I read 60 pages of HEART SHAPED BOX this afternoon.
Joe Hill has raw talent and his book needs some serious editing. I doubt he'll get the editing, because he's Stevie King's boy. My mind wandered a lot thru the first 40 pages before Joe got my attention. But the bottomline is: I dont like the protagonist and dont really care what happens to him. The Goth Chick girlfriend is a lot more interesting and isnt obsessed with herself. Georgia should be the protagonist, not Jude. Jude should be her navel gazing, neurotic boyfriend.
But Joe writes better than Clive Barker or John Farris or Peter Straub or Charles Grant. Its kind of pathetic, actually.
