Thank you also for adding to the list. (I just saw your post after I entered mine).

I will have to print out some of these posts. Not sure how many chances I will have to try these suggestions (and without looking at a map I'm not sure where all these places are), but I will try to experience some of them.

Well, if you need help, please feel free to give me a buzz. I would be more than happy to help and even play tourguide:)

As tempting as some of the restaurant ideas sound,

The tourguide offer sounds even better.

Sure! Anytime:)

But I'm a die-hard Astros fan, so that Cubs crap won't fly with me.....;)

...Someplace: your highest recommendation from IWC's list is one that she says she would not go to alone (and I will be traveling alone). Would you agree with her assessment of not going there alone?...

I went there with two other people. It's much more fun with someone else. The food is REALLY good, but I'd prefer company for the visit there, too. There are actually several Litsters near that restaurant. I bet you could scrounge up some company for an outting to the Taste of Texas.

I have heard about T-Bone Tom's from other friends but have yet to check it out. Could be a nice place for a get together but I am lazy and would prefer a closer place. :p

Anytime, eh?

And perhaps we can pool all our Astros/Cubs loyalty together to see if we can put a hex on the Cardinals (unfortunately, I don't think we could concoct a hex strong enough for either of our teams to catch them).

well,

I'll be heading your way tomorrow morning, leaving Friday morning.

With any luck I'll have a chance to try some your suggestions.

Thanks for the help.

Yes the last place was by me. I can't help it if there are so many reasons to come to my side of town. :p

Kemah does sound nice though. Just check with me on my football schedule, I don't want to make it when I have a game to go to. Ya'll are fun but so is tailgating. LOL

*waves to everyone*

Has anyone seen the new "feel-good" campaign for Houston? I heard them talking about it on the radio.

the "feel good" campaign?

Does that have anything to do with all the spas and massage parlors I saw along 59 when I was there last week?

Houston It's Worth It

From the Chronicle:

It's worth it

Drawing attention to Houston's afflictions might not be the right marketing tool, but Houstonians do a good job of stating what makes the city enjoyable.

Drawing attention to Houston's afflictions might not be the right marketing tool, but Houstonians do a good job of stating what makes the city enjoyable.

SEVENTY-FIVE million dollars can buy a lot for a city. Unfortunately, that sum, doled out to marketers over some 30 years, never purchased a slogan or campaign that successfully communicated Houston's elusive appeal. Moved by pure affection, however, Houstonians themselves have begun to voice the city's charms better than any pricey sloganeer. Writing in to an unofficial, unsanctioned and unready-for-prime-time Web site, more than 700 Houstonians have written to explain the city's uncanny lure.

The vehicle for this effort was built by pros. Wholly without city support, a small local firm cooked up the Web site "Houston, It's Worth It," which bluntly lists the city's afflictions — heat, floods, traffic, sprawl, the usual. As a magnet for attention, the ploy is droll, but nothing revolutionary. A true inspiration, though, is the campaign's second half: a write-in list for residents to tell how Houston has seduced them. Taken as a chorus, the e-mails do a fine job conveying Houston's distinctive culture: good-humored, adventurous and enterprising. Often, as they articulate what makes Houston "worth it," these voices are quite eloquent.

Writes Houstonian No. 233, "This community grabs you and hugs you, claims you, and makes you feel you can do anything." No. 341 loves rain: "Large, soak-you-to-the-bone raindrops. Fierce beautiful lightning ... and it rains often enough to humble you, to show you what is really powerful in the world." Houstonian No. 307 is a pragmatist: "There is no more affordable American big city to live in than Houston, and I love it." And No. 272 writes, "Houston is made up of the friendliest people in the world — a fantastically diverse bunch who generously share their cuisine, art, culture and talents with their neighbors."

There are also the comedians, of course. No. 291 lauds "good hospitals to treat my heat-related illnesses." Yet even the wiseacres make valid contributions.

No need to stamp "houstonit'sworthit.com" with a city seal or bestow millions on it. Taxing nothing but their initiative, Houstonians are doing a fine job of promoting Houston.

Someplace - you should submit some of your posts from Lit - you do an excellent job of "selling Houston" to others!!

Just back from dinner here. Will be waiting up for The Princess to return from being out with friends. BB spoke to her on the phone: "I want you IN THE HOUSE by Midnight...and I don't want to get a call asking for an extension. Do I make myself clear?"

What he mumbled after he hung up is now in my sig line. *grin*

Just another fun night at our house! *nods*

My life is so boring compared to yours.

We could make up some stories about you if you would like to live through our imaginations. I'm SURE BB2 could come up with something wildly exciting!

Me for one, can't believe what I saw you doing on that glass elevator the other day. It made me blush.

Seroiusly....that would be so bad ass. I believe the Galleria would be a good place to make that story a reality...if you wanted.
