So was Hillary Clinton--and she did the groundwork for finally getting something done a long time before Obama showed up--both softening the electorate up on the idea and having already shown where the landmines were in delivering it. (And dear, dear Bernie ran on a platform of tearing all that down and starting all over again--yeah, like he could deliver a tube of toothpaste.)

I don't fault Obama for not getting stuff done in face of the obvious obstacles. I fault him for grabbing at the job before he was prepared to do the in-fighting necessary to deliver and for making promises that he should have known he couldn't deliver. But then, making wonderful-sounding promises that you can't deliver worked pretty well on the starry-eyed electorate with Bernie this time around.

Obama worked to end the wars and in all but the technical sense managed one. I know we still have people in Iraq but still.

I didn't say Obama was perfect, you asked for a single politician who made promises and made an honest effort to accomplish them. I assumed we were debating on them saying something and trying to accomplish it. Not their skill in accomplishing it.

He said he'd replace it with something entirely different. I heard him say it--more than once. When he was challenged, he said that didn't mean he'd tear it down. But he hadn't said he'd build on what already--through painstaking effort--was there or that he'd morph it. He said he'd replace it. Don't know the last time you replaced something, but when I do it, what's there has to be discarded.

The bottom line is that he couldn't deliver a postcard and, after twenty-five years in the U.S. Congress he hasn't successfully sponsored anything but the naming of two post offices. Why you think he's going to get anything done if he was put in the White House and isn't in touch with either of the two major parties is completely beyond me. I think you were just dazzled by what he said he would do without giving any consideration to what he probably could do from what next to nothing he's ever done before while being a member of the national law-producing club for twenty-five years.

I think it's a very long shot that the Dems will be in a position to pass laws after this election. I don't see the electorate thinking that electing Dems to Congress is a fix. I see more crazies, like teapartiers and libertarians, being elected with a lot of Republicans hanging in (by disowning Trump) and for the crazies just to remain nominal Republicans and continuing to vote "no." But, if Clinton gets elected, I see her publicly embarrassing them for nonaction starting much sooner than Obama started it in his presidency--and I see her as being meaner to them, which I also see as the only approach to start getting anything done and shifting to the center.

But I also don't really care how anyone else views it. I'm just tired of the Swiftboating and the moaning over the loss of the offer pie but do-nothing non-Democrat Sanders.
