Freedom: The New Era

"That sounds awful," she said softly, remembering her own history. No doubt she had gone through much the same thing Eve had, but still, such a young girl would not have stood it so well. It was amazing that Luise wasn't half mad by now.

"Oh me? There's really not much to tell. I was an experiment, I know all about those 'horrible' things. Then I escaped and now I'm here. I search for others like yourself and I try to help them as best I can," she waved her fork around as she completely forgot about her pancakes.

after a short hump, Jack arrived back at the warehouse that functioned as headquarters. He was wet still, and getting a bit cold, in his drenched beater and fatigues. He saw his truck parked back there and quickly opened it up and grabbed his cigarettes. He lit one, and wondered what he looked like as a smoking werewolf. It was then he noticed the large stab in his truck as if from some sort of dagger. "WHO STABBED MY TRUCK!!??" he roared. He then banged on the door, trying to get someones attention.

John arrived over the main base in San Francisco and started his decent. As he got closer to the roof, he saw a large door open for him in the roof. Instead of drifting lazily down, John dropped through the hole, which closed above him, using his wings to keep him at a reasonable speed.

John struck solid concrete, landing with a loud thud and a crack, as if the concrete had just been split. He had landed just yards away from a pick-up truck, and next to it, in a rather bad mood was the wolf-guy John had helped, supposedly.

John remained camouflaged as he walked away from the spot where he landed, his lightly impacted footprints evident in the concrete. He approached the truck, and once he was next to the hood, he revealed himself, with wings, but appearing to be wearing a set of BDUs. He smiled at the wolf-guy and waited.

Jack turned slightly and saw the dragon man. "Whoa now!" he yelled leaping away and drawing his pistols, aiming at each eyeball. "Before you wonder, yes, i am good enough to put a bullet through each eye. Who are you?"

John simply looked at the wolf-guy with his guns pointed at John's head. He wasn't even phased by it.

"Name's John Hera," replied John, in a rough voice. "And you are?"

"Captain Jack Daugherty, United States Marine Corps. Josh brought me in to lead this motley crew." Jack said. "Course i havent gotten a key yet."

Luise thought about this, then answered kinda quickly.

"It must be hard, being an outcast, but i guess it's worth it. So can i help you guys out with this rescue thing?"

"Marine Corps, eh?" mused John as he looked the wolf-guy over. "Didn't think they allowed wolves to join the military."

While John didn't know all that much about the military, he knew enough to be able to identify the different branches. He learned that from that wind bag doctor at the facility, by the name of Dennis Orfe.

"And don't worry about a key, I don't have one either, but I'm sure they know we're here," said John, as he turned and walked towards the doors into the main facility.

Eve smiled and laughed, "First off we'd have to see what you can do," she jerked her fork towards the lifts, "Josh'll run you through some exercises and then we'll see about training you. But it might be a bit before you can join the team fully," she smiled down at the young girl.

Then she looked up, it seemed there was some sort of commotion around. Perhaps the others had come back? She stood up and smiled at Luise, "Lets see if Josh is back, okay? And then we'll ask him what he want to do with you."

She proceeded to - leaving the uneaten food and drink on the table - make her way back to Samuel. She saw a sort of perplexed look on his face when she walked towards him and tilted her head, "What's up?"

He just silently pointed to a security monitor. She had a look and then grinned, turning to Josh and the others that were just now coming down the elevator and spilling out onto the second level. "You might wanna look at this, Josh. Seems like Draco's back!" she pointed to the security footage detailing a rather maddened and wary werewolf holding two guns at the half man, half dragon that she had met in her earlier travels.

"Ok, That's fine with me." She fallows Eve to the camera.

"Who is that man?

Ken was leaving the med bay when he noticed that Bay was awake. He ran out, ignoring Bays shouts.

He was back in the hallway and he noticed a guys with wings on the camera. living proof that we really do come in all shapes and sizes.

He walked over to Josh and waited for the conversation to start, when Bay came in.

Bay was kind of worried when he woke up. He thought that he had been captured. His memory came back when he saw Ken.

"You bastard! come back here!" The meds tried to keep him down, but stepped away when he displayed his bone blades. He got up and walked into the hallway, then chased after Ken, and winded up with him and the others.

"What the hell did you do to me! I wanted to fight! I’m going to knock you flat!"

She chuckled, "Which one?" she asked and continued to follow the exchange between the experiments on the level above them. She noticed that Josh had a few others with him, others that she didn't recognise. Catherine, though, she did and she gave a small grin and a wave towards the female scientist.

She well remembered Catherine from the facility. Even though she had been nice... it was still hard to completely put her trust in the woman. But then again, that was what smiles had been invented for, wasn't it?

She pointed at the winged man, "That's John. He likes to be called Draco nowadays. Anyway," she shrugged, "Not much to him, really. He's a bit of a loner. And Jack, well," she grinned again, "You've already met Jack. So you know about as much as I do about him."

Then she noticed the commotion around her when Ken came strolling into the area. Followed by a running, screaming Bay. She raised an eyebrow and stood straighter, leveling herself up to her full height. She raised one hand and pointed it at Bay, an electrical charge building between her outstretched fingers.

"Hey!" she warned Bay as electricity jumped between her finger tips, ready to zap towards the other man, "Leave him alone. Are you a friend, or a foe? Choose and then act accordingly!" Her voice rose authoritively, her soft manner gone.

The Parking Garage

As the elevation descended into the complex, Hayden heard a mutter from Michael.

“At least we're not the only ones anymore,” he said, quietly. A small smile creased Hayden’s face as he had been thinking the exact same thing. They’d finally found a place where those of their kind could gather and live without fear of being hunted.

The elevator doors opened to an underground concrete structure, much like a parking garage. The stern man from the lobby was striding towards them and spoke softly to Catherine as she stepped from the elevator.

“Ethan has resurfaced," he said. Catherine’s eyes widened as the news sank in. Their conversation was too muffled to hear anything else except ”We have a huge problem."

There were several other experiments in the bay, many of whom Hayden had never seen before. The two that really drew his attention were a soggy man was holstering two pistols as he conversed with a half-man half-dragon creature.

“Well, this is certainly a motley bunch,” Hayden said under his breath as he followed Catherine and Michael out of the elevator. He placed his hand on Catherine’s shoulder to garner her attention.

“I take it Ethan is not someone to be taken lightly. Since we’ve both decided to stick around for awhile, care to enlighten us?”

Just part of a nervous habit Hayden had whenever things looked like they might turn sour, he scratched his chest lightly and brushed his hand against the butt of his pistol, just to ensure it was still there. Whoever this Ethan was, he had the entire hive abuzz.

What have I gotten myself into… he thought.

Josh turned to look at the newest arrivals and tried to put a smile onto his face but he couldn't; there would be no reason to sugar coat things.

"From what I know of him Ethan is the very first experiment."

Catherine suddenly cut him off, "I wish that we had more time with you before we told you all this but this is the full story. Ethan was the very first experiment that was ever created by the group as Josh just told you. Back in those days the scientists had no idea what they were doing when they created him and were surprised when he started to display powers."

She took a deep breath and wished that they were either in the labs or training level where she was more comfortable but in this large open area she knew everyone was looking at her which was having the opposite effect. She was getting more nervous every second. She knew that she had to tell the others what she knew though.

"I came in after Ethan left the facility but managed to grab hold of videos of him and his files. Ethan's power is a little hard to understand as he borrows them from others and amplifies them, he can even take something from humans to strengthen himself. Okay; what I was saying earlier was that the scientists didn't know how they had done it and were so amazed that they started to run tests, take bits and pieces of his DNA to replicate what they had done. The experiments had a major side effect on Ethan and he became so enraged that he became psychotic. The last thing he said before he destroyed the scientists in the room with him and disappeared was that everyone made after him was a mistake that he would fix."

As she took another breath Josh spoke up.

"Now you know one of the things that we are up against. We were hoping that we could tell you later, after you had trained with us a little but it seems that Ethan doesn't want to wait."

A Question from Hayden

So, the first experiment. The one that was done before they knew what they were doing. The one that they did before they knew how to put in controls and limits. The one they did before they started the psychological preparation to keep people from going nuts when they were using their powers.

And now it seems like he’s coming after us.

Fan-fucking-tastic.

As if the agents from the facility weren’t bad enough, now Hayden had one of the other experiments on his case. And a nutcase one at that. He was beginning to wonder why he hadn’t just run from the building the moment Catherine had asked him to join. Or why he had gone to the building at all instead of simply disappearing to another city as he had done numerous times before.

“So if he can absorb and multiply our abilities, how can we even try to stop him?”

Fortunately for them, Bay seemed to calm down a little after being spoken to thus. Eve raised an eyebrow as he backed down, leaving a nervous looking Ken glancing alternatively from her to Bay. Electricity still leaped between her fingers but she smiled, "Look Bay, we're all scared here. There's no need to go off your nut like that. And you!" she turned to Ken, "Don't go around shooting off at who ever doesn't do something you say. I rather liked it when you were the quiet one!" she sighed in exasperation and then quirked another eyebrow, Catherine was going on about someone called Ethan.

"So? I missed the party, huh?" she asked her, smiling in quite an arrogant way. Not even waiting for an answer, she turned back to Bay who was still eyeing her with a little uncertainty.

She rolled her eyes and shook her head, "Look, just calm down. Not every one here's looking for a fight, you know?" Bay's eyes shifted slightly and she sighed again, "Geeze, where'd we pull you from, World War 2?"

Bay simply shrugged and finally seemed to calm down. He even allowed a small smile of embarrassment to come to his lips and Ken just looked at the floor. "Sorry...." they both muttered at the same time, both looking alarmed at hearing each others voices and going red. Presumably from shame.

The electricity disappeared and Eve nodded. "Good boys. I want both of you to train together from now on. As a team and I want you both to look after each other. You're going to learn just how much we need to rely on each other and you're going to learn some damned respect!"

The two men didn't really challenge that order. They had no way of knowing that she didn't hold some secret power over them. But the wrath of a female was always something to be wary of, especially if that female could literally fry your organs into liquid.

She arched an eyebrow towards Josh, secretly hoping inside that she hadn't overstepped her boundaries. She had a feeling that he wouldn't mind, as it was rather the right thing to do with them but at the same time, she had made it sound like she was in charge.

Oh well, nothing to do about it, she supposed. She would deal with the consequences later. She looked down at Luise and gave a somewhat apologetic smile for the little display she'd just caused but otherwise remained silent.

Suddenly she seemed to remember something.

"Oh, I don't remember seeing you guys before," she directed at the newcomers, Michael and Hayden, "I'm Eve." She smiled in a friendly like manner, "Don't worry, I don't zap unless asked to!"

Noelani remained quite throughout the entire conversation and the arguement between the two men and the electric woman. They had met once or twice but, at least on Noelani's part, she was far too busy to just hang around this place. She was very in control of her powers and the water and wind girl was usually out trying to find more experiments and bring them in.

It was then that she felt a little bad. She gently tugged on Josh's arm trying to get his attention. Anyone could see from her features that she had just remembered something important.

"I have to go back out... That young girl... she's still out there and I would hate for them to find her." She mind spoke only to Josh. 'Them' meaning the ones that had tracked her down and hunted her at the wharf. While she proved that she was well trained that day and could probably handle herself it was clear that she had called for help because she was sincerely nervous of being caught and held down and tested some more.

She shivered a little at the thought.

It was then she really thought about it. Maybe... maybe she should go with someone. Her eyes fell on Eve. She would be a good partner. "I am going to fetch the reason I was stuck at the wharf... To prevent another incident as such... I was wondering if you would come with me?" Noelani was speaking only to Eve now.

Hayden Meets Eve

The woman he had seen earlier turned to him and spoke, formally introducing herself as Eve. She seemed to be able to control and manipulate electricity, as demonstrated by the arcing power in her hands Hayden had just seen.

Hayden was always a little hesitant about new people, especially those who might constitute a threat against him. He scratched his chest lightly again, running his thumb over the butt of his pistol.

“Hayden. Good to meet you.”

The attention of Josh and Eve seemed to shift to the girl who had been standing patiently, even though she was dripping wet. She must be one of the other experiments as well. Hayden thought about what he should do. He could stay here and train, but there was little that he could do to hone his skills. He had mastered his cloaking and was in decent control of his telekinesis. Plus, sitting around here would be just like sitting around his apartment, waiting for anything to happen. He would be just as much of a prisoner here as he was there.

“Well, I’m no good to you guys just sitting around here, so what’s the plan?”

"I am going to fetch the reason I was stuck at the wharf... To prevent another incident as such... I was wondering if you would come with me?"

Eve raised an eyebrow as Noelani reached into her mind and spoke her words to just her. She shook her head and looked down at Luise. Ah well, she supposed that the young experiment was Josh and Catherine's concern now that she had decided to stay within the complex.

She nodded, silently agreeing with herself, "Sure, why not?" she shrugged. The water woman and her and only met on a few separate occasions and while they had admired and acknowledged each other, it seemed that electricity and water really didn't mix all that well after all.

She smiled. Ah well, at least this would give her a chance to get to know the other woman better. Taking no noticed of Bay or Ken, she turned around and checked the bank of monitors again. It seemed that the situation between Draco and their new captain had been somewhat resolved. At least they weren't yelling at each other.

She smirked. Men.

Then she heard Hayden speak up and smiled politely at him, "Nice to meet you. I'd shake, but you see I've got some killer static building right now," she apologised, sure the other would understand. She nodded thoughtfully to herself.

So, what could the others do?
