For you Trekkies...some numbers...
- Speed of light - 186,000 miles per second, or 0.671 trillion miles per hour
- Warp 1 = the speed of light
- Full impulse speed = 0.25 the speed of light
- 1 parsec = 3.1 light years
- To calculate warp speed numbers above 1, it is the warp number cubed. So warp 3 = 3X3X3, or 27 times the speed of light.
- In the Milky Way, the average distance between stars is ~ 4.5 light years. At warp 3, that means it would take 60 days to go from a star to another. That's why they travel at higher warp speeds for longer distances. At warp 6, it would take just over 7.5 days.
