Thanks for helping pack my parachute

Charles Plumb was a US Navy jet pilot in Vietnam. After 75 combat missions, his plane was destroyed by a surface-to-air missile. Plumb ejected and parachuted into enemy hands. He was captured and spent 6 years in a communist Vietnamese prison. He survived the ordeal and now lectures on lessons learned from that experience!

One day, when Plumb and his wife were sitting in a restaurant, a man at another table came up and said, "You're Plumb! You flew jet fighters in Vietnam from the aircraft carrier Kitty Hawk. You were shot down!"

“How in the world did you know that?" asked Plumb. "I packed your parachute," the man replied. Plumb gasped in surprise and gratitude. The man pumped his hand and said, "I guess it worked !" Plumb assured him, "It sure did. If your chute hadn't worked, I wouldn't be here today."

Plumb couldn't sleep that night, thinking about that man. Plumb says, "I kept wondering what he had looked like in a Navy uniform: a white hat; a bib in the back; and bell-bottom trousers. I wonder how many times I might have seen him and not even said 'Good morning, how are you?' or anything because, you see, I was a fighter pilot and he was just a sailor." Plumb thought of the many hours the sailor had spent at a long wooden table in the bowels of the ship, carefully weaving the shrouds and folding the silks of each chute, holding in his hands each time the fate of
someone he didn't know.

Now, Plumb asks his audience, "Who's packing your parachute?" Everyone has someone who provides what they need to make it through the day. He also points out that he needed many kinds of parachutes when his plane was shot down over enemy territory -- he needed his physical parachute, his mental parachute, his emotional parachute, and his spiritual parachute. He called on all these supports before reaching safety.

Sometimes in the daily challenges that life gives us, we miss what is really important. We may fail to say hello, please, or thank you, congratulate someone on something wonderful that has happened to them, give a compliment, or just do something nice for no reason. As you go through this week, this month, this year, recognize people who pack your parachutes.

Nice Smile!

On such a cold, cloudy and windy day, your smile sure does go a long way towards brightening things up.

Captain Kangaroo passed away on January 23, 2004 as age 76 , which is odd,
because he always looked to be 76. (DOB: 6/27/27.) You may find the
following story interesting.

Some people have been a bit offended that the actor, Lee Marvin, is buried
in a grave alongside 3 and 4 star generals at Arlington National Cemetery.
His marker gives his name, rank (PVT) and service (USMC). Nothing else.
Here's a guy who was only a famous movie star who served his time, why the
heck does he rate burial with these guys? Well, following is the amazing
answer: I always liked Lee Marvin, but didn't know the extent of his Corps
experiences. In a time when many Hollywood stars served their country in
the armed forces often in rear-echelon posts where they were carefully
protected, only to be trotted out to perform for the cameras in war bond
promotions, Lee Marvin was a genuine hero. He won the Navy Cross at Iwo
Jima. There is only one higher Naval award... the Medal Of Honor. If that
is a surprising comment on the true character of the man, he credits his
sergeant with an even greater show of bravery. Dialog from "The Tonight
Show with Johnny Carson": His guest was Lee Marvin.

Johnny said, "Lee, I'll bet a lot of people are unaware that you were a
Marine in the initial landing at Iwo Jima... and that during the course of
that action you earned the Navy Cross and were severely wounded." "Yeah,
yeah... I got shot square in the ass and they gave me the Cross for securing
a hot spot about halfway up Suribachi...bad thing about getting shot up on a
mountain is guys gettin' shot hauling you down. But, Johnny, at Iwo I
served under the bravest man I ever knew... We both got the cross the same
day, but what he did for his Cross made mine look cheap in comparison.
That dumb bastard actually stood up on Red beach and directed his troops to
move forward and get the hell off the beach. Bullets flying by, with mortar
rounds landing everywhere and he stood there as the main target of gunfire
so that he could get his men to safety. He did this on more than one
occasion because his men's safety was more important than his own life.
That Sergeant and I have been lifelong friends. When they brought me off
Suribachi we passed the Sergeant and he lit a smoke and passed it to me,
lying on my belly on the litter and said, where'd they get you Lee?' "Well
Bob... if you make it home before me, tell Mom to sell the outhouse!"
Johnny, I'm not lying...Sergeant Keeshan was the bravest man I ever
knew.....

The Sergeant's name is Bob Keeshan... You and the world know him as Captain
Kangaroo."

On another note, there was this wimpy little man (who just passed away) on
PBS, gentle and quiet.

Mr. Rogers is another of those you would least suspect of being anything but
what he now portrays to our youth. But Mr. Rogers was a U.S. Navy Seal,
combat-proven in Vietnam with over twenty-five confirmed kills to his name.
He wore a long-sleeved sweater on TV, to cover the many tattoos on his
forearm and biceps. He was a master in small arms and hand-to-hand combat,
able to disarm or kill in a heartbeat. After the war Mr. Rogers became an
ordained Presbyterian minister and therefore a pacifist. Vowing to never
harm another human and also dedicating the rest of his life to trying to
help lead children on the right path in life. He hid away the tattoos and
his past life and won our hearts with his quiet wit and charm.

America's real heroes don't flaunt what they did; they quietly go about
their day-to-day lives, doing what they do best. They earned our respect and
the freedoms that we all enjoy. Look around and see if you can find one of
those heroes in your midst. Often, they are the ones you'd least suspect,
but would most like to have on your side if anything ever happened.
Take the time to thank anyone that has fought for our freedom. With
encouragement they could be the next Captain Kangaroo or Mr. Rogers.

There was this fellow who worked for US Postal Service whose job it was to process all the mail that had illegible addresses. One day a letter came to his desk, addressed in a shaky handwriting to God. He thought, "Oh boy, better open this one and see what it's all about." So he opened it and read:

"Dear God:
I am an 83 year old widow living on a very small pension. Yesterday someone stole my purse. It had 100 dollars in it which was all the Money I had until my next pension check. Next week is Thanksgiving, And I had invited two of my friends over for dinner. Without that money, I have nothing to buy food with. I have no family to turn to, and you are My only hope. Can you please help me?"

The postal worker was touched, and went around showing the letter to all the others. Each of them dug into his wallet and came up with a few Dollars. By the time he made the rounds, he had collected 96 dollars, Which they put into an envelope and sent over to her. The rest of the day, all the workers felt a warm glow thinking of the nice thing they had done.

Thanksgiving came and went, and a few days later came another letter From the old lady to God. All the workers gathered around while the letter was opened.

It read, "Dear God, How can I ever thank you enough for what you did for Me? Because of your generosity, I was able to fix a lovely dinner for my Friends. We had a very nice day, and I told my friends of your wonderful Gift. By the way, there was 4 dollars missing. I think it must have been those thieving pricks at the Post Office

now i could see my son being little boy number 2 when he was in first grade lol smile ya'll :)

Two little boys in first grade were chosen to be the leads in their first school play. It was to be a Shakespearean Play. The first little boy was to say "My fair maiden.... I have come to snatch a kiss and fill your soul with hope" The second little boy was to reply by saying ,"Hark! a pistol shot!" Well on opening night in the school auditorium, the two little boys were a bit nervous, knowing that all the seats were going to be filled with grown-ups. The teacher told them to take their places on the stage and to remember to speak very loud as soon as the curtain goes up. Well, the curtain rose and looking out upon the audience the two boys were >terrified. They stood there frozen. So the teacher whispered for them to begin. And so the first boy yelled out these unforgettable words................."My fair maiden....I have come to kiss a snatch!... and fill your hole with soap." The second boy screams out..."Hark! a shistol pot, a postle shit, a pot of shit------ oh, horse shit, cow shit, bull shit, holy shit, I never wanted to be in this lousy play anyway..." The audience left howling....although the two boys' parents were a bit traumatized.

Good morning all!!

Bama, DA, I guess we will have to split up. One of us go one way and the other go another way. That is unless you would like to meet in the middle for one big snuggle:D

Bama,

We would love for you to be in the middle. We can't think of anything that could be more fun than keeping you warm;)
