'Gender Neutral' usernames

I didn't intend to create a gender neutral name, just used my nickname but it's becoming readily apparent how gender neutral it is. 0_o

This is the username I use on many websites.
I'll happily tell people that I am a male if they ask though.

Agreed. Mine just happens to be gender neutral. If someone wants to know my gender, it's been clearly posted in my biography since I had my account. They can look there.

I also agree that people who give no indication at all are typically up to no good, and avoid them. Posting no gender anywhere is an easy way for me to realize someone has 0 credibility.

Gee, thanks. Apparently I'm now considered up to no good because I chose a neutral name. I guess everyone who doesn't come out and explicitly state if they are M of F are nefarious individuals and should be treated as such. Much in the same way employers consider you hiding something if you don't have a Facebook account.

There are very legitimate reasons to have a neutral name and the ladies on here can attest to one of them.

I didn't really think about it either. Being new I just tried to think of something unusual that not everyone would have.

Why do people create a username that gives no indication if they are male or female?
Even in their profile and avatar, some give no hint if they are male or female.

Is that intentional?

If so, why?

I have always used Sienna for three reasons... (a) It is my grandmother's real first name and a traditional family name for girls in Italy where she came from.
(b) It has always been my nickname on chat since I was 18, and (c) It is my author name for my stories.

In the time I have been using it, it has become more of a female name instead of the "neutral" name of a colour thanks to the actress Sienna Miller and of course myself

Full Disclosure:
I'm male, I have a penis, and up to this point in my life and to the foreseeable future, my preference is to use it exclusively with female humans.

After crawling through this thread I have noticed one consistent theme through three pages; those who are suggesting that users should have their gender upfront and centre (as it were), seem to be of the mindset that other members owe them this service. I'm sorry, but I guess I missed that paragraph in the registration FAQ.

What happens in the case where the member is GLBT? Is that disclosure mandatory? There seems to be a number of comments that can be summarized as, "your gender (not necessarily how you identify) is important for my purposes". I'm sorry, but IMHO that is boderline selfish.

My gender is in my profile, and if I'm posting or sending a PM where I [/I]think the recipient will benefit further from disclosure of my sex and orientation, I will provide it despite the fact it is in my profile. I fully accept that reading anything I write here is done on a voluntary basis.

Despite all that, I do intend to flesh out my bio someday, and add an appropriate avatar, but I certainly understand why a lot of people don't. Due to my non-Lit. life, there won't be much more in terms "pieces of the puzzle" anyway.

Perhaps I should start a thread looking for avatar suggestions, or maybe even a poll (pole, lol).
