GeeBee Tech Support thread - pose questions, get answers

Yes.

Thru the USB-wifi adapter. I know this because when I try the IP 192.168.0.1 with the Ethernet network connection (under Network Connections) enabled but the wi-fi connection disabled I get a a page load error message but when I try the same IP with the Ethernet connection disabled and wi-fi one enabled it works. the D-link page loads.

The adapter transmits and receives signals from the aforementioned WAP.

I know, but I would like my PC to switch between them as needed.

Yes, I can connect to the Internet thru the WAP. It communicates okay except when I type the WAP's IP into an address bar and hit enter, then nothing happens. I'm still trying to configure the WAP.

I can see the WAP's current IP when I type ipconfig in the DOS prompt, so I know I have that correct.

Kudos for recreating the tech support process with 100% authenticity.

And the router, switch, and PC are all Gigabit Ethernet connections (not 100Base-T)? The reason for asking is that terminal equipment transmits on pins 1&2, receives on 3&6, while routers and hubs transmit on 3&6 and receive on 1&2. Some 100Base-T units aren't auto-switching, so you might need a crossover cable to connect a router to a switch, for example.

The wired connection which ought to work doesn't work and the wireless connection that shouldn't work does. That sounds like two miracles to me. Maybe it's time to think about contacting the Vatican? If we can't make this work, sainthood might be a reasonable alternative.

There are question marks about who's got what number with which configuration, so do these things:

1) Through the PC, bring up the D-Link setup page and go to the DHCP tab. At the bottom of the page it should say "Dynamic DHCP Client List" with a list of hosts, IPs, and associated MAC addresses. C&P that whole thing into a post or PM it to me.

2) Close that out, go to a command prompt and enter "ipconfig /all" - C&P the entire output into a post or PM.

3) Go to Network Connections, disable the USB Wi-Fi interface, and enable the Ethernet interface. Turn the machine off. Unplug the USB Wi-Fi adapter, plug the Ethernet interface directly into the router (bypassing the switch), and restart the machine.

4) After it reboots, go to a command prompt and enter "ipconfig /all" again. C&P the entire output of that into a post or PM.

5) Try accessing the D-Link setup page just to verify it's not working. And, lastly, try loading http://192.168.100.1 to see if you can access the cable modem.

Pro Tip

I've found that 99.999% of computer problems can be solved by rebooting.

If that doesn't work, there's always duct tape.

The real problem is knowing which boots to use. Some problems can be solved with a cute pair of galoshes while others may require something a bit more substantial like a pair of cowboy boots. For some computers, extreme measures are called for. In those rare cases, nothing else but steel-toed motorcycle boots will do.

I live to serve.

The PC and router are both 10/100/1000Mbps. The switch is 10/100.

Bless you, my child.

I don't know if this counts, but does anyone have a browser extension they like for preventing audio on auto-play videos/ads? I HATE that! Even worse when you have a zillion tabs open and can't figure out which one is shrieking at you.

In exchange, a gmail tip: they don't recognize periods as characters or anything after a "+," so you can make easy email aliases and track down which sites are selling your email to third party advertisers. IGiveGreatBlowjobs@gmail.com = I.Give.Great.Blowjobs@gmail.com = IGiveGreatBlowjobs+nobutreally@gmail.com

Link me to a site that plays audio/video automatically for you.

Also, what browser do you use?

I don't know of a browser extension for that, but if you're using Firefox, you can kill the process "plugin-container.exe" which is how it runs Flash, and everything that depends on the Flash player will stop.

You're cute with your brute-force approach to her problem.
I'm cute? Well, thanks... I guess.

I prefer my way, but different strokes for different folks...

So where were you with this information yesterday? You can't start a thread like this and then just skip out on people who need your help, you know.

As you clearly saw, I was here and attempting to help.

But because of her lack of response and your brute-force fix, I had to go next-level on both your asses.

Don't ever make me to that again. You won't like it.

Iman, I'm too hot to fix my pc.

Come do it for me.

Heh

For clarification purposes, are you too attractive to fix your own PC or are you too attractive to fix your own PC and the ambient temps make it uncomfortable to exert any motion?

I'm gonna ignore the meanie head.

And Iman, I was referring only to the temp, I prefer the room to feel like a freezer when I work on machines.

Yes. That's true.

What I'm saying is that "next-level" ought to have been the starting point. This isn't Comcast, where first you have to talk to someone who makes you jump through a dozen hoops restarting the modem, router, PC, coffee maker, clothes dryer, and so on before they let you talk to the person that can fix the problem in 30 seconds.

Don't ever make me to that again. You won't like it.
I think we'll just have to wait and see on that. I like a lot of things that most people don't.

Yes. That's true.

You know it.

This is free tech support.

You get what you get and like it.

LTR is the only other person I know who is into My Little Pony-play. You should speak with her.

The only good tech support is free. If you have to pay, they make more money the longer it takes.

I dunno. She had her druthers for tech help, and picked you. Clearly she would prefer your sissified "refined approach" to my manly brute force methods.

Besides, she might have Sean-cooties.
