Gals, does your libido go nuts around midcycle, too?

OK, I'm getting closer and closer to full menopause at age 48, yet every month about midcycle for the last few years, my sex drive usually goes right through the roof! It used to be for just 3 or 4 days, but now it can last for up to a 8 or 9!

Anyone else going through this? I'd say that I'm finally getting rewarded for all those earlier years of moody tearfulness and lack of desire and nasty cramps (which are pretty minimal now) but sometimes it's almost embarrassing! Hubby hears the electric buzz of my vibrator under the sheets or in the bathroom, and rolls his eyes and says "that time of the month, huh? I have barely recovered from last month!" Thank god he's understanding, and also thank god he's not trying to keep up with me anymore. I thought he'd die trying, the last time he attempted that.

And no, I'm not bragging, either. Hub and I have had some discussions about being "slaves to our sex drives" and he relates that when he was a teen he sometimes felt his urges were overriding other things he wanted to do. I sometimes feel similar. At present, only hub and my own hands/toys give me relief, but some days I just want to grab that new twenty-something intern at work and teach him a thing or two!

Anyway, back to my point (and I do have one!) Any other gals get like this midcycle? Does it get worse? Does it get better? Do I want it to?

In a fertile woman (meaning no hormonal birth control or menopause), mid-cycle is generally the time of ovulation, and thus, the peak of fertility. The third of the cycle surrounding the middle is the most fertile phase, so it's when we're likely to be horny, with our libido at its highest around the time our bodies are trying to ovulate/get pregnant.

Even when I don't ovulate, my body knows it's supposed to, and I get really horny.

If your cycles are fairly regular and menopause hasn't wreaked too much havoc yet, you should be able to correlate the increased libido with your cervical fluid discharge and/or vaginal sensations. When it starts to get creamy/lotiony, your libido will increase, and it'll peak when you notice eggwhite-like/super slippery/clear fluid (your vagina feels hot/humid/wet at this time as well).

For more information, look up Fertility Awareness and read Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler.

Ummm...oh my gosh yes. It's gotten so much more obvious as I've gotten older. This is a good thing, I think. I've also noticed that the actual cramping, bloating, craving, moodiness nonsense has decreased accordingly. Also a good thing. ;)

Until I read your thread and SweetErika's post, I have to admit I didn't realize to the full extent all the changes we go through during a cycle. I just turned 49 and had a partial hysterectomy at 39. Have to admit (not a good thing so PLEASE do not try this at home) I have not been back to an OBGYN since my followup after the surgery.

I have truely wondered why the drastic change in my sex drive after all these years. I have always enjoyed sex, but you are right. It has become almost embarassing for me at times. When my husband has to ask if I am OK to just roll over and go to sleep, I want to LOL. I have never before been able to keep up with nor understand his seemingly endless desires. Now, I am the one initiating it! (and he says finally after all these years).

If this is menopause, count me in. I hope it never ends!

I feel horny all the time at the moment, I think partly down to my cycle being up the wall due to having an IUD fitted, my drive seems to be increasing with age (36), & 'coz I'm not getting any I can't think of much else.

Actually it's really annoying me at the moment that I'm not doing much other than read erotica & play with myself in what little spare time I have. I'm (kind of) in a LDR at the moment but I'm not getting as much from that as I was (not as much phone sex etc) which I have brought up with him, his reply? "Have patience." Grrr, patience my ass, I need some real time sex!

Sorry, rant over.

On a random note, I clicked on this link because I misread the thread title as "does your libido go nuts around motorcycles?" and I was curious. :p

I don't know what is wrong with me lately. I want it all the time. It's to bad my husband is so busy at work that he can't come home mid day. Holiday season and all.

I'll just have to wear him out at night.

Huh, midcycle? For me it's always the two days before my period and the first day of, if the cramps aren't bad. Wonder if this has to do with me being on birth control pills or having PCOS...?

I am so glad to read that I'm not alone in this regard, even if some of the particulars vary from woman to woman!

I was going to reply again here last night, but the mere act of reading this and other threads got my motor running, and I went and jumped hubby instead. End result: 3 orgasms with him (multiple cums is a wonderful side-effect, I never used to have them), then he fell asleep, and I wandered off to the bath to have a 4th! And I still drifted off to sleep thinking about sex! Good Grief!!

I'm starting to calm down a bit today. Thank goodness.

Oh my goodness, yes! I sorta keep track of my cycles and man, when that cervial mucous starts to increase, wow!

Yep, from about the 10th to the 18th day of my cycle all I want is sex! Like Sweet Erika said it's all to do with nature knowing when you're most fertile and most likely to fall pregnant so your sex drive is upped :D. Damn, gotta love nature!! ;)
The 2 days before my period I'm not at all in the mood for sex (unlike me, DH knows when I'm about to get my period just by this) and then a couple days in I'm back again with a vengence.

So you're saying there's hope for us young studs that endure long stretches of sexless, lonely nights (most recent stretch for me was 45 days without it) without the comfort of our spouses? Thank God I only have another 15 years before her mid 40's ;) .

It's because you're ovulating and your body is trying to trick you into conceiving. I asked my ob/gyn when I was 22/23 because I was wondering about my own sexual desire peaks and valleys and that was her comment.

I don't know about when you are in your 40's, I am a long way below that, but i have about a week or so every month when I am as horny as hell. Does it get worse (better) with age?

I am only in my mid 20s, but for years I get horny around the day where I ovulate. and it is really horny as in "maybe I should start something with that coworker despite it being a bad idea"-horny.
