For goodness sakes, people, it's not THAT hard to spell properly! I just read through a few posts here, and the spelling was atrocious! Arrgh!

It's called a dictionary, folks!

And when in complete doubt, just cut your reply from the reply form, put it in Word, spellcheck it, and then replace it in your reply box, (all before you actually hit 'submit').

Oy.

lol great advice.sometimes its really hard to understand some posts you find in the forum.

I understand the occasional typo, but an entire post of misspelled words?!

Put some thought into it, people!

And I'm sorry to sound so peevish about this, but we're all adults here.. we're all over 18 (supposedly). Why would spelling everyday words be so hard?

I'd understand if someone was trying to spell antidisestablishmentarianism, and messed up, but the word 'to' and 'too'?

bah.

hmm maybe they were drop outs or something lol  but i know what you mean.some times its just aggrivating to see a post composed of all misspelled words.

Dyslexics have trouble speeling!!

Take it from me.

Hmmm...maybe a "How to" spelling and grammar section? Would we need DCL here for that?

Anyway, I agree with you, Vix. It gets quite frustrating at times. My personal pet peeve? It's woman, people, not women!! I can't count how many times I see, "How do I get a women to talk to me?" Or some such other.

Here's a clue, folks:

Woman: singular, a human of the female persuasion

Women: plural, humans of the female persuasion

Get it? Good!

Btw, Happy Birthdy, Vix! Hope you have yourself a great one!

bah.
I will admit that that's one of the things I have a problem with, but it doesn't help that english is only my second language, and that I'm generally not very good at grammar at all, not even in Danish!

So vixen, don't you dare get after me for it :p ;)

For a person who doesn't use english as their primary language, you still make better sense than some of the other folks here.

What frustrates me and probably the majority of the people who will post to this thread is when someone rambles off incoherently AND spells horribly. They've obviously have something to say but when they start babbling with typos, it's a struggle for the reader.

I think we're all forgiving enough to allow a few typos slide by and even a few syntax & gramamtical errors slide by, but when the person posting can't even communicate a simple thought... it's a shame.:( :(

Criticize a "Dane with a Cane"? Don't think so.....um, well, maybe I just might like that!

Okay, I'll shut up now....

Poor spelling is one of my pet peeves as well. Sometimes I read people's posts and think, how on earth were you allowed to graduate high school? (Which I know presumes he or she did when in fact they may not have, but seriously, most must. )

Just an opinion...but...

How do we teach people to spell?

Well...maybe...

We could give a kick in the ass to a government whose social morals allow professional atheletes to make millions of dollars a year yet allow the nation's teachers to barely survive at just above the poverty level?

Okay... this post is wicked funny.

*ggl*

Damn straight the spelling in this forum is bad...... dropping the letter 'u', using Z instead of S, 'er' instead of 're'...... you ALL need some lessons to learn to spell correctly.

I say just deal with it. Not everyone is perfect. If you can't stand the spelling or can't understand what the person is trying to say, go on to another thread.

I agree Vixenshe about the poor spelling, just as I agree with Lust E.; about the syntax being hard to understand at times.
Yes, some days we all have our moments when we may misspell a word or two wrong, or in Emerald Eyes case, have a really crappy keyboard. I have done the same thing myself. But.... when you have a thread that makes little or no sense, why post it?? Do these people speak the way they write???!
Makes you wonder, or at least it makes me wonder.

-kym- checking my spelling and syntax BEFORE posting. ;) but... sometimes that doesn't work either...:p

I think someone once said, don't sweat the details. Well this is one of them, yes I know some of you perfect people never make mistakes, and I see that is a sad, sad thing.

I like to think of it like thus, imagine a vase full of marbles. Some beautiful blue, green, red, and many multicolored. When you are focusing on single things like the vase, or one of the marbles you miss the beauty of the entire image. How all these marbles shine with beauty and brillance through this glorious glass or crystal vase.

Yes, spelling is wrong, so what? Sometimes people don't use good grammar, big deal. You are missing out on the message, the beauty, the artistry of what is being said. If there ever was a greater good, this would be something to remember instead of the details.

Yes these aren't novels, and these are not famous works of art. Yet, I like to see invaluable insight in some posts because I am never so busy looking for the tedious misspelled details, but the idea behind such gregarious thought.

I say get over the details, you will enjoy life more if you focus on the good things, and stay away from the details or the bad things.

true Im one of them. It is somthing we cannot help, despite being a heavy reader if two words are put side by side one spelt correctly and one not I most of the time can't tell the differance
and it seams to be the easy most commonaly used words are the hardest

I can overcome many of the typos & I hardly let them ruin my day (much like the mosquitoes during the summer won't ruin my days outside). Annoying, yes but not worth losing the bigger picture.

What does get me is when I can't make heads or tails of what the message is! Is someone ranting? Is there a point to their message? Are they asking for advice or directions to a laundromat? To toss in typos along with unstructured sentences and misguided thoughts is a bigger peeve to me than misspellings.

Having typos in there just compounds the problem.

I am dislexic, and it is hard to look a word up in the dictionary if you have no idea how to spell it or don't realize you spelled it incorrectly. I keep a phonetic speller that my dad gave me over 30 years ago next to the computer and that helps with the no idea spellings, A spelling checker option on literotic would help I am sure.

What drives me insane is the story board and people using the wrong word. My understanding is that stories are submitted then read by someone else and still there are incorrect words! I find it very distracting. Sometimes I think about letting the author know but I don't want to hurt their feelings. I know how it feels when people focus on spelling and miss the content.

how about a spell check in lit?

Here here! Been in favor of that for a long time now. Granted it doesn't sift out everything but it would be an improvement.

then lets start a petition to get spell check.

Lety LE make a java applet spell checker, which can pop up within html text. To rewrite the php code to include a spell checker would be another might fine job for the mysql professor. Do I see any takers?

I think not, I think it is better to not sweat the small stuff. Perhaps this is a better analogy.

You can legislate laws to direct behavior, but you cannot make laws to change behavior.

This free will stuff is a little scary, that everyone has an actual mind of their own, and can do things, and say things weather you like it or not.

Really? Interesting.....
