How do you think the AH perceives you?

The inspiration for this topic came from @iwatchus 's thread.

What is your idea of how the AH sees you? Do you think you're one who fits in, who gets along with most people, or do you believe you are the odd one?

Do you think you bring positive or negative energy to the forum?

Finally, does it matter to you how the AH sees you? Does it bother you?

The topic is meant to be a tiny bit provocative, but it's mostly about matching our views of individual AH-ers with their idea of how they are perceived here. So, who wants to play?
What is your idea of how the AH sees you?
I have no idea. Me trying to guess how others see me would only be an inaccurate and blind interpretation of other people's views. All that would be gleaned from it would be a self-portrait colored by my closely held and sacrosanct self-image.

That said, I don't think the "AH" as an amalgam sees me through the same lens. I think each denizen of this place who has interacted with me has an opinion, but I can bet it isn't the same one held by everyone across the AH.

Do you think you're one who fits in, who gets along with most people, or do you believe you are the odd one?
Yeah, I fit in as well as I do in any other place. Odd one out? Perhaps. I've felt that way most of my life, but I also believe there are many who feel the same, whether it be true or not.

Do you think you bring positive or negative energy to the forum?
That all depends on what is under discussion and who it's with. Like the Yin and Yang of life, some things call for positive energy and some for negative. I try to provide what I see as what's needed at the time.

Finally, does it matter to you how the AH sees you?
Of course it does. It's not the overriding consideration, but it does matter. Not so much in the "like" and "dislike" spectrum, but more in the "straight shooter" category.

Does it bother you?
Sometimes yes, sometimes no. It all depends on the context and who.

The review you and Omen did of my story was not glowing; it wasn't heavy with praise, but it was helpful in a way I didn't expect. The things the two of you pointed out gave me confidence to trust my instincts when writing, and I've started doing that more and more since that review.

I've become a better writer because I stopped listening to every single suggestion put forth by people reading and editing for me and stuck to my guns with my initial story, unless that change made sense.

For the sake of my integrity, I have to point out how funny it is that “don’t let other people dictate what your art is about” is advice that you needed an outside voice to tell you 😄

You are a favorite of mine,

Am I still, after what I just said?

You are honest and genuine …

You have a wonderful sense of knowledge around writing…

So the sun does shine out of my ass and I am The Ultimate Truth 😂

Thank you, though. It’s nice to know not everyone thinks I’m full of shit.

Shhh. It was more "God dammit, grow a backbone and trust yourself a little." And I did! Sorta.
Am I still, after what I just said?
100% truth is truth.

The best ones are both wise and full of shit. Haven't been here long enough to tell if you fall under that though 😁

I'm new here but I think of you as the person who has the thread in the Story Feedback Forum offering direct honesty (along with AwkwardMD).

Why thank you, yes we do have that. I think reputation based on what I do is a bit different than what was meant here, but then all press is good press.

One day when I think I'm a good enough writer to be worth the time of such feedback, I may even gather the courage to ask it, but I like the openness and willingness to do so.

Well, we're notoriously bad at giving positive reviews, so don't get too good 😄

I don't see it so much as a factor of goodness, more willingness to hear outside feedback, but people ask for all kinds of reasons and you're welcome to, too.

As a nuisance who doesn't belong here. My posts are generally ignored, and I've been shaded a couple times with versions of "who cares, you haven't even published anything."

Truth is, I post quite a bit of poetry here on Forum, and I actually HAVE published a modest collection of short stories and poems here under other names [I've switched accounts a few times for reasons I don't care to share].

You'd think authors wouldn't be so quick to judge a book by its cover, but it's all good. I mostly just steer clear.

I have no idea really. I know a few people think I'm nice to talk to, hopefully AH thinks I'm generally positive and helpful. I try to be at least.

A little awkward, trying too hard to be funny, looking like I'm fishing for compliments a little too often.

I'ts obviously impossible to say. Sometimes I think you guys are all amazing and smart and funny and other days AH feels filled with idiots. So I assume that's what people feel about me depending on the day they're having. 😅

I don’t think I post enough or say anything of note for anyone to think anything of me—just how I like it 😉. I, on the other hand, think you’re all a colorful bunch!

It takes time.
People here can be territorial towards new faces. But that's also understandable, as this is the internet, and there are many trolls out there. You build your reputation with your posts, and with time, things change.

Thanks, your thoughts are kind.

I'm not really looking for sympathy in my own case, but more to urge some people here not to flex resumes based on their uncompensated content creation on Lit.

You're humor would be missed but the humor in AH is a bit different than in the playground or general forum.

When I read you're threads I do laugh quite a bit and you do have a way with the limerick

I agree with @Statius. Half your stuff seems to cater to the kind of members that send unsolicited dick pics and yet you definitely have a quick wit that is completely wasted on that crowd. Maybe try separating your posts. Know your audience as they say.

That's actually something that would make a great topic on its own - the way we perceive ourselves as authors, and often cling to some illusions, but I'd end up derailing my own thread. ;)

It's all good, I got my own thang here. Coupla threads, pop off in Poem-A-Week once in awhile.

I respect what writers here do. It takes a fair bit of work to put together a decent short story. I got discouraged by the factors people always bemoan here: broken rating system, trolls, complete indifference from mgmt.

Based on the recent complaints - two-month approval delays, broken AI filters - I don't feel any motivation to try again.
