Nah. I was referring to the image of the Colt 1911 on the Duke's hip in a zillion movies. Daily told me he thinks that's a large part of their popularity. Makes sense to me.

I love Lugers, have since I was a little kid. I used to have a cap gun one that was my favorite thing ever. I'd love to get ahold of one. It would be a trip to take it to the range and pop cans.

Yea they don't really matter in pistols. The guy with a hand full of 40 cal's in his chest doesn't feel any different than the guy full of 9mm or 45.

Rifle caliber...that's a bit different, dose matter depending on what you want out of it.

If I had a genuine WWII Luger....I don't think I could bring myself to hardly ever shoot it except for a test to make sure it was functioning.

Well I suppose a generic standard issue one wouldn't be so prized but a cherry collectors item like the commanders edt. or w/e with the SS hand grips yea I would put it in a glass box on a shelf.

I love those gifs and yea the mechanics of them are really cool.

Look to spend between $1500 and 2K for it depending on the exact model you want. First step to go a local gun shop and ask them if they have one. Also ask about laws in your state/city/county for owning this type of weapon. Your Father will have to go with you to complete the paperwork and have a background check done. Otherwise it could be considered a straw purchase and you could go to jail.

What you are looking for is either the M1C or M1D models Garand. I believe that the Marines used the 'C' model.

For either in very good or better condition expect to pay $3,000-$4,500. And for that money make sure all the numbers match.

I have a gun shop owner that has done the transfers for me when I bought my handguns.

I realize it's going to be expensive. I'm not worried about background checks and who actually owns the gun. I live next door to care for him and if he goes anywhere other than the back of our acreage to shoot I will be with him. And we have always shared our "toys". I've a nice scar over my right eye from a .444 he handed me when I was 8 and didn't know I should not rest my eye directly on the scope....
"His favorite saying back then was hand it to her she'll shoot anything." Second favorite was "my daughter can kick your son's ass" but that's another story.

Went to a gun show yesterday, eyeballed a Rossi Ranch Hand, a sweet little 24" .357/.38 that looks like Steve McQueen's gun used in the old TV series Wanted: Dead or Alive (1958–1961)"The Rifleman."

The reviews aren't all that great... anyone have any first hand knowledge about this gun? Available here in the PNW for around $450... SRP is about $100 higher. I think I gotta have one... possible ejection problem

Never fired one, but at the GS today they had one for $450, so that might be the going price. Just a gimmick gun no practical purpose.

$439 in my neck of the woods, no tax... as much as I would like to have one... you're right, not too practical. Would be nice to stow in the camper or under the seat, but I can do that with my 686. The only advantage would be the 12" barrel.

The reason I believe so is that it’s not the easiest firearm to shoot. The stock is too short to shoot it like a rifle, and the pistol grip is almost too straight to shoot it like a traditional handgun. One can employ a sort of push/pull hold and bring the gun up like it has an imaginary stock. While this is not the most stable shooting position, I was consistently able to get hits on 16-inch steel plates out to 50 yards. With practice this might be the best option for accurately shooting a Ranch Hand off-hand.

For me, the most fun way to shoot the Ranch Hand was like it was most often used on-screen: Brace the buttstock against the hip, hold the fore-end down with the off-side hand, pull the trigger and rack the big loop lever. The faster you do this the more fun it is. Using this method I could ventilate a silhouette target at 7 yards at the pace of about one hole per second. The problem here is that you are point shooting, and that takes practice, too.

I can't imagine what possible use such a gun would be. I can throw my tomahawk 7 yards.

I spent last evening looking at more you-tube video of this thing in action. Seems to have a ejection problem with the 180 grain .357 rounds... think I've crossed it off my "want" list. The friggin' holster is almost as pricey as the gun
