Freedom: The New Era

Lauren ducked as the LPG tank exploded and she wanted to shout at someone to get the fire that it had started out but knew that everyone was still too busy with Josh and the experiment that had just arrived. She cursed the fact that they hadn't found the other one yet which had led to this but knew that no amount of cursing would get anything down. She turned her head to look at Josh and pulled up her shotgun but before she could take another shot she saw several of her men fly through the air as if hit by something invisible.

"What the hell is going on here? Who else is out there!"

It was then that the man appeared before her, his hand flying up to catch her in the stomach. As she fell to the ground she looked at his face, at his evil smile.

"I thought that you were dead."

"Not quite but thanks for the concern," Ethan said before he fire a burst of energy at a group of soldiers just to hear them scream out.

He took a look down at Lauren, "Do not worry. I have not forgotten about you," he said before he disappeared before her eyes.

As she got to her feet Lauren saw the blue ball of energy fly out of nowhere and catch one of the Hummers in it. She didn't have time to shout out before it exploded. All that she could hear was the laughter that seemed to be all around her.

Noelani had finally made it to dry land. Only to hear a loud explosion. She looked back at the wharf that she had escaped from and knew immediately that they had come to save her. She was dripping wet and headed around to try and help them. They were in trouble because of her... she couldn't leave them there no matter how much she wanted to.

'Shit shit shit,' she thought to herself as she spotted what was going on. Men were firing on... well they were focusing on. Focusing she slowly pushed her arms away from her, the water receding, no one noticed as they were all occupied. Once she was sure that she had enough she forcefully pulled the murky ice water up onto the wharf, many were swept into surrounding warehouses and other's off of the piers and into the water.

During this confusion she ran for where she was sure her rescuers were.

'Come on come on,' she motioned while speaking to their minds. 'We gotta go now! Before they regroup!' God she was so cold... she was shivering and her lips were blue.

Josh raised his weapon and aimed at a soldier but before he could a figure appeared as if out of nowhere, making Josh focus on him. It was then that Josh saw his face.

"Oh shit," was all he could say before he saw the energy blast consume several soldiers.

It was then that Ethan disappeared in front of him which made Josh look around to try and find him. He knew one thing at that point; if Ethan was here then they shouldn't be, it was as simple as that.

It was then that she watched as the water seemed to flow over the wharf by itself and knew that there was only one person around here capable of it, unless Ethan had taken it from somone. He hoped that that someone wasn't Noelani. It was then that he turned around to see her face. As soon as he saw her he let a smile come to his face; she was still alive and he knew that it was time to get out of here.

"Let's get out of here now!" Josh said as he looked towards Jack.

"Take my keys!" Jack ordered, throwing them to josh. "Ill hold them off long enough for you to get away relatively unnoticed." Jack said snarling and gripping his pistols. "Go now, Itll take a bit more then what they've got to put old Jack down." he said as he leapt on top of a building and opened fire. "Ill meet you back at base! GO NOW!"

"You don't understand. We all have to get out of here! It isn't just those people here! There is something else here that we have to get away from as soon as possible!"

As soon as he finished speaking a part of the wharf was blasted away by a large explosion that rocked them on their feet. He looked towards it just to see Ethan appear and start to throw the unfortunate soldiers through the air as if they were nothing more than tissue paper. He swore that he could hear Ethan's laughter as he was killing the soldiers and knew that had to get out of there fast before Ethan knew that they were there.

He turned on his heels as he got to his feet and took Noelani's arm in one hand, trying hard not to squeeze it but he knew that he was.

"I am sorry that we could not have rescued you without all the theatrics but we have to get out of here as fast as we can and I do mean now."

Noelani didn't want to leave anyone behind...

She knew what it was like to be alone here with all of those men searching for just little her. And the large explosion nearly sent her to her knees. She was lucky that there was a box nearby for her to grip onto.

The drenched, but slowly drying, girl looked to see the soldiers being killed off one by one as they man, who she did not know, was laughing. She knew immediately that even thought he was the enemy of their enemy... he was not their friend.

She wasn't listening to what the two men were saying but suddenly...

"I am sorry that we could not have rescued you without all the theatrics but we have to get out of here as fast as we can and I do mean now."

And she was suddenly forced to run as he tightly gripped her hand. God, like she wasn't already exhausted. But she didn't argue, she let him pull her, trying not to slow him down as they fled the scene, she didn't know if Jake was following them or not, she didn't dare look back...

Not even from the safety of the car.

She looked at Josh and let her mind do the talking to him. "Who was that?"

"The fuck is that?" Jack swore, leaping off the building as he reloaded and kept firing, attempting to draw the new arrivals attention away from his compatriots.

Ethan looked at what was left of the soldiers with a smile. He had not come here expecting to find a group of soldiers here but now that he was here he had decided to have a little fun with them. He walked slowly up to one of them, a young man who was having trouble bringing up his rifle.

"Do you want to die?"

"No sir, I don't want to die."

"Too bad," Ethan said before he leaned down.

The young soldiers scream was cut off by Ethan's hand as he wrapped it around the upper part of his head and squeezed his head. As he wiped his hand on the dead soldiers uniform he got to his feet just to see a couple running away from him. His first thought was to follow them but it was then that he saw the wolf like creature jump down from the building, two pistols in his hand.

Hmmm, this is going to be interesting, he thought as he lifted one of small boats from the water and threw it at the wolf as hard as he could. He knew that it might be enough though and picked up a Hummer.

"I wonder if he can dodge more than one thing?"

With a laugh he threw the Hummer.

"That unfortunately is the earliest experiment. His name is Ethan and although he may look like he is helping us he isn't. There is only one thing that guides Ethan and that is wanton destruction. All I know of him is that the age that he shows isn't his real one, nobody knows exactly how old he really is and he can take on the power of other experiments. Catherine has a file on him that she liberated from the facility when she left if you want to read more. All I know is that we have to get out of here and now."

He knew that he did not want to leave Jack behind but he also knew that Jack was giving them cover so that they could get out of here.

It was then that he saw the small boat and Hummer go flying through the air.

He turned quickly to look at Noelani, "Stay here. I think that Jack might be in trouble."

Jack saw the stranger throw the hummer and boat at him. "Fuck!" he yelled quickly leaping back and over another building to the side. He quickly leapt away again, to put more distance between himself and the attacker. If i can hold him for just another minute or two they should have gotten far enough away for me to hightail it out jack thought to himself as he kept shooting at the powerful experiment.

She looked to where Josh was looking and knew that it was going to be a lot of trouble for the men. And here she was being told to stay? This was a dangerous situation dammit, she didn't need to sit around and be useless. She could help.

But maybe she should wait. They had rescued her... oh wait... she had rescued them as she recalled. Men were so odd sometimes.

There had to be somthing she could do right?

Josh pulled out his pistols but knew that they would be useless against someone as powerful as Ethan. He stood there and watched as Jack jumped out of the way of the Hummer then the boat befor sliding them back into their holsters and looking at Noelani.

"We have to get out of here. Jack is buying us some time and I do not want to be here if Ethan does finish him off," Josh said before he ran to the truck and pulled the door open.

As soon as he was seating down he twisted the key in the ignition just to hear the engine prepare to start. He looked at the front of the truck and screamed at it.

"Start now you blasted thing!"

With that it kicked into life and Josh looked at Noelani, "Get in here now! We have to get out of here!"

Everything was happening so fast and it was a blur of images and emotions. But Josh had decided quickly enough that it was time to go.

"We have to get out of here. Jack is buying us some time and I do not want to be here if Ethan does finish him off."

She watched him jump in the car and looked back to the scene at the wharf, she almost started to head back down there. She had to help him didn't she? Wasn't that what they did? Help each other? Protect one another?

"Start now you blasted thing!"

She heard the truck roar to life and looked back at the man who was someone she trusted, she knew he was here to help and knew that he didn't really have to be here. "Get in here now! We have to get out of here!"

It was against her better judgement as she ran back to the truck and jumped in. She continued to look out the window as the car began to pull away. She tried another wave... sure that could help but as they drove away her power over the water began to weaken.

Ethan stood there and watched as the wolf experiment jumped out of the way of the boat and Hummer.

"Guess I get to have a little more fun," he said as he grabbed a piece of the railing.

There was tearing sound as Ethan ripped it out of the wharf and began to walk over to where the experiment was. As he got closer to it he could feel the power that flowed from the thing and knew that it would be so easy to take it but he also knew that it would end his fun far too easily. It was then that he heard the bullets strike the barrier he had erected around himself and looked at the experiment.

"Come here little wolf. I have a little present for you."

He started to tap the railing post against his hand with a smile.

Jack snarled and holstered his guns. He then deployed both his arm blades and lowered into a fighting stance. "Come here pretty boy." He said, as he let more of his power flow, increasing his strength and speed and agility.

As Ethan moved closer to the experiment he felt the power flow even stronger from it and smiled.

"You want a fight do you. Well then I can give you one."

He swung the rail post at the wolf, wanting nothing more than to send it flying across the wharf and into the building on the other side. He just hoped that it wasn't fast enough to stop him.

Do you think that you can really beat me? he said into the wolf's mind as he sent a mental image of the post connecting.

Jack smirked as he blocked with his armblades, watching as the pole was shorn cleanly in two. "I hope you got something a little more fun for me then that!" Jack said as he leapt at Ethan.

Ethan closed his eyes for a second and felt the wolf experiment jump towards him then opened his eyes as he raised his hand. The smile on his face came back when he saw the wolf creature handing in mid air mere centrimetres from his noise.

"As a matter of fact I do wolf. Now if you would be so kind."

He flicked his wrist and watched as the wolf flew through the air to crash into the wharf several feet away. Ethan then wiped the sleeve of his coat before he started to walk towards the wolf his hand still raised.

"Oh, I wouldn't try to move if I were you. That would make this rather painful."

It was a pleasant enough day for John, as he flew high through the air. Now that the GPS transmitter had been destroyed, he was free to do what he wished, not having to stay where satellites had difficulty finding him. Right now, he was gliding on the air currents rising from the sea just off the coast of San Francisco. He was high enough that normal eyes wouldn’t be able to see him without aid, and even then it would be hard since he was almost directly in line with the sun.

He, however, could easily see the movements of the various people on the wharfs of San Francisco. Still circling high overhead, something caught his gaze: a large and rather lethal gunfight had broken out on one of the wharfs. There really wasn’t anything unusual about the fight (that is, if you were soldiers on the front lines of some war), but that all changed very quickly when several explosions took place.

Then John saw, unmistakably, that the fight had come down to a battle between two experiments. Both of which, he did not recognize, but one he had seen arrive in the company of someone he did recognize. That person (the one he didn’t recognize) was not fairing too well in this fight.

John decided to intervene immediately. Folding his wings back sharply, he plummeted like a bullet. He was aimed directly at the guy who was beating up on the other, who was now flat on his back. John would hit this guy right between the shoulder blades in excess of 200 mph, with enough force to crush a tank. John started mentally counting down to impact: 30…20…10…5…4…3…2…

"Alright, that hurt." Jack said as he pulled himself up off the ground, nearby in a busted shed obviously used for storage was a whole stack of fuel tanks, obviiously used to change out on different machines on the docks. They'll have gotten away by now. Jack thought to himself as he seized four of the tanks, with a mighty throw they were launched at Ethan. They closed in, Jack pulled his pistols. Four quick, perfect shots, as he jumped far back.

BOOOOOOOOOM!!

She nodded towards Bay Nur, whom she had only known for a short while and kept on friendly terms. She looked at the small girl and shook her head, sure she had punched the lights out of Ronald but he was a cool eighteen, he could handle it. Though she disapproved of Luise's current state, she kept her mouth shut. Later, she could go the girl and ask just how Bay had 'captured' her.

Then she grinned up at Jack, "Nice to meet ya Capt'in," she looked over at Josh and knew that he was itching to show the new around. Then all of a sudden, pandemonium broke out. Luise was now awake as struggling to break free. It seemed that she had some sort of ability to throw darts from her body. Maybe they were laced with poison or something? She wasn't sure, but she also knew that this situation, what with the extraordinary levels of testosterone that were present, would very quickly escalate.

She made ready to diffuse the situation but soon realised that there was no reason to be so uptight. She looked over to Luise and smiled gently, "Come on, its okay. Believe me, they're telling the truth," she was hoping that the fact that she was the only other female in the immediate area would help to calm the girl down.

Then all sorts of explanations were given as to why she was here. Eve shook her head and muttered to herself, "Men..."

And then Josh got an odd phone call and it was all immediate battle stations again. She rolled her eyes and shook her head, "I'll sit this one out, Josh, Jack," and she watched them leave.

Then she spoke softly to Luise, "Are you hungry, kid? We've got a pretty mean kitchen around here." She nodded to Bay, "She's alright, she ain't gonna hurt anybody as long as she doesn't feel threatened, besides, I've got Sam with me, so you can go and join the other two if you want,"

As always, she really didn't take notice of Ken. He seemed to just blend in the background, as always, but she knew that he was there. She reached out a hand and beckoned to Luise, "Come on, I know where we can get some grub and have a little chat."
Bay let her go, and procceded to follow the other two to the battlefield. He took his motercycle, and was soon hacking his way through the soldiers that noone else had noticed attempting to ambush them.

Luise was gratefull to have meet this lady, and immediatly responded. "That would be great, thank you"

Ken followed the two leaders and Bay to the battlefield. He used his power to help the two leaders, then settled into the back to watch the fight with the newest experiment in the battle.

Ethan stood there and watched as the wolf got up then picked up the tanks.

"Hmm, you are persistent aren't you," he said to himself as he watched the tanks go flying through the air towards him.

He knew that there was no way he would be able to cover the distance between him and the wolf before the tanks got to him so he strengthened the shield around him and waited for them to hit him. He did not expect the wolf to bring up his pistols and fire at the tanks. Seconds later the explosion rocked him and little and he felt the shards of metal strike his shield. He stood there and waited for a second, hoping that the wolf had not gotten away in the ensuing chaos. It was then that something slammed into him from above, sending him crashing to the wharf and he was glad that he had strengthened his shield because he would have been crushed.

Very slowly he tried to get to his feet but found that he couldn't.

As Josh slammed his foot down on the accelerator the whole truck was rocked by several explosions. He looked towards where Ethan and Jack were and hoped to god that Jack was alright and that Ethan hadn't gotten to him.

It was then that he saw Bay and Ken running in to help Jack, totally oblivious to the danger they were now facing.

"Don't go in there you two. Jack is trying to hold him off long enough for us to get away. Now get on that damn bike, start it up and follow me. We have to get the hell out of here and now!"

He then looked at Noelani, "There is no need to worry Noelani. We are going to get out of here now; there is no way I am going to let anyone get to you. I promise you that."

As soon as he finished speaking he took off down the street and looked in the drivers side window just to see Bay and Ken behind him on Bay's bike.

Everything was crazy. The young woman grabbed onto the handle of the truck door after hooking her seatbelt. She listened to him yell to the others to come back and follow. People were nuts. Why run off to join a fight that you couldn't possibly hope to win. The best that could come out of this was Jack sneaking out alive.

"There is no need to worry Noelani. We are going to get out of here now; there is no way I am going to let anyone get to you. I promise you that."

'I'm not worried...' she mind spoke to him. Noelani was gripping the hand pretty tight as they sped away. She didn't realize she had closed her eyes until she actually opened them. She looked around the street they were racing down and looked back to see if the other's were following.

'Josh... Is... Is he going to be alright?' Of course she was worried about him. He had been worried enough to come and rescue her hadn't he?
