I honestly never thought about whether my username was gender-specific. I will see what a person posts to generally determine......if I want to know bad enough.

Here's my take on it:

The gender neutral allows some to explore a wider range of sexuality with a wider range of people. This site is largely about fantasy. Some don't want to make multiple profiles, but want to experience a multi-dimensional sex fantasy. They leave it to the other part to define the sex they want, and live into the other person's fantasy. With one partner, they're a guy, with another a girl, and a third person finds them to be a transgender.

My opinion: What's wrong with that? I doubt if you'd find 1 in 100 users on Lit who represent themselves honestly, so why discriminate against one type of lie-by-omission, while accepting the direct, explicit lies of others?

Screenames are usually just interests, hobbies, something personal, or just random words picked because you couldn't think of anything decent when you registered.

I have a gender neutral name - but gave no real though to it as I created the account.
Made it opbvious in my profile that I am Male though and will have a male avatar at some point.

When I made my account I made it to be as close to my yahoo id as I can.....also cause I love beef, hell any meat for that matter....other than reptiles (have to draw the line somewhere). As for why I didnt have male or female in my profile.....well made it mainly to be a lurker. Very rarely PM others for solicitation.

Heh had a guy who once send me 4 pms (walls of text killed my eyes) that were pretty much story length. Checked a few days later and message him saying his effort was wasted cause am a guy.

He got pissed and said I misleaded him with the name. How desperate must a person me to just send someone random PM, let me rephrase PMs that are story lengths, by just seeing the name and not even bothering to find out. Cause am pretty sure even if I didnt mention it in my profile (as I said here to be a lurker mostly) it should be obvious that am a guy from earlier posts.

I didn't really think about gender when creating my username. Though I have gotten PMs from trolling perverts who think I'm female. My Username is just a creative expression of how I feel about myself. I don't really think of a user name as an indication of gender anyways.

When I receive a PM from someone I look at their profile and recent posts to determine not only gender but personality to see if I think we'd get along.
