Thanks, JKD, for stirring the memories. That was my first date. I was 7, and took this cute neighbor to the show. Her teenage sister told her she should give me a kiss; I've been a strong supporter of older sisters ever since.

So, free association...

First Dates

Even though we graduated in 1974 and had come of age with some of the finest and wildest ranges of music to listen to in the late sixties to mid-seventies, our unofficial class song was one we snagged from the year before most of us had been born.

Rock Around the Clock

That song being played at a dance, pep rally, prom, football game, or whatever, never failed to have everyone up on their feet rocking out.

:nana: :nana: :nana:

That song nearly caused the closure of several Cinemas (that's movie-houses to our colonials), as the audience just wanted to get up and dance.
Several had to get a strong Police presence to quieten things a little.

This is the sort of music I wish I had seen a lot more of:- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pt3VkoUEkxE

Do I remember something about "eating Grover Peas" ?

My parents were farmers. They grew peas - among other things. I remember eating peas straight from the vine - and making myself sick. It was several years before I could eat them again.

Peas only belong in tuna casseroles...and even there should preferably have the taste completely smothered with cheese and a crust of French fried onion rings.

That's probably "Goober Peas," HP. "Sittin' by the roadside/Underneath the trees/Goodness how delicious/Eatin' goober peas." Goober peas (peanuts) were a staple of the Confederate Army in the American Civil War, and this comes from one of their songs.

Tuna melt dinners in the trailer park.

They have dinners in the trailer park!?

We most certainly do. Tonight's consisted of a delectably thick Porterhouse steak, baked potato, and corn on the cob...all done on the grill and topped off with several glasses of good wine, and a slice of double fudge cake.

I'm thinking of putting on an addition or two even so I can hang out with you McMansion people.

Nah . . .
With a hint of sugar and salt, cooked gently and served with Sliced Carrot and Steak & Kidney pie, with lashings of real gravy.
