Gas has always been expensive in California. But they also have real air pollution issues that other states don't have. Anyone remember the yellow haze over Los Angeles in the 1970s? That's not caused by being a "Blue State" or by "Liberals" but by people of ALL political persuasions burning fossil fuels at the same time. Shutting down the refineries? Not a good idea, but they also have health issues there that other states don't have. Cancer rates near Richmond and Vallejo (for example) are off the charts compared to other areas not located near a refinery.

Someone doesn't know squat about California.

For your information, the current AQMD in some areas is so unrealistic had California NEVER had any population the air quality still wouldn't come within the AQMD level. The natural offgassing from oil seeps and tar pits is more than what is "allowed."

And of course, trying to compare pre-smog control levels of pollution to today's gasoline prices is kinda ridiculously attempting to compare apples to sour grapes.

$3/gal would be a godsend when you consider how much of it is taxes instead of product cost. Be glad you're living in a Red State.
