True, and probably inevitable. I doubt we'll ever get complete agreement on that.

For instance, humor can be a bone of contention. What seems pleasantly humorous to one person might seem like mean snark to another.

Actually it is far more likely that this thread was started in response to the LW 1-bomb thread where Iwrotethis abandoned his stance to personally attack and insult me repeatedly calling me stupid. I defended myself. Then the mod stepped in and made a mess. I talked to the mod, he apologized, went back and deleted some more to try to make it fair (I respect that). Then Iwrotethis continued to attack and disparage me personally. And then went even further, Iwrotethis started taking shots at me in a completely different thread. Now that's fucking petty. Somehow, this makes the two of us equal bickering cunts. No, there is only one cunt in that exchange. But no one cares to check the details, they just paint the both of us the same.

I did not abandon my stance. You tried to give different meaning to my words, and I called you out for it. You cut parts out when quoting me or claimed I said different things than what you quoted me saying. My stance remained unchanged, other than my opinion of you continuing to plummet.

Also, you were the one to bring up your stupidity, not me. I simply pointed out that, by your own words, you were the stupid you claimed you weren't, because you did what you claimed you weren't stupid enough to do.

Yes, I noticed that certain comments you made disappeared or changed, when I tried to quote them to call out more of your lies. How convenient...

Before I ever got into the discussion, a couple of other people were criticizing the BtB mentality. You started getting hot under the collar with them. At that point I prompted you for clarity on a point of your stance. Your response was to immediately start attacking me personally.

Same here.
I was a tomboy with three older brothers, growing up. We used/use snark as a part of everyday language, so my filter is probably different than others.
I don't  feel like I'm being too harsh, but harsh is subjective.

I'm all for this. I also think that most people here can recognize benign sarcasm when they see it.

But pick any thread where there's some controversial or divisive topic, and you'll see far more pure snark and mocking sarcasm. It's often done through memes and such, and it's often high-fived by other posters. Personally, if personal attacks have to happen, I prefer seeing blunt abrasiveness and name-calling over sneaky and snide comments that are so pervasive in those topics.

I've always preferred openness and honesty over fake politeness. Maybe others think differently. And this is what I mostly had in mind when I said that not everyone here has the same idea about civility.

Yes, lovecraft68 and I have some extreme philosophical differences. We'll never be friends, and I hope to never be in the same room with them, but so far we let it out and move on each time. At least, I do. I don't know what kind of long-term real estate they've given me in their head.

As to your BS claim that I immediately started attacking you personally, well, it's BS. I went back and checked. I responded directly to a comment you made. Yes, it was your comment, but that doesn't make it a personal attack.

But, that kind of dishonesty from you doesn't really surprise me. You say you don't want to extend this, but you keep doing so. You accuse me of lying for calling you out for lying. I never said you started the fight, just certain parts of it.
