What will you do to get 3 in a row for your beloved football team?

I still have the goat costume on rental for another week. Maybe I could wear it to the game on Sunday.

Cartier Shows Jewels at Houston Museum

Sat Oct 30, 9:01 PM ET

By PAM EASTON, Associated Press Writer

HOUSTON - Those who can't afford Cartier's jewels can admire them up close at the Houston Museum of Fine Arts, where diamond and aquamarine tiaras, a 150-carat sapphire brooch once owned by the Dutchess of Windsor and other jewels are on display.

The exhibit, which has only one U.S. stop in Houston, is unique because it focuses on the quality of the jewelry's design and beauty, rather than who owned the jewels or the time period in which they were created, museum officials said.

The exhibit opens Sunday and continues through March 27.

"People will be knocked out, maybe a little frightened by the brilliance of it," said Peter Marzio, the museum's director, who brought the exhibit to Houston after seeing it in Milan and Berlin.

Italian architect Ettore Sottsass put together the exhibit of 209 pieces from the renowned jeweler's 1,200-piece private collection.

"The basic idea was to select the items of jewelry solely on the basis of their design," Sottsass said. "We made our choices on the basis of that we considered to be the prettiest, the most wearable, the most reasonable."

The jewels, including gem-studded cigarette holders, binoculars, handbags, powder boxes, timepieces and more traditional necklaces, bracelets and rings, shimmer in a darkened exhibit hall.

Two of the more stunning pieces appear at the beginning of the exhibit — a platinum tiara from 1908 with 15 pear-shaped diamonds and oriental pearls and a platinum-and-round-diamond choker necklace created by Cartier in 1906.

The exhibit's final piece is a crocodile necklace created in 1975 for Mexican actress Maria Felix. The two crocodile bodies are gold. One is covered with 1,023 yellow diamonds, while the other is adorned with 1,060 circular cut emeralds.

According to legend, Felix showed up to an appointment with Cartier walking a crocodile and asked that they make her a necklace.

The wife of a friend of mine works at the Museum of Art and we go out there sometimes. I will go check it out and give you a review Holly.

Damn, it is cold! 45 degrees right now!!

First time since we've moved here that I've had the air off, I woke up freezing last night.

Time to get out the "winter" nighties at last! Velvet and satin... ummmmmmmmm...

houston masturbation group

I just read another thread about folks getting together to jack and jill off.

Has anyone very participated in such a group in the HOuston area?

What would it take to make such a group work?

Houston

Love the MFA. They have some great exhibits there, you are right. As I have come to know the museum curators here in Houston, we have some of the top ones in the world.

Get those nighties ready, supposed to get colder. That is what the Missus is for, to help keep me warm.

Glad to find this board

Was anyone else shocked by the change of KLOL (101.1) to Spanish broadcasting!? I just heard it on the news.

yes its all over the Sam campus me and my friends are so sad now even though it was goin downhill since clearchannel bought it but still it was one of the few rock stations

KLOL

I wondered what happened. I was listening to KLOL this am to the pre recorded show, and on the way home it was spanish. I thought I had messed up the programing on the radio. Now I know I was not crazy. What a shame. That old format has been here for a long time, and seemed to work. The death of an era.

Thanks Clearchanel :(

Looks like it is time to subscribe to KPFT, and get on their board to regain atleast one good radio station. Nothing against Tejano, but I do not speak spanish and like something better than a polka. I also am not a fan of (c)Rap. Many of the other stations also sound like Da Box. Looks like BBC is our choice for good morning radio, and CDs for the drive home. Listen to teenie bopper for the traffic.

Now I think I understand XM radio, but I do not want to subscribe to my radio. Man, I am sounding like a bitter old man. Best go eat my bran and let go of some of this shtuff.

I guess all this demonstrates the perks of being a newbie to the area. I haven't had time to get attached to any station. I'm still listening to my amarillo presets . . and the channels they pick up here aren't half bad :)

I wasn't really all that shocked, since it's ClearChannel driven. I listen to KPFT on the weekends, NPR and BBC in the morning, and CDs the rest of the time.

No one really plays what I listen to on the radio.
