While they were the result of a jury verdict, the trial errors are sufficient to have them overturned on appeal because the underlying premise is not only false but it will destroy the legal system if every civil settlement can be prosecuted as a felony years afterward. Can you imagine what the legal malpractice insurers are going to do if the appeals court upholds the verdicts and makes the client criminally liable for entering into a settlement with an adverse party?

The interesting point will be when those verdicts are overturned. What will you say then? Will you still say that he was convicted of 34 felonies and just not mention the reversals?
