Has "cute" gone too far?

Speaking of cuteness (or is that cuteneh?), how do you explain your present AV? And don't smack me! I'm just pointing out the obvious...or is that obviouh?

What? That's how I look in real life.

Honestly, I thought I was dealing with a mature, compassionate crowd here but no, right in on the jokes.

BL was right...immature!!!

Did anyone watch the "My Little Pony" parody linked in the VF article? That one gave me a good chuckle.

As I said, I don't have a rational explanation, at this point in time. In the VF article, the author speaks of the need (as a culture), to show "the face of dependency", and I think this has something to do with it.

...

There's nothing wrong with cute, on its own, but as a cultural trend, too much cute feels like regression to me.

...

Tee hee.

I still don't follow (but I'm curious:)). I know you said you don't have a rational explanation for it, but regression? Such as we are regressing towards our childhood?

In a sense, yes.

And yes, I realize, as a goofball who loves nothing more than a good joke, I am treading some very thin ice with this topic.

I like violent things that blow up AND I like my little fucking pony.
Are you SURE there's nothing sexist about the dismissal of cute aesthestics? Because I think there is.

Is the cute thing feminine or childlike? I thought it was the latter.

Did I mention I'm really, really, fucking cranky today?

I love cute, thought not fully in the way you describe.

I like cute animals and such, but mostly what I'm talking about when I say I like cute is women.

I'm into the short petite ones. I'd pick a cute girl over a hot chick, or curved seductress any day.

I don't know why, short, small tits, nice ass, big eyes, that's sexy.

I dunno. If you look at who likes it, I think we dislike it because it's a kid thing that's found on the desk of 45 year old women who are uncool.

Rant on, it's all good. I also think though that a lot of what he's against is intentional lameness. There's nothing *cute* about a snuggie - they're lame

Weezer has been working the intentional lameness ever since they embraced the "weerez" sign in their video.

That looked really interesting for a second.

I actually really dig babies when there's no other adult around bugging them and they're being totally themselves - it's damn *fascinating* to watch.

The minute another adult comes up and has to interact with them forget it, the moment is over.

Oh, hmm, I guess it depends on what cute stuff we're talking about. I know some young hipsters who were into the lolcats, and so I was just blindly thinking 20somethings.

Thanks. I'm in a very rant mood.

Have you seen the movie "Zombieland".? Well, there is a scene in it that is my all time fantasy - essentially taking a baseball bat to a shop full of "knick knacks".

Not sure how that relates to this topic...BUT I DON"T CARE!!

I actually find the adult interaction interesting because people project really weird shit onto babies. Like so much stuff I can't get over it.

I don't think people are into lolcats because it's oh so cute. Though I do like cats enough to find them so - I think it's more like an online game - whose caption best suits the action. The grammar of lolspeak is funny to me as an amalgm of gamer culture, net memes, and general silliness - M hates lolcats because he's convinced that talking cats would have *perfect* grammar.

I know some total cat freaks who skew the sample. And ha, they totally would!

I don't see lolcats or similar as necessarily representative of the culture of cute. Their goal many time is simply to sugarcoat witty or insulting statements under the guise of "cute". Some I LOL and some leave me meh. (See what I did there? haha)

I'll be back on the topic of cute if I can make some sensible post about it.
Somehow I never thought about it, although I do remember being totally blown away by the cute stationary I could get in Japan when I was a kid compared to the boring one my classmates had (and one of the boy chew my eraser 'cause he thought was chewing-gum ...).

Heard of Anne Geddis? The island nation of japan?

Go ahead Keroin, immerse yourself in baby-vegetable combinations.

Anne Geddis likes pumpkins, babies, and any combination of the two.

Exactly.

The ones I've seen seem to be saying, "I don't want to look like a total bitch, but I still want to say fuck you."

Ah, the dangers of cavorting among sadists.

Exactly.

I honestly didn't know what a "LOLcat" was until about two weeks ago.

Some of them seem to have the above stated purpose but others seem to be just pure saccharin.

Interestingly, I would enjoy the photo if it didn't have the words attached. It's the words that bother me.

I have no idea what the point of that is. Fun with misspellings and grammatical errors? No clue why anyone finds that cute, or amusing.

Of course, I don't get the point of NASCAR, either. No, there's no segue between the two! I'm just mentioning it so Netzach won't call me sexist. ;) There are a lot of hobbies out there that I just don't get.
