Obama was pretty goddamn dedicated on healthcare reform.
So was Hillary Clinton--and she did the groundwork for finally getting something done a long time before Obama showed up--both softening the electorate up on the idea and having already shown where the landmines were in delivering it. (And dear, dear Bernie ran on a platform of tearing all that down and starting all over again--yeah, like he could deliver a tube of toothpaste.)
I don't fault Obama for not getting stuff done in face of the obvious obstacles. I fault him for grabbing at the job before he was prepared to do the in-fighting necessary to deliver and for making promises that he should have known he couldn't deliver. But then, making wonderful-sounding promises that you can't deliver worked pretty well on the starry-eyed electorate with Bernie this time around.
