I agree on the spec being the determining factor. I tried demo too back when they first introduced the big guy. I much prefer affliction or afflic/destruct hybrid. Of course it has been a long time since I played my UD Lock, she is still at 71 and they have redone locks since then.

I think that I'm going to have to respec him if I'm going to level him. He's 43 or so, and the majority of those levels were "Grant a Level" using the Recruit-a-friend thing. I am SO glad that you don't have spell skills to keep up like you did in EQ. If I had to increase my spell skills commensurate to his level, I'd never do it.

And I am seriously contemplating respeccing my pally in protect. Every time I talk to Recidiva's hubby about his paladin it is one tale after another about the indestructible, unkillable paladin. Wow, that's attractive. Sure, I do the damage now, and I would really miss Redemption and a few other retadin toys, but the whole "unkillable" thing is just hot.

Wish I could frikken afford dual-spec.

I'd forgotten how much work starting a new game entailed. Ugh. But my boards are up, tested, and live, people are signing on, and character concepts are coming in.

If anyone is close enough to pop down to SE VA once a month for a WoD vampire LARP, let me know :D

I almost never use lifetap. I have absolutely zero issues with mana on the orc. Big blue marshamallow holds aggro so well that I pretty much just root and rot, with him acting as the root. Affliction spec means I get health back from Corruption, so health isn't much of an issue either

I take it you are affliction at least past siphon life? If you have neither health or mana issues... you might be fighting too slowly! It is possible to curse of agony/corruption (and unstable affliction if you have enough points) and then fear your target, lifetap, and start on the next one.

There can be a point where everything drops dead from curses while running around wildly and you have ample life from your Blueberry Sacrifice and the health trickling in from corruption. And there are always healthstones and drain life for the closer situations. I found my warlock became so much quicker as affliction when i stopped limiting myself to one target (three! four! five!) on the fly at once.

In general, if I have to drop a second corruption on something, I am killing too slowly. That's about where my mark is. And I'm talking about solo kills. If I am pulling multiples, mana can occasionally get low. Health usually isn't because multiple targets means multiple corruptions feeding me health. Usually.

And the orc takes the hits SO much better than the belf when the mob gets past big blue. And I can't think of the last time I've actually used Dark Pact. That was a waste of talent points.

i keep seeing that. "The Cake is a Lie" Wth is that all about anyway?

"The Cake is a Lie" comes from the game Portal. Johnathan Coulton also wrote a closing credits song that's hilarious.

But basically you're stuck in a "research facility" where you have to get out and the psychotic (I adore her) computer voice that is running the experiment keeps telling you there is cake ahead.
Her name's GladOs. At one point in the game, scrawled in blood on one wall, are the words "the cake is a lie!"

It's a puzzle game and very good, my husband and daughter and son loved it. I just listened. But we've got a lot of the game around. My husband's IPhone says "Hellooooo" in the way the robotic gun ports do when they're shooting at you. And "Goodbye" for when you die.

(I do know the cake isn't a lie, I saw a youtube clip of how to get to the cake. Funny. Side, side note. If you watch the reality show "Solitary" the personality of the host "computer" is a lot like GladOs too. Gotta love insane computers.)

Here's a link to the song - which is now on my MP3 player.

Lyrics:

"Still Alive"

This was a triumph.
I'm making a note here: HUGE SUCCESS.
It's hard to overstate my satisfaction.
Aperture Science
We do what we must
because we can.
For the good of all of us.
Except the ones who are dead.
But there's no sense crying over every mistake.
You just keep on trying till you run out of cake.
And the Science gets done.
And you make a neat gun.
For the people who are still alive.
I'm not even angry.
I'm being so sincere right now.
Even though you broke my heart.
And killed me.
And tore me to pieces.
And threw every piece into a fire.
As they burned it hurt because I was so happy for you!
Now these points of data make a beautiful line.
And we're out of beta.
We're releasing on time.
So I'm GLaD. I got burned.
Think of all the things we learned
for the people who are still alive.
Go ahead and leave me.
I think I prefer to stay inside.
Maybe you'll find someone else to help you.
Maybe Black Mesa
THAT WAS A JOKE.
HAHA. FAT CHANCE.
Anyway, this cake is great.
It's so delicious and moist.
Look at me still talking
when there's Science to do.
When I look out there, it makes me GLaD I'm not you.
I've experiments to run.
There is research to be done.
On the people who are still alive.
And believe me I am still alive.
I'm doing Science and I'm still alive.
I feel FANTASTIC and I'm still alive.
While you're dying I'll be still alive.
And when you're dead I will be still alive.
STILL ALIVE

i must say...i like that guild name :D

Two guild names on EQ that crack me up. "Lasagna is Yummy" and "I Like Pie"

The second one always gets "Leggy Blonde" from "Flight of the Conchords" stuck in my head.

Murray (Rhys Darby):
Goodbye, goodbye-ee-eye
(Leggy Blonde)
Everyday I look across the office floor
There you were your hair down to your legs
And your legs down to the floor.

Leggy Blonde goodbye, goodbye.
Now that you are gone I'll never see here for tech repair
Wish you knew how much I loved your legs and your hair
Leggy blonde goodbye, goodbye

[Chorus]
(Jemaine)
Leggy, Leggy, Leggy, Leggy

(Bret)
Leggy, Leggy, Leggy, Leggy

(Jemaine)
Leggy, Leggy, Leggy, Leggy

(Bret)
Leggy, Leggy, Leggy, Leggy

(Jemaine)
Blondie, Blondie, Blondie, Blondie

(Bret)
Blondie, Blondie, Blondie, Blondie

(Jemaine)
Blondie, Blondie, Blondie, Blondie,

(Bret)
Blondie, Blondie

(Both)
Leggy Blonde, goodbye, goodbye

(Murray)
I had a Budgie, but it died...
Wo-oo-wo
I like Pie!

[Chorus]
(M)
Leggy, Leggy, Leggy, Leggy

(J)
Leggy, Leggy, Leggy, Leggy

(B)
Leggy, Leggy, Leggy, Leggy

(M)
Leggy, Leggy, Leggy, Leggy

(J)
Blondie, Blondie, Blondie, Blondie

(B)
Blondie, Blondie, Blondie, Blondie

(M)
Blondie, Blondie, Blondie, Blondie

(B)
Blondie, Blondie,

(All 3)
Leggy Blonde
sigh
(Murray)
I'll never get,
I'll never get to be with you
I'll never get to share another cup of tea with you
I'll never get to let you know how much I think of you
I'll never get to tear your clothes off on the photo copier

(J)
He'll never get

(B)
He'll never get

(J)
He'll never get

(B)
He'll never get --

(Both)
To say...

(J, fast)
Hot Leggy Blonde, you got it goin' on
Wanna see you wearin' that thong thong thong
See you gettin' down till the break of dawn
Doesn't really count with your
Panties on

Goodbye...

I used to have a running list of "best guild names ever" but ive moved servers and rerolled so many times now that the all the names just kind blur together.

<get in the van i have candy>
a classic

<at least we have stables>
alliance pvp guild and its horde counter part:
<at least we have farm>
Arathi Basin ftw!

<STDs are BOP>
<Hardcore Pwnography>
<come honor face>
<Show us ur Crits> love that one!
<Lick my Crit>
<Looking for Guild>
<Sapped girls cant say no>
Toon name Compulsive guild tag <obsessive>
<Fallopian Swim Team> that one rocks!

When Cataclysm hits, next year, I want to start an all Worgen guild and raid 10 man content.
The IM a BadAss guild tag i've come up with is: <BloodPack>

Any funny tag suggestions?
<Has fleas will travel>?

It really depends on play style, like most things in WoW. If you like ripping one mob in half, one-at-a-time, stay ret, but if you like gathering up... 5 to 8 mobs and just standing there and laughing as they die and you take almost zero damage, then go prot. It will really surprise you, as it did me when i first saw it, how much AOE damage a prot pally can put out.

This goes hand-in-hand with the Warlock discussion before. On the lock I like single target kills... endless single target kills, i never stop, i never slow down. If my first mob is at 50% then I'm pulling another, wash, rinse, repeat endlessly. So, for that playstyle Demo was perfect for me, especially when I got the Fel Guard. That guy flippin rocks!!

And I'm like that with every class i play, I spec and gear for minimum downtime/maximum killing speed. Warrior: Duel Wield Fury all the way (though I might try leveling as prot with my future Worgen). DeathKnight: Blood (talk about an unstoppable killing machine). Warlock: Demo.

I recently completed the Faction Transfer with my warrior from Horde to Alliance and i hadn't played him at all for the past.... 2-3 months, but apparently Blizz really buffed prot warrior dps while i was gone, so I'm happy as a Lark to just kill things as Prot. Hell, my prot gear is so much better than my "DPS gear" that things die faster when I'm prot, and being "unkillable" at the same time is just icing on the cake.

mmmmm cake. The Cake is Not a Lie! Another reason you see that phrase so much in WoW.

I started out preferring the rip-it-in-half style. As time has gone on, I've found that I really dig the mass pulls where I just gather up loads of mobs and flatten them all.

I think the big hurt will be the loss of the ret spells that I LOVE, like Divine Storm and the 1 min duration CC stun. Still, honestly, I don't use the CC all that often, and I'm dying a wee bit more now that we're in the Outlands.

Hate the idea of having to buy all new gear though.

Yup, I went for endless single target kills. My orc'lock is a machine on that sort of hunting.

I'm really thinking hard about Prot. Tanking is becoming more and more important each frikken day. And my ability to keep my own ass alive is faltering.

I quit wow yesterday. gave away 15k gold, left guild, uninstalled and im looking to sell my account. (80 warlock in t9, far far too many achievements completed).

My raid leader had a real fucking rage at me for going afk after a wipe (to talk to someone in my house), i turn around to a kick and instance port.

I have been putting myself through pain (3am raid nights far too often) and i was just like fuck it, this is totally backwards... you should be kissing my ass for the amount i put into this, fuck it, its not good for me, what the fuck am i doing, i'll pull out all of my cancel buttons.

Feels good man :)

Brewfeeeest!

I've never actually done this event. I've gotten all the major achievements, now I just have to run enough dailies to get the vestments and join the brew of the month club.

Cracked me up that I ran around Blackrock Spire for about four hours trying to work my way to the boss and there's a shortcut straight to the bar.

Oh well, I had fun, and I got this shiny key!

Sounds extreme. It's been years and years since I lost any sleep over a game other than a few hours here or there.

20 years ago though, I was in bad shape. Never slept. Couldn't function. I'd go to the microwave to nuke my breakfast and discover the dinner I'd nuked last night and never ate.

This is not to say that I'm not playing still though. I am just lucky because I can play during work hours. I work at home and so I just hang out in another window. I'm also a freelance typist, so right now (on my days off from salaried position) I can type a few minutes when the work's available, and then play a few minutes. For that reason, I can't really join groups, I don't really raid, and I'm just a dedicated soloist. A massively multitasking one. I now have two Sony Station accounts, running two instances of EQ and two instances of EQII, playing two instances of the Legends of Norrath card game, and also keeping up with one of everything in Alliance and Horde.

Main benefit of my spread-it-thin strategy, it's impossible to experience burnout. Also, no jonesing for a game when the servers are down. There's ALWAYS a game up.

Husband right now is playing Aion, which is absolutely gorgeous. My machine won't run it, but I'm content with my...20 Warcraft characters, 24 EQ2 characters and 15 or so EQ characters. Oh, and happily constructing Legends of Norrath decks.

...until he builds me a machine that can run Aion. We're thinking Christmas.

After spending way too much money upgrading computers to handle EQ and raiding, I swore that I would never again get into a game that requires new hardware, nor buy an expansion that requires new hardware. WoW rocks on that standpoint, as it runs bloody well on every machine we have. I'm hoping that Cataclysm does not change that.

I've been upgrading since Perils of Rosella wouldn't run on my PCjr. I guess it's my thing.

Also, living with someone who builds computers does NOT hurt.

I can usually do well just on his hand me downs. The biggest frustration for me in years past was getting Oblivion to run on my machine. But that's what the X-Box 360 was for.

But now that it runs on my computer I'll play it there because I  cheat codes. I'll be damned if I'm running to shady sam to buy lockpicks when I can just load a skeleton key with a neato code. And make myself very rich, and advance to the next quest objective...

What with Gamefly memberships, it's still the cheapest hobby I can manage. AND I can do it while working.

When I go on jewelry making binges or crafting binges where I want to buy organic wool to knit with, or make a million candles with beeswax, now THAT is expensive. It's safest for me in the game world where I can craft pretend stuff cheaply. Trying to craft real stuff, from soap to perfume to jewelry to clothes, escalates quickly into Michael's Crafts or Joann's Fabrics making a lot of money off of me. Although I can always gather pine needles from the back yard and weave baskets out of 'em when I'm jonesing for doing something with my hands. And now that I got my kitchen in order, I can always cook. But my son starts to bitch about all the dishes he has to wash. Nobody complains about the mess when I play.

I'm all about Guitar Hero 5 right now! Loving playing Bush and White Stripes.

Also cracked Bioshock out the other day after finding a gaming Wiki for it and read the backstory, its very complicated but I love it.

Okay, FINALLY getting flying mounts. Only...um...about 10,000 gold or so to go before everybody's up in the air in Northrend.

Wheeee!

So do Outland flying mounts only work in Outland then? You gotta buy Northrend Brand flying mounts to fly out there? Or are they just cooler? *cough*accidental pun*cough*

So do Outland flying mounts only work in Outland then? You gotta buy Northrend Brand flying mounts to fly out there? Or are they just cooler? *cough*accidental pun*cough*

My understanding with all the changes is that you can buy a flying mount at level 60 now and can tool around Outland with that.

This part's a little hazy, so someone correct me if I'm wrong, I just checked on the "bind to account" tome today. I think I've read that you can't buy Cold Weather Flying until you're level 77, and that costs 1000 gold. THEN once one of your characters has gotten to level 77, you can buy the "bind to account" tome and send it to another character, who can use it at level 68.

So right now I have three characters that can fly in Outland, but none of them are able to fly in Northrend yet. I need to buy the skill tome and mail it to my druid before my druid can use her flying form in Northrend. Then start buying more mounts and skill at about 1700 per character.

You don't have to buy a new mount, but you have to buy a new skill to fly in Northrend. So the mount's the same. They do sell "exotic" epic mounts in Dalaran which might or might not be cooler...5000 for epic riding isn't in my budget yet, so I haven't gone window shopping. My husband has a drop epic protodrake and he says it's faster to just fly directly somewhere now rather than take the griffin flights, so that's good. It's a drop from a heroic dungeon instance and drops pretty often, so once you hit 80, epic mount isn't hard, it's buying the skill for 5K that's hard (at least for a trade addict like me. I'd much rather have several stacks of metal or leather or herbs than a mount...so far) But I think it's pretty essential in Northrend to have the flying skill. Daily quests become a grind at 80 without a flying mount.

I did discover that in K2 there's a "loaned griffin mount" that you can use in Storm Peaks, Sholazar Basin and Icecrown that's free. So if my 80 sticks to those zones, I have a free flying mount. Unfortunately that's not really my plan, because I still do cooking and fishing daily quests and such that involve flying out to glaciers and irritations like that. And I'm also a completionist who is working her way through the areas in order and getting the quest and exploration achievements, and I'm not even done with Grizzly Hills yet.

So I think that answered it. The mount's the same, you just can't ride it in Northrend without at least one character level 77 and 1000 gold to buy it for themselves or another character on that account. There's no faction discount either. The 1000 for Cold Weather Flying and 5000 for Epic Mount costs aren't going down.

I didnt even know this thread existed, thanks for bumping, now I will read it from the start :)

I dont play WoW anymore but I hope I can still come and chat here from time to time...

Welcome :)

Well, there's so many games in the world.

Right now I've got EQ, EQII, Warcraft, and chipping away at finishing the PS2 version of Wizardry. I made it past the damned graveyard puzzle for the first time without shutting the game down and sending it back to Gamefly in disgust. Go me!

So I'm going to get my flying mount only to not be able to ride it once I get to northrend. That blows.

Yes, there are so many games but sadly I cant seem to be able to find my "perfect" one.
I started with AO 6 years ago and I always go back to it after trying new ones, its old but good still. Otherwise, WoW, AoC, LotRO and lately TCoS....... I fell in love with the last one but the game is dying now and I should move on.

I was hoping to find someone to play with (and "play" with) here on Lit, but however fun conversations I had with different people so far there seem to be very small number of actual gamers here :)
