Russia intent on continuing the war with Ukraine

There are numerous reports of the Ukrainian Air Force now using either such attachments/extensions for conventional bombs or ready-to-use guided bombs here and there along the front line. Ukraine's development of indigenous UMPK-like glide bombs enhances its air force by enabling precision standoff strikes up to 60-80 km, reducing reliance on foreign munitions, and adapting existing FAB-500 bombs for MiG-29 use. This boosts operational flexibility and cost-efficiency, though scaling production and integration challenges remain.

Give the size of the old Soviet stockpiles of existing FAB-500 bombs, basically this gives Ukraine a big advantage as their guidance systems are far more accurate than the systems the Russians are using.

It's all relative. Peace could be achieved in a day by Russia withdrawing to the 2014 border and ceasing it's invasion. Of course Putin won't do that - he'd be dead within days.

Ukraine cannpt capitulate - t do so would be the end of Ukraine and unleash a Russian genocide and terrror campaign that would be as bad as anything Stalin did, and would also be a prelude to the invasions of the Baltic States and Moldova. It's probably better to say that peace can only be achieved thru the implosion and collapse of the Russian Federation and the defeat and destruction of the Russian military, along with the denuclearization and demilitirization of Russia. The tradeoff for that may well be handing off Siberia to China.

The resources aren't an issue with the EU backing them. The EU can out-produce and out-fund anyone, even disorganized as they are. Ukrainian industry has capacity but lacks internal funding - increasingly the EU is providing that funding and Ukrainian war industry os gearing up - this war may well end with Ukraine's defence industry being core to the EU' defences and replacing many weapons currently bought world wide from the USA. Necessity is the mother of invention.

The US's refusal to provide Patriot systems for example has sparked Ukraine to work on an analog which will likely be as effective but a lot cheaper. The Bohdana 155mm gun is cheaper than most equivalents, battle-tested and now being mass-rproduced in greater quantities than the USA or the EU can do. Look for post-war sales. Ditto all sorts of other vehicles and weapons systems. We'll likely see Ukrainian Gripens soon enough - either those or Rafaels depending on who cuts a deal first. My money's on the Swedes. The requirements are much more closely aligned.

Manpower? Ukraine is mobilizing around 25k men a month consistently, their issue is rather more with equipping them and with existing issues around allocation of personnel to units (there's apparantly an old boys network at the senior level that is causing issues here, as well as with command and control - Ukrainian sources have some pretty strong views on this and on corruption within the Ukrainian govt) - the reorg into a corps structure has been going too slowly and there ARE incompetent officers at the senior level but issues ARE being addressed, too slowly for sure, but improvements are being made.

Just the fact that they opened the borders to allow 18-22 years olds to travel outside Ukraine is indication enough there are no real manpower problems.

My personal view is that the Ukrainians are playing a maskirovka here, portrating themselves as weaker than they in fact are - as lomg as Russia thinks they are winning, and as long as Trump thinks Russia is winning, there will be no real pressure for a ceasefire and this gives Ukraine the continuing room to collapse Russia that they need. Kerson and Crimea are being setup to fall, and the stars are aligning.... there are Ukrainian Brigades that have not been seen on the front, there are more being re-eqipped and trained, the tactics are being experimented with (the repeated successful small assaults on Russian positions using a combo of specially trained assault and drone units).

Combine that with ever more poorly-equipped and trained Russian units - basically a rabble with rifles - the destruction of Russian logistics, repeated strikes on Russian command posts, taking out fuel and ammo depots for the Russian military, and when the hammer falls, it will be as crushing as what Croatia did to Serbia..... The Russian's are no longer a mobile army - they are infantry, on foot - a WW1 army with missiles, and a not very well trained and equipped WW1 army now - while the Ukrainian Army has transformed itself into a modern army fighting WW3 and with the technology and weapons to go with that. They're the best army in Europe right now, bar none.

Honestly, I cannot fathom why Ukraine has only destroyed 20%...refineries are big, fragile, and immobile. Can be spotted on google earth. Why haven't more been hit? I realize some are too far east, but most aren't. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

As a negotiated settlement of the Russia–Ukraine war becomes more likely, President Volodymyr Zelensky faces a major obstacle to peace that comes not from Moscow, but from ultranationalist and neo-Nazi forces inside his own country.

In a recent interview with the Sunday Times, Serhii Sternenko—a leader of the paramilitary group Right Sector, which was founded by neo-Nazis—warned Zelensky that if he ceded any territory to Russia in a peace deal, “he would be a corpse—politically, and then for real.”

Though the Times presents him merely as a “civil activist,” Sternenko served as the head of Right Sector’s Odessa branch, where he oversaw the extremist group’s 2014 crime spree that culminated in the Odessa trade union hall massacre in which militants used Molotov cocktails to burn alive more than 40 antigovernment protestors.

The Times characterizes the Odessa trade union hall massacre as mere “clashes” and fails to attribute the violence to any one particular side, despite the fact that the Right Sector proudly claimed responsibility for it.

Whitewashing Ukraine’s ultra-nationalist right is neither new nor accidental. As the late Stephen Cohen, an eminent scholar of U.S.–Russia relations, warned nearly a decade ago, Western journalists and officials, by downplaying Ukraine’s right-wing militant groups and parroting Kiev’s official claims about them, empowered violent extremists.
