I don't know what make and model my parents had when I was a kid, but this looks like the station wagons we had.
A yellow and a green one.
Full family of seven going to grandma's.

My cousins had a wagon like that for the 8 kids, 2 parents, & 2 medium sized dogs - Virginia to New Hampshire

My parents had a full size van with a bed my dad built in the back. 2 kids, 2 parents, & 2 grandparents. Sometimes 2 little dogs. My cousins were so jealous

lol, In the years after the station wagons, we also had a full sized van.
That's just how things were done in big families in the years before SUVs, and I don't think a standard SUV these days could still match the human capacity of a full sized van.
As a full family unit, my mother referred to us as troops.
