Good Erotic Movies

So no one has seen The Pillow Book? I ask because I'm a non-renter (a non-returner eventually has to swear off renting) so when I see a movie that isn't in the theaters and isn't owned by a friend, I have to buy it. I hate committing to one that's billed as erotica if none of you pornsters have seen it.

I will look it up on the Blockbuster's website, and if the description appeals, I will rent it just for you and get back to you on it. It will be like my homework assignment.

And no, I will not call you "Mistress." :D

Thank you. That would sever my connection with reality.

Luckster, I'll go check the start of the thread. There are probably half a dozen reviews of The Pillow Book and I probably read them in my sleep.

The first ten minutes of 'Dressed to Kill' (Brian DePalma).

Embrace of the Vampire / Alyssa Milano (a guilty pleasure I admit).

The Incredibly True Adventures Of Two Girls In Love

Sea of Love / Ellen Barkin

Voyage en Douce / Geraldine Chaplin, Dominque Sanda

Caged Heat/ or anything else with Rainbeaux Smith

but in the end there is nothing more erotic than when Ingrid Bergman looks at Bogie with those dewy eyes in Casablanca.

I Googled the movie with the gorgeous 16th century India setting that I remembered earlier:

Kama Sutra: A Tale of Love

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/t...ref=sr_1_1/102-9851223-7853708?v=glance&s=dvd

Worth seeing for the exotic setting, beautiful men and women, and soundtrack. I read somewhere that the DVD of the Russian version with English subtitles is uncut, and the version released in the U.S. was edited to an R rating for theater release. If I knew that for sure, I'd look for the out-of-stock Russian version to see if there's a bit of payoff for all the foreplay.

OMG!! Whatever you do, do NOT rent the second part to that flick. They try to turn it into a low budget mafia car chase with really bad acting.

EDIT to add: I think the girl from the first one is also the girl who starred in "Alexander,' claiming it was the first time she had EVER done a nude scene. What a little liar.

I've never heard anyone else mention that movie! I loved it. *sigh* It was an awkward theater experience, though. Watching it with my friends (I was about 18 or so, IIRC) trying like hell not to show how much it turned me on and spending the rest of the night blushing like a fool whenever the object of my (silent) affection spoke to me. ;)

A 16th century car chase? Cool!

Are we talking about the same movie? I didn't know there was a sequel.

I wonder how many other 18 year old girls were trying not to show how much it turned them on.

I loved The Avengers with Patrick McNee and Diana Rigg, mostly the episodes with bondage - which would be most of the episodes. I always avoided watching it with anyone in my family. I was afraid they'd know why I liked it so much.

Someone was always being tied to a railroad track or kidnapped by evil scientists. Thank God the show was also stylish and funny; I was able to convince myself that I watched it for those reasons.

They tried to put a modern day spin on it by writing the main characters as reincarnates of the lovers from the first one.

Here is a link that provides a brief summary of this 1998 slice of fromage, "Tales of the Kama Sutra 2: Monsoon." http://movies.yahoo.com/shop?d=hv&id=1804893889&cf=info&intl=us

(Peeeeehhheeew! Don't say I didn't warn you.)

'Matador' was pretty passionate too, as I recall.
Watch out for that hatpin!

Most of the movies mentioned so far have one thing in common: they're "erotic". Which is why they don't even come near a good porn flick for raw sexuality.

And I've finally found the definition of an "erotic" movie: A lame porn flick which you can admit to having seen, in intellectual circles.

Thought of another one. 'Desert Hearts' with Helen Shaver and Denise Charbennau.

Nice little flick about coming out in the '50s.

I disagree. I think "erotic" more about tension, character, and buildup, and porn more about "let's get right to the insertion shots." As the latter don't do much for me on their own, I tend to prefer erotic. I live in hope that someone will combine erotic plotting and tension with a bit more explicit sex, but I think I wait in vain. The porn industry itself has pretty much killed the chances of that happening. It's such a by-word for bad acting and lame production values that no one is willing to pour the millions it takes to make a really good movie into something that will only draw a small audience - and porn, on the whole, has a small audience due to the heavy saturation of cheap amatuer material and the general lack of any real box ofice opening.

a plug for Valmont**. not enough mention here of the erotic movies with depraved characters, though I second yui's motion for Quills.

haven't read the entire thread, but did Tokyo Decadence come up? (innocent looking maiden of cold blood and corrupt occupation). reminds me of the young Japanese lead (what name?) in Kill Bill.

PS Do not remember 'Cook, thief, ...etc.' to have any erotic value.

**Memory plays tricks. Perhaps 'Dangerous Liaisons' [same story, differently adapted] , with Malkovitch and Pfeiffer is better (darker).

Yes, nice flick. It was Patricia Charbonneau though. I only know this because of lusting for her.

Alas, per IMDB she hasn't been in anything since 1999.

The problem with erotic films is that they're all foreplay.

My problem with porn films is there's no foreplay. (No buildup of sexual tension, which requires actors.)

Granted, we get to see the male lead's unit in "The Piano," but he's Harvey Keitel. I'd have paid extra not to see him rub it across the keyboard.

So what's needed is that one of you - I nominate SubJoe - turn out to be a multimillionaire and that you privately fund a blackmarket collection of mainstream films with explicit sex scenes edited in using body doubles.

My solution is unethical and illegal, but I don't think that should stop you and SubJoe from making it happen. Consider it a public service. The rest of us will post bond.

I'm too much of a structuralist at heart. The narrative rupture would kill the buzz for me.

No, I'll just have to make a real, proper movie and coax the pretty darlings into a real sex scene. Tell them it's all artistic or something.
