How do other AHers perceive us?

You have been gracious about recovering from that and making apologies. That counts for a hell of a lot in 2025.

I mean, it always did, but, so few people have the class, integrity, humility, self-awareness and empathy for that anymore.

Way to set a good example.
Some of the best writing advice I've not only received, but read as he's given to others as well. Between @Britva415 and @lovecraft68 I'm not sure any other advice is really needed.

I prefer the term eternal lurker. ;) Although I post here far more often than I did on the site where I earned that title.
Kind and only seemingly unexpectedly funny; it's the lurking thing I think that throws people off. The fun facts you throw in the threads are fantastic and only add to your humor; same with your stories. Always enjoy your posts.

Others I don't really know that well as direct engagement is infrequent, but you all make this place what it is and that's a good thing; it keeps me coming back to the forums, if not a distraction from writing sometimes but worth it.

I propose that ear h person who is interested in joining post a reply saying something simple, like "I'm in." or "I'll join." or "Let me know." People want to respond should be sure to use the Reply option, so that it's clear whom they're addressing.
I’m (belatedly) in.

Unknowingly, you are the person who modeled good forum behavior to me more than any other. Any failure of me to follow your lead is all on me. You always support the rest of us. With what passes for dignity and grace down under.

I've never collaborated with you (not sure I would be a good collaborator), but you've collaborated at least twice now with Penny, so I will take her word that you are a good collaborator. I would certainly expect that you are.

You were one of the first people I became aware of when I started with AH, and I think of you as a reliable participant in the numerous interesting threads we've enjoyed here. You and I have had a couple of interesting back and forths about stories, but we don't share tastes. Still that's one of the great things about AH. We understand how taste can differ, but writing is the same.

I think you may genuinely be the most thoughtful, reflective person in this community.

You're supportive and encouraging of others, endlessly curious, and knowledgeable and enthusiastic about your topics of interest. You're often a moderating force in heated topics, without suppressing your own ethics and values.

I've sincerely learned a lot from collaborating with you in the last six months or so.
Also my mental image of you is deeply problematic 🤣

I agree, 1k votes is a lot. I also think this would be an interesting topic to discuss in its own thread. We rarely truly discuss the readers' mentality on a large scale. Also, I'd really like to compare our notes in various categories.

It's clearly not JUST about category and tropes.
I suspect you'll only find very high vote numbers in two categories. Lit is like a valley with a high mountain on one side and a chasm over to another land, on the other. For the denizens of the flat lands in the valley, the extremes are for others, not them.

Well, sure. But there are also noticeable differences even within the same category. I could give you some of my own examples and comparisons, but I don't want to derail this thread.

@iwatchus, @AG31, @PennyThompson, thank you very much. @AG31, that's a great point you make about not sharing tastes but still being able to interact. @iwatchus, I also really appreciate your thoughtfulness and our civil and constructive interchanges - I really value that and I feel like I could trust you to have our backs in the most toxic of environments. And @PennyThompson, it's all been said really! In regard to...

>> Also my mental image of you is deeply problematic 🤣 <<
... I always thought that a halo wouldn't work in the same outfit as the tentacles.

It's Friday morning here in Oz, so I'm out of synch with the thread.

I'm in.
Every so often you say something in a special combination of romantic wistfulness and emotion that catches me off-guard and physically makes me tear up. I think you're more in tune with your emotional sub-conscious than most people, especially among men of a certain age 🥰

We're not talking about vote getting in general. The point LC was trying to make is that peer support is so trivial to him that it's worth a similar amount as 1000 votes. My point was that for some of us 1000 votes on a single story is functionally unattainable, and in lieu of a legion of rabid fans some of us are allowed to engage our peers for support. The entire Poet's forum thrives off of this, and it's fine if we do it too.

Batshit crazy is what most would perceive me as.
The only people who would think that are those who have never been immersed in life far enough to see what bat shit crazy really looks like. My take on you? You'll have to forgive the blunt honesty that comes next. Someone who walked through hell and came out the other end. Damaged, (like so many of us) yes, but also strong, unbroken and proud. And unspoken mantra of "no one can tell me I can't do it" is yours. You make me smile because I can't see or feel a fake bone in you. I like real people.

But also I think we should all get to eat a cookie every time LC posts a clout screenshot of his follow count or of his story with "1 millions views" 🤣
Sorry, I can't take that challenge. I can't afford the pounds. To be brutally honest though, if it were me and my stats looked like that, much like Howard Wolowitz and his time as an astronaut, you'd be seeing it in EVERY post I did. Yeah, EVERY post. I'd have a big ol' image of it in my sig line. To bad I'm just one of those relegated to the intertidal area of EB's analogy, not far from being set adrift.

But this is an interesting concept and an interesting read. I haven't had a verbal whippin' for a while, so I'll give it a go.

Comshaw

And also I guess I'm In, because I love attention 😅
Smart, quite hilarious and a shining ray of positivity in a place that is very frequently filled with negativity. You also know how to stand up to bullies/assholes and oh yeah, you can definitely write worth a damn. The world would legitimately be a better place with more people like you. 🥰

And if I'm commenting, I guess I should be allowing myself to be abused.
I think you mean well and are up front about trying to navigate this fairly complicated social cesspool while also trying to be positive and open to learning. Your contributions are often selfless and it feels nice when you like a post of mine. And you wrote one of the most heartfelt stories I've read this year.

Sure, why not? It's not like anyone is going to say something to make be more neurotic.
You're opinionated and passionate. You're also an excellent writer and try to help others.

I have like five girl crushes here, on Lit? Idk, I don't keep actual track of the people that give me gender euphoria.
You're one of my (well, not anymore) secret girl crushes on Lit. I enjoy your insight into topics you are knowledgeable in and your wit is acerbic and on point.

I will try to regain a little more positive reputation in 2026.
I think you're fine, especially trying to exist on a forum that isn't in your primary language. Your willingness to learn is a very positive attribute. I think you could stand to widen your pool of who you look up to, however.

I’m (belatedly) in.
Well-traveled but still devastatingly Australian in the best ways. Kind, thoughtful and delightfully funny, with an admittedly dated taste in music sometimes, but hey, we can't all be perfect. 😊 Your stories reflect not only your experiences but also the deep respect and appreciation you have for the different types of people, cultures and settings you write about. Thankfully my mental image of you is not problematic in the slightest. 🤣

I suspect no one will really have an opinion on me except for those whom I have had regular interactions with, but in the interests of fairness and despite my inner introvert screaming bloody murder at me, I'm in for this exercise.
