Hey, gun nuts!

I had a Krag as a teenager, there were lots of them around and they were fairly cheap as surplus rifles. Those rifles were taken up San Juan Hill by TR and to the Philippine War by Pershing. Loading was a problem compared to the Mauser, so it's service life was short. It could be worth a few bucks Pereg.
One can hope. I think Lady P is going to be hesitant to part with it. I'll see if I can talk her into ditching the .284 and buying something useful.
I only support civil rights groups. :D and no you would not have a gun now without them. Hypocrite. :)

As if without the NRA there wouldn't have been another lobby group. Nonsense.

Truth is, if I get serious about shooting and hunting, I'll give them a look and see what they do. If I agree with the majority, I'll send them some money.

That mod. 88 is an extremely serviceable rifle and the .284 is a very respectable cartridge. Essentially it's a .308 necked down to 7mm. It is currently enjoying a second look by long distance shooters. It's an excellent woods rifle.

The Krag is NOT a serviceable rifle. I wouldn't shoot that thing until it had been gone over by an experienced gunsmith who is familiar with the rifle. The K-J action is notoriously weak. The rifle does have some good points, but if it has any collectors value, hang it on the wall or sell it. It's just not that good a rifle for any practical purpose.

Thanks, Ish. I'll definitely shoot the .284 before I let go of it. Reviews and Thor are saying it's a bit of a bitch to fire. Any truth to that?

Yup. The Krag is likely going to take a road trip to Springfield to let them look at it and clean it up if they do that, and probably get hung on the wall.

Bitch to fire??? I suppose it's all relative. It's a light rifle chambered with good modern load. If you're sensitive to recoil I suppose it would qualify as a 'bitch.' I've never had a problem with recoil so I doubt that the rifle would bother me in the least. The free recoil for the .284 is about 17.4 ft.lbs. which is in the same range as the other non-magnum 7mm and 30 cal. I routinely shoot my .338 win. mag. with comfort and the free recoil is in the 33 - 35 ft. lb. range.

Nothing like data. Thanks. I just looked it up and it's not as strong as a 12-ga, which gives me some practical perspective. Doesn't look bad on paper at least.

Final offer. $22.50 and Mariska Hargitay's unwashed panties. A true treasure

Biggest market is for old west calibers, but I imagine there some out there that collect everything. Especially the old boxes.

I saw a few people selling it on eBay and the like. Didn't seem to be getting many bites. I don't really care if I make money on it, but there's enough old ammo kicking around here. If someone is excited about it, good on 'em.

Google ammo collectors and something might turn up.

Yeah, I've been surfing it for a while now.

In that case, the weekend after this coming, atmas is coming up to visit. I'll let him shoot the old stuff.

I have some 50 year old military match stuff that shoots just fine.
