firm, inflicting devastating casualties and equipment losses.

The reality is that Russia's summer offensive has achieved almost nothing except huge losses.

Demilitarization of Russia continues in Crimea

Russia is begging for more money from China and India and it's only strategy is continued attacks on Ukrainian civilians

BEN HODGES: Russia’s ACHILLES’ HEEL exposed!

TV Host Daniel Tkiie and Retired US Army Lieutenant General Ben Hodges discusse the latest news surrounding the war in Ukraine. Ukraine has destroyed 20% of Russia's oil refining capacity, according to the White House, using long-range drones. However, the US administration seems to be frustrated by this.

The US reaction says Ukraine is being very effective, attacking the one thing that is keeping Russia in the war - Russia's oil and gas exports - leaving them no resources to pay for the war
The fact that the Trump Administration is frustrated by this means they know this is having a significant impact on Russia - this Administration has been willing to accept Russian talking points
The new Flamingo cruise missile means any target within Russia is in reach and Russia cannot possibly protect all these facilities - this is a significant development
Russia have not been able to do anything to change the dynamic on the ground in any way
There will be no one thing that wins the war but the Flamingo will be very helpful
Russia's summer offensive has achieved nothing and gained nothing significant - the perception that a Russian victory is inevitable is mistaken - Russia does not have unlimited manpower and Hodges gives them 2 more years before they are unable to continue
Putin has no respect for the Trump Administration and has in no way agreed with anything Trump has said regarding any agreements on Ukraine.

Quite a lot more in this interview and General Hodges certainly gives a good assessment from a very knowledgable background.

Russian Air Defenses Collapse As Ukraine Hammers Crimea

Entire regions of Russia and occupied Ukraine are now left without sufficient air defenses to protect Russia's most valuable military assets. Ukraine is taking advantage of this with deadly affect.

This video also covers Russia’s collapsing economy, gasoline shortages across the country, Putin’s visit to China as a wanted war criminal, and Russia’s latest missile strikes on residential buildings in Kyiv.

It looks like both sides are trying to create civil unrest, and civil war inside each country and make life inside either country as intolerable as possible…

It looks like it’s easier to make war, than make peace at this point.

I’m definitely pro Ukrainian in the struggle, but I don’t know how they’re going to keep on coming up with manpower and resources.

Another clip on Crimea

Ukraine has dealt a heavy blow to Russia’s grip on Crimea. In just days, key defense systems, helicopters, naval assets, and critical infrastructure were crippled, exposing cracks in Moscow’s once-formidable fortress. These precision strikes are systematically dismantling Russia’s ability to defend the peninsula and humiliating Putin’s war machine.

100%.

Russia is trying to do so thru terrorist attacks on Ukrainian civilians and on civilian infrastructure, hoping this will bring internal pressure to bear on Zelensky and undermine civilian morale

Ukraine is hitting Russian oil infrastructure as well as industrial and logistical strikes, aiming to collapse the Russian economy

Ukraine's plan seems to be moving ahead, while Russia's is failing

It looks like it’s easier to make war, than make peace at this point.

It's all relative. Peace could be achieved in a day by Russia withdrawing to the 2014 border and ceasing it's invasion. Of course Putin won't do that - he'd be dead within days.

Ukraine cannpt capitulate - t do so would be the end of Ukraine and unleash a Russian genocide and terrror campaign that would be as bad as anything Stalin did, and would also be a prelude to the invasions of the Baltic States and Moldova. It's probably better to say that peace can only be achieved thru the implosion and collapse of the Russian Federation and the defeat and destruction of the Russian military, along with the denuclearization and demilitirization of Russia. The tradeoff for that may well be handing off Siberia to China.

A ceasefire would simply give Russia the chance to rearm and rebuild before renewing the attack

I’m definitely pro Ukrainian in the struggle, but I don’t know how they’re going to keep on coming up with manpower and resources.

The resources aren't an issue with the EU backing them. The EU can out-produce and out-fund anyone, even disorganized as they are. Ukrainian industry has capacity but lacks internal funding - increasingly the EU is providing that funding and Ukrainian war industry os gearing up - this war may well end with Ukraine's defence industry being core to the EU' defences and replacing many weapons currently bought world wide from the USA. Necessity is the mother of invention.

The US's refusal to provide Patriot systems for example has sparked Ukraine to work on an analog which will likely be as effective but a lot cheaper. The Bohdana 155mm gun is cheaper than most equivalents, battle-tested and now being mass-rproduced in greater quantities than the USA or the EU can do. Look for post-war sales. Ditto all sorts of other vehicles and weapons systems. We'll likely see Ukrainian Gripens soon enough - either those or Rafaels depending on who cuts a deal first. My money's on the Swedes. The requirements are much more closely aligned.

Manpower? Ukraine is mobilizing around 25k men a month consistently, their issue is rather more with equipping them and with existing issues around allocation of personnel to units (there's apparantly an old boys network at the senior level that is causing issues here, as well as with command and control - Ukrainian sources have some pretty strong views on this and on corruption within the Ukrainian govt) - the reorg into a corps structure has been going too slowly and there ARE incompetent officers at the senior level but issues ARE being addressed, too slowly for sure, but improvements are being made.

Just the fact that they opened the borders to allow 18-22 years olds to travel outside Ukraine is indication enough there are no real manpower problems.

My personal view is that the Ukrainians are playing a maskirovka here, portrating themselves as weaker than they in fact are - as lomg as Russia thinks they are winning, and as long as Trump thinks Russia is winning, there will be no real pressure for a ceasefire and this gives Ukraine the continuing room to collapse Russia that they need. Kerson and Crimea are being setup to fall, and the stars are aligning.... there are Ukrainian Brigades that have not been seen on the front, there are more being re-eqipped and trained, the tactics are being experimented with (the repeated successful small assaults on Russian positions using a combo of specially trained assault and drone units).

Combine that with ever more poorly-equipped and trained Russian units - basically a rabble with rifles - the destruction of Russian logistics, repeated strikes on Russian command posts, taking out fuel and ammo depots for the Russian military, and when the hammer falls, it will be as crushing as what Croatia did to Serbia..... The Russian's are no longer a mobile army - they are infantry, on foot - a WW1 army with missiles, and a not very well trained and equipped WW1 army now - while the Ukrainian Army has transformed itself into a modern army fighting WW3 and with the technology and weapons to go with that. They're the best army in Europe right now, bar none.

Putin 'can't keep fighting' as Russia faces supply shortages

'Very slim chance of success' as Putin's summer offensive fails to capture key towns in Donbas

Russia's high casualty rate has yielded surprisingly little strategic success in the Donbas as Ukraine continues to hold key settlements in Eastern Ukraine, says Retired Air Vice Marshal Sean Bell on Frontline.

Honestly, I cannot fathom why Ukraine has only destroyed 20%...refineries are big, fragile, and immobile. Can be spotted on google earth. Why haven't more been hit? I realize some are too far east, but most aren't. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

How U.S. Support for Ukraine’s Neo-Nazis Imperils Diplomacy

Since the Cold War, Washington has empowered violent anti-Russian extremists.

As a negotiated settlement of the Russia–Ukraine war becomes more likely, President Volodymyr Zelensky faces a major obstacle to peace that comes not from Moscow, but from ultranationalist and neo-Nazi forces inside his own country.

In a recent interview with the Sunday Times, Serhii Sternenko—a leader of the paramilitary group Right Sector, which was founded by neo-Nazis—warned Zelensky that if he ceded any territory to Russia in a peace deal, “he would be a corpse—politically, and then for real.”

Though the Times presents him merely as a “civil activist,” Sternenko served as the head of Right Sector’s Odessa branch, where he oversaw the extremist group’s 2014 crime spree that culminated in the Odessa trade union hall massacre in which militants used Molotov cocktails to burn alive more than 40 antigovernment protestors.

The Times characterizes the Odessa trade union hall massacre as mere “clashes” and fails to attribute the violence to any one particular side, despite the fact that the Right Sector proudly claimed responsibility for it.

Whitewashing Ukraine’s ultra-nationalist right is neither new nor accidental. As the late Stephen Cohen, an eminent scholar of U.S.–Russia relations, warned nearly a decade ago, Western journalists and officials, by downplaying Ukraine’s right-wing militant groups and parroting Kiev’s official claims about them, empowered violent extremists.
