To me the really nice thing is the ability to relive some childhood memories that have seriously faded near nothingness, but suddenly become very full and clear again with a simple click.

IE: Sky King was barely a memory until I discovered a bunch of the original episodes at YouTube. Suddenly it's Saturday morning and I am five years old again anytime I choose to be.

Luxury, sheer luxury. When I was five, TV only showed newsreels and cricket. Ah, well, one out of two ain't bad. :)

I notice that the Adverts are almost part of the programme.
At least our are firmly separated, although for how long is debatable.

Most of the time, with our side of the pond TV anyways, there are adverts right *IN* the shows and people just don't realize it.

If a Domino's Pizza delivery driver in full uniform shows up at Olivia Bensen's door on Law & Order, and tilts the box so you can easily read it, you can bet Domino's paid a healthy fee for that "ad." I worked for the corporate office of the Realty World franchise back in the early 80's and we paid something like $50,000 to have a giant Realty World logo on the back of a bus that goes over a cliff and gets saved by Ralph on "The Greatest American Hero."

And anyone that lived through the mid 1960's will never forget the BLATANT advertising by Ford Motor Company with their sponsorship of 'The F.B.I." television show. Even the cabs and ambulances and police cars had to be Ford products or they weren't seen on screen.

I've always wondered what it cost Pontiac to have KITT be a Firebird instead of a Mustang on 'Knight Rider.'

Yeah. I always wondered why they chose a Pontiac. A 'Stang or a 'Vette would have been much better - IMHO.

Perhaps a Ford GT40 ?
Better car, perhaps ?

Odds are neither the 'Vette nor the GT40 were ever considered simply because of the high dollar value and easy damage to the fragile bodies.

Knight Rider debuted in 1982...the 1982 Mustang wasn't exactly a car that gave you a hard-on:

And certainly not when this was sitting next to it:

An interesting side note if you ever wanted to own your very own KITT...this "stunt double" just came up for sale a couple weeks ago:

 (it's worth the $60k just for the dashboard!

Forgive me, but aren't they giant 'luxury' Fords ?

Don't remind me, HP.

When I bought a cherry '77 Mark V for a college graduation present to myself in 1982, I was so freakin' proud...twenty-six and already driving a Lincoln.

My best friend kept calling it "just a Ford with more chrome and a better stereo system than usual." I would immediately remind him that it was a Lincoln, NOT a Ford. One day I made that same statement and then confidently stated, "That is a LINCOLN logo, not a Ford one!"

He silently walked over to the driver's door, pulled it open, and proceeded to show me the first of three or four places where ID and information plates were bolted to the car, and every damn one of them the far-to-familiar oval Ford logo embossed on them.`

Sad to relate, one might find the Mercedes symbol in parts of a Rolls Royce. . .

And VW in parts of a Bentley?

Ahhh yes...the lowly yet wildly popular Volkswagen. Between the original Beetle and the '"every real hippie's gotta have one" 1960's vans and window buses, Germany almost managed to pull off total world domination without ever having to fire a shot.

I would still probably commit a serious crime to be able to own a Karmann Ghia convertible!

Sadly, Yes.
You know that Lambo you fancied ?

Oh - YES

Olaf.
I won the Lottery thing.

Olaf?

Wasn't that one of the four Anderson brothers that wrestled "professionally" as the Minnesota Wrecking Crew back in the 1960's and 70's? Gene, Lars, Arn, and Olaf wasn't it?

(the very fact i remember that says my childhood television watching choices...and what i actually absorbed into the brain...left much to be desired  )
