I just received my first rejection when submitting a story..

Has anyone seen this before.

You appear to be using Microsoft lines as dividers. Please change these to text dividers, such as * * * * *, + + + + +, or something similar. Please keep dividers and other text strings in stories to less than 30 characters to prevent page stretching.

Save your story in plain text format and then re-open it in text mode to see what kinds of word-processer formatting codes are hiding in it. (word processer formatting codes don't save into plain text format.)

I haven't seen that specific rejection message, but I have seen numerous other problems caused by submitting in DOC or RTF format.

I always just paste it into the submission box. Makes for odd looking paragraphs but never been rejected for that reason. ;)

actually I really like doing this.

copy, paste, go through and fix whatever doesn't look right in the box, and you'll never get that message again. :catroar:

Anybody want to explain how to get italics to appear in the text box after pasting the story? Mine didn't survive after the copy/paste process.

You have to manually insert the HTML tags <I> and </I> around the iatalicized sections. It is best to tag each paragraph individualy if you have a long section of italics.

It's the same process as using Italics in your posts but using angle brackets instead of square brackets.

Thank you <I>very much</I> WH. I will try that next time. I'm just wondering if the HTML tags butt up against the <I> word </I> or if they are seperated by a space. Perhaps my question will be answered when this post appears on my screen.

Spaces inside Italics tags are displayed normally. If you separate the tags with an additional space you'll wind up with double spaces beween words, like this and not like this.

(to make italics work in the forums, you need the vB syntax, which uses [] instead of <>)

Hey, WH

I always use your "test" HTML form, paste in my text, format all my CR's and LF's, put in my own header, and submit it.
It used to work fine. But the last couple I submitted got shown with double blank lines, like Lit has a program to automatically insert them, then they double what I put in.

It DOES get shown correctly when it is posted, but I wonder if you have changed your form, or if I should change the way I submit?

Whenever I have submitted any other way, Lit changes (& screws up) the formatting to something I didn't intend.

Thanks,
MF

The "form" and procedures in my How To Essay were reverse engineered from what Lit sends to users when a story is read. There have been some changes in the main site, but I haven't noticed any differences in the basic format.

If it is showing up correctly when posted, I'd keep submitting the way you have been.
