translation or phonetic equivalent?
My name comes from Old English for "rich friend." The standard Chinese translation would be "Fù yǒu," but the English doesn't sound at all like that (thank goodness!).

About a year ago, I sat on a jury for a trial in which the defendant and the two main witnesses for the prosecution were all Chinese – and all had the same name.

Our legal system has a problem with Vietnamese names.
The computers cannot over a two-letter name.

And the authorities will probably expect name changes rather than an improved computer program.
(Yes, even before computers, "Ng" generally was transcribed as "Eng").

Our civil servants often had trouble with that, as I recall.
Had trouble with a lot of names, didn't they? My Irish surname shows up in eight English variations.
But a toponymy crew once collected proper Irish names for topographical features in Connaught. Unfortunately, they collected them from an old prankster who made up names like "turtle's dick" and "old maid's tits" for them.

"Homecoming" is an event in many American high schools, colleges, and universities, that takes place in the Fall, when the students return to school from summer break. It usually involves sporting events, a parade, and a ball, and is presided over by a "Homecoming Court" elected or appointed from among the student body. A "King" and/or "Queen" is selected from the seniour class - those who will be graduating at the end of the year - and is usually a student who has contributed greatly to the school.

Most people don't really think of The Monkees as a serious group because of the TV show. However, they had a huge impact on the music of their time. Michael Nesmith has been considered one of the pioneers of country rock and is credited with having one of the best country rock albums ever produced.
His mother, Bette also made the family a fortune by "inventing" white out. The white material used to cover mistakes when typewriters were used.

Even though we graduated in 1974 and had come of age with some of the finest and wildest ranges of music to listen to in the late sixties to mid-seventies, our unofficial class song was one we snagged from the year before most of us had been born.
Rock Around the Clock
That song being played at a dance, pep rally, prom, football game, or whatever, never failed to have everyone up on their feet rocking out.
