Get a tattoo.......trust me on that.

I like the idea of family or ownership tattoos. My honey and I have thought about getting tattoos on/about our wedding day, that simply say "Hers" and "His". I like that. But we'll see.

As to marking.. I've become really REALLY interested in branding. I don't mean that hot metal thing you leave in the fire, I mean a new form of branding that's come about... using a pin-point-fine blowtorch, the person can draw whatever you like on you.. it's supposed to hurt about as much as a tattoo.. and when you're done, and healed, you're left with just a scar. Some people's scars colour slightly, other people just have the scarred design on their skin. I REALLY love that idea... so I'm considering it very seriously.

That method has been around for quite awhile and I researched both options a couple of years ago. From memory there are pros and cons for both depending on people involved and desired outcomes. Might have more of what I found in our branding thread....know it is somewhere in the postings.

*nods* I first read about this method about 3 years ago, and have been obsessed, though too chicken, for that time.

Thanks, I'll go take a look.

The side of your wrist, your elbow, your hipbone, and the very bottom of your spine are supposed to hurt quite a bit.

I stopped believing what anyone else says is supposed to hurt cuz everyone has something different to say, LOL. I was told before I got into tats that ankles and certain areas on my back were supposed to be really painful and neither were. I think it differs completely for everyone.

I'm not really into tatoos.

Recently while at the pool at a Las Vegas pool frequented by 20somethings and 30somethings, it became apparent that those with completely virgin skin, free of tatoos and piercings, were in the minority. Funny to think that it's going to be the rarity, the "different" look soon -- completely natural.

I have a little tatoo that I got on a whim, but I still love it, it's a flaming heart on my left front shoulder. The next ones I want to get will be original works. One is a yinyan of a Great White shark and an Orca, I've got it drawn out, but I've lost the copies of the pic, the original is in CA. That will go on my lower back. Then I'm going to get my sons name done in either old Irish writing or Ogham. The ogham would go on the left side of my back, it's read from bottom to top. The old Irish would go, probably about the same spot, then next to either of them the date he was born.
I love piercings and tatoos, yeah it hurts, yeah the healing process is a bitch, but damn it looks good, and it's neat to have marks on my body that are specifically mine, someone else may have a navel ring, but only mine looks like mine, ect. My body is my temple, and I like to decorate it!

I'm free of tattoos and ALL piercings. I don't even have my ears pierced.

I get complimented on being "all natural" quite often. :)

An "ownership" tat is the only one I ever want to get. I think having only that one will make it all the more special.

Course, that is years away, at best.

Amen :) I agree, although I am starting to get addicted to them. It is like giving candy to a child, pain to a masochist...oooo shivers...it is soooo nice when they do them. It kinda tickles. By the by, my pics are in my siggy for those I haven't bored yet. :)

Long before I heard the term "ownership tattoo" or even knew much about BDSM in general, I had this idea for family tattoos. I thought how much I would like for my mate and I to design similar tattoos for each of us that incorporated his family crest/coat-of-arms (if he has one) and then when we have children, start a family tradition of the children getting the family mark on, say, their 18th birthday. Or hell, even their 16th, if they wanted it and we could get someone to do it. I mean, it would be a tradition, not just some passing fancy.

I would like to get my eventual tat on either my lower back or the nape of my neck. I don't really like the look of armbands on girls, but I think it looks great on guys. That's why I figured the tat would come in two versions, a male and a female.. it would be a wrap-around version for the males (armbands) and something smaller and more delicate looking for the females. Of course, everyone in the family can decide to get the tat whever they wanted, not limited to armbands or the areas I want for myself.

Wow I love the idea of a family tat -- that is both unique, meaningful and innovative!

My family was looking at doing a family tat with the ogham, which is where I got the idea for my son. It's good my parents never followed through with the idea, they got divorced a couple years later.

Yay! A girl who has no piercings or tats.

God made women beautiful. Piercers or tattoo artists can't improve on it, in my humble opinion.

well, if someone is icky looking, a piercer or tattoo artist won't be able to help, some people are hopeless, unless they get sleeves. People with sleeves are always hot. Even if they're not hot, sleeves automatically put them in the attractive box. However, for some people, a piercing or a tattoo can make them go from "ok" to "do me now." Well, actually, the unable to make them hot thing isn't always true. I knew this girl, and she was just.....blah. And then she got a monroe and oh my goodness.

I find most sleeves *very* unattractive on people for some reason. I love the look of a well-placed tat, but there's something about full arms of color that looks tacky and white-trash to me (usually.)

Oh well, diff'rent strokes for diff'rent folks, as they say.

Edited to say: Tribal patterns (like Maori) are an exception to that sleeve rule I have. Some of those can be very hot. I would still prefer half or 3/4 to a full sleeve, but that's just my personal taste.

I agree. Normally people who have their who arm, or body, tattooed just gross me out. (Like Tommy Lee - ick.) But my ex roommate was half Samoan and he has the coolest tattoo's on his arms. I didn't like them till he explained the background to them, and now whenever I see them I think of the history. Like I said, way cool.

LOL I know a lot of people think that Tommy Lee is sexy, but I never have. He makes my skin crawl. *shrugs* To each their own, I guess.

L* That's exaclty what I thought when mine was getting done. It didn't hurt so much as it tickled, and I definitely want another.

As for my pet, she seems well interested in getting her nipples pierced from the same place (YAY!!!!). so that gives me an excuse to get another tat as well. :D

PS: I really have to shout out YAY!!!! again. Pierced nipples are my major turn-on.

Me and K were gonna do that (to me) but the whole piercing thread worried us, so now I gotta run it by my doctor, and I really don't want any of my medical people to know. *sigh*

Dude tell her to get criss-crossed nipple piercings. Ridiculously drool inducing.

Ahhh he makes my face melt. I want to have his hepatitis c filled babies.

pain?

tats..love them..I have been ink addicted since my first, and have restricted myself to commemorating milestones in my life. So far so good.
The pain issue is so personal. After a couple of 2 hour tattoos, which were really easy...Shoulder blade and arm band, I thought I was ready for my first 4 hour sit. With the first line I was suffering really badly. And it hurt for days after. A friend had a large black tribal in exactly the same spot ( lower back up to kidneys) and breezed thru.
My largest covers my first and that was 8 hours over 8 weeks. The first 2 sessions were easy, the last 2 were so cruel.
My eyeliner tattoo was easy on my right eye, agony on my left..go figure.
Mental attitude has a lot to do with it.If you are stressed or tired it seems to be ten times worse.
'Clean skin' is the term for folk who arent tattooed...yet...
I like the full sleeve,or even body suit look on guys, but only if its well done and thought out. Not just a casual mix of different pictures and styles with shading to fill the gaps.
I love symbols and text but not trade marks of any kind.
Like my b/f has "lest we forget" with the southern cross behind it.
When you can ask someone what their tattoo means and they can give you an intelligent answer...That's cool.

All this reminds me of a kinda funny story. My best friends brother has been dating this one chick off and on for a while. She has this really cool dragon tattoo on her right leg. I forget why she got it, she told me once. But one day I mentioned her tattoo, and my best friend was like 'tattoo?' I was said 'yeah, why do you think Mik calls her 'dragon lady'? M's response isn't repeatable (she does not like her), but it was still funny.

When I had my consult to touch up my first tattoo, I saw the tattoist write "re do old dragon" in their appointment book. I said jokingly I didnt like the inference..and she laughed but crossed it out and wrote "cover up" instead.
