Here Goes ATLANTA!

1. The shooting cop had nine hours of de-escalation training in January 2020...so much for changing a mindset.

2. I also wonder if the victim got scared that if he were cuffed he’d become another George Floyd.

Almost how I saw it.

2. Exactly. It looked almost like a PTSD-knee jerk reaction once they started cuffing him. Can you blame him for fearing Police?

1. What mindset? As awful as the incident was, the two cops were merely following protocol "cuff'em".

Some experts on NBC said that your Police protocols should adopt the "I'm here to serve & help, not punish the public" in such soft harmless situations,
like take his details for a fine & help him order an uber to get home.

I can’t tell if this is meant as a sarcastic post or not.

If so, yeah, ok.

If not, it’s chock full of wrong.

My post was not sarcastic. Please clarify if you believe resisting arrest is now considered reasonable. That's what you're implying. From what I saw on the video, the police were actually pretty good. They engaged the man respectfully and politely. They determined he was intoxicated and either had, or would be operating a motor vehicle. They were fulfilling their professional obligation. I think everyone knows that if you fight with the police, terrible things may happen. The cops are human, after all, and they reasonably assumed they were in a fight for their lives.

Did they think he was going to turn into The Hulk or something?

Did he have adamantium blades hidden in his forearms?

Why wasn't Scott Jason Orvis killed for doing the same thing, even when taking two tasers off two cops instead of one? Oh, and if you check up on that dude, he's got a history on him, so if you wanna play that "he's no angel so he was asking for it" dog-eared card...

"a fight for their lives..." If two cops are that weak, they should be polishing wooden desks at the precinct. Y'all motherfuckers loooooove this kinda shit when it pops off so you can reach for the stars with all the excuse yap.

Name the "experts." NBC has advocacy hacks, yes. Experts, no.

That's how political advocacy organizations operate. Don't fall for it.

I didn't fully understand their position, come to think about it you're right they were more blameful than I initially thought.
But trying to clarify my statements:

I don't fault the cops either, they were doing things by the book. I saw no racism.
It's the protocol they are asked to follow in all such soft situations, that seems too militaristic and flawed.

Nor do I blame the Black guy for being paranoid. I mean, those three killed Floyd in broad daylight, he was alone with them in the dark.
((which reminds me of your proposal for all-Black Police patrol in Black neighborhoods: it's starting to look more and more appropriate))

Fair enough. I was wondering if they were going to take him home and policy dictated he be cuffed in the car.

There is an alternative...

The Progressive Left has been pushing hard on the meme of the month,
'The White Police Are the Executioners of Black Men.'

With that sort of inculcation, his alcohol-soaked brain
might have reached the conclusion,
"I'm about to be lynched!"

Could be.

Occam says jail.

That's what you see happening in the street protests all over the world? A progressive left meme?

If Atlanta is eliminated where will their professional sports teams go?

Have not heard much about it.

I'm not at all implying resisting arrest is fine. I agree with the rest of your post for the most part.

....

I think driving as impaired as the victim was is an extremely serious offense.

True.

The man fell asleep in the line at Wendy's. The good people want to be protected from this behavior, and I think that is a reasonable expectation.

Also true.

The experts said, "Call an uber, call a family member, drive the guy home". Is that what we want? Are we prepared to accept bad behavior?

That's not accepting bad behavior. Protect and serve. Get the guy home and give him a ticket. Or let him sleep it off in a cell like in Mayberry.

The guy who got shot was a sociopath and did not deserve freedom.

How so? Are all drunk people sociopaths? Why does being drunk in public mean his freedom should be taken away. Have you ever been to a frat party?

He had zero respect for police. Imagine how he treats his fellow citizens.

Complete fabrication on how he treats others and there was plenty of respect all around until it went sideways.

He discharged a weapon at an officer. What if he disabled the officer and took his firearm.

A nonlethal weapon. If the drunk guy got lucky and hit the cop with the taser and disabled him and stumbled back for the gun, well, the other cop would have shot him.

Should the police have let him go if they couldn't subdue him, and pick him up later?

Yes. Maybe follow the guy at a distance to see what he does and call for backup...probably would have run to his sisters house. Or call the sister to come get him. Shooting him in the back certainly wasn't the correct solution.

If you don't think the cops should have done what they did, what should they have done in the alternative.

It was going fine until the cuffs came out. But the guy was running away when he got shot in the back, not attacking them (except for the wild taser shot).

I don't know what to say. Do you know why similar incidents have different outcomes? I wish I did. Do you think it all boils down to skin color? If you asked me, I would think not (surprise). I wouldn't give a shit about the skin color of the guy who was kicking my ass.

So what's the REAL pulse in the US like?

I got caught up in it, being myself less laid back and more politically minded

But to my surprise,
it's starting to be back to 'business as usual' with my US-based friends
and noor's take on it was interesting too:

They tried to start a race war, they did not succeed. They destroyed and burned down our businesses, but no one was killed despite the amount of non-law enforcement weaponry and tactical gear on our streets.

For those who watch TV and live on social media 24/7 the US is in a civil war.

For those with lives and jobs there are issues to deal with that rational people can figure out.

For Radical Leftists (radical Democrats, CNN, MSNBC, Black Lives Matter [communists], anarchists) the US must be destroyed

Until we get rid of Teacher's unions that protects teachers who create ignorant youth and police unions who protect bad cops, this shit will continue. I'm not saying the cop in this case is a bad cop, but they do exist and they are protected by unions and by prosecutors.

Well, public unions are a factor, for sure.

The problem with teacher's unions or any public union is that the adversarial element is missing. Public unions help install and sustain the government officeholders who negotiate their contracts. So, officeholders' jobs are literally on the line with the very same union that they are negotiating with. That's how many states have ended up with horrible, very serious pension problems that the system cannot sustain.

In a real union scenario there is the labor union opposed by management. It is an adversarial relationship. The sides barter and negotiate. When it is corrupted it is often the union leaders who become corrupted by the management side. So, sometimes, it is imperfect, too.

...police unions who protect bad cops.

Absolutely an issue. Police officers and law enforcement personnel do need an advocate and support. But the unions have made it impossible to launch the ones who should not be on the streets.

The unions use taxpayer money to lobby against the interests of the taxpayer when they contribute that money to the political campaigns of politicians who will always be beholding to those unions to advance the unions agenda, which may be more about the financial interests of teachers than the quality of their educational product.

If Orvis had been offed just like Brooks I would've felt no different. Doesn't matter to me one's melanin or anothers lesser lack of it.

No doubt why the great majority of folks, no matter their own skin color, dont go racist nuts when cops kill a Daniel Shaver or a George Floyd.

But racists like you always see a difference.

This is CORRECT.

"So many other cases?"

Name them.

If Floyd had never happened this one would have been used in its place. Justified, unjustified makes no difference to the mob that is in many cases demanding no police, no arrests, and empty jails

If you are going to be so willfully blind on this front, why should others give your opinions on other topics any credence?

Like seriously, this has been going on for decades...case after case...
"Name one other than Floyd's"....such an unsophisticated answer from one who claims to be so pansophic.... doesn't even deserve a chuckle.

Still can't answer the question....eh?

*chuckles* still can't or won't educate yourself eh?
