Gardening: Plants, Flowers, Veggies, Trees and All Things Green

This thing is LOADED with bloom this year, probably the most I ever seen.Luckily the cold weather the last couple weeks didn't get them it got down to 25 a few nights.Cold weather did get my golden raintree but it's releafing and should be ok it blooms in June.

I just upload my pics on Imgur and copy/paste them here if that helps. :)
Well, I just went on and it doesn’t allow me to do anything unless I go to an app. Am I missing something? Normally, you get to choose stay on the web or go to an app.

Hosta, daylilies, vinca, sedum, peonies, widow’s tears are just starting to come up in SW PA. Hibiscus won’t start showing until May. I planted elephant garlic in Oct. Some of it died over the winter as expected. But, some of the foliage is still green. I’m not sure what will happen with those that did not die off.
Was just in that area. Wanted to buy woodland in centeal PA almost in MD. Gorgeous part of the world.

When the hosta and peonies come up, post some pics. Are your day Lillie’s starting to come out of the ground yet?

Yes, both the hosta and peonies are starting to come up. I’ll post pics when they are up completely,

Interesting! It look like scilla, but we never planted any, and I know it’s not native to the north east

What are widows tears?

What are widows tears?
Spotted Widow's Tears is a mound-forming perennial native to Mexico in the spiderwort family. The attractive gray-green leaves are broadly lance-shaped and purple-spotted with wiry, purple stems bearing mauve to lavender three-petaled flowers from summer into autumn.

When they bloom I’ll take a pic and post it.

Yes, would love to see them. Do you know how to post pics from your phone? I have my daisies, hibiscus, and hydrangeas but can’t post them 😞

I only post from my iPad using my tumblr account. Sorry I can’t help.

My Mom loved grape hyacinth and what is the pink, magnolia?

Yes, pink magnolia. Someone nearby us has a yellow magnolia. It’s spectacular.

Took my moms to NYC yesterday for Easter. The Central Park gardens are in full bloom. In front of the second pic, are clusters of grape hyacinth. (we’ve also found random ones growing in the middle of the woods on our farm.)

I have another month before I can even think of planting. Maters, taters, green beans, squash, kale, peppers are a few of what I am wanting to plant.

I’m in jersey. The rule of thumb here is to plant warm weather stuff (corn, tomatoes, sunflowers, pumpkins, squash, etc) is to plant on or just after Mother’s Day. We’ve had hard freezes after MD before but it’s pretty unusual - maybe 2x in 15 yrs.

My terrace arugula bolted a couple months ago and will not stop growing! It's my first time growing it and I can't figure out how to harvest the seeds and replant. Help!!!
We grow a few different varieties of lettuce: romaine, lola rossa (red) and one other kind. We grow them all year round with grow lights, but we harvest them before they ever get to seed.

I don’t know much about how to harvest the seed for new growth in arugula, (or any other lettuce) as we always buy lettuce seed.

We always plant some outside too and have had problems with bolting. Mostly it just gets too warm… it’s a cold weather crop.

This article is really informative, Altho it doesn’t get to your question. https://www.tinygardenhabit.com/arugula-bolting-what-can-you-do/

This article has good info on how to harvest the seeds tho:

I wish I had a better answer and/or personal experience. Good luck!!
