How often do you clean out your messenger?

Just as it says? How often do you clear out the people from your Yahoo/Skype/whatever list? Or are there criteria to get kicked?

Or do you have a giant list of people that you never talk to?

I so rarely use YIM..I Don't know who's still on there.

The other IM I use is associated with my real name,,so I seldom move you to that unless we've spoken for a long time here.

Every couple of months. People i don't talk to or have stalker tendencies get dropped.

Not-talking to others is easy. I don't IM or chat. I don't phone people. I ignore email. If I want to talk to someone, I approach them physically and greet them. Otherwise, I don't. No problem.

Every 6 months or so. Some stay longer if they had extra meaning. If we didn't talk very long and they just disappear, then less.

Interesting... I do it about once a year... maybe...
I think it's more... if I feel we haven't talked in forever, I'll send a message and give you 8-24hrs, depending on my mood... and then delete... I never block though... so people can always get back to me, if they so choose.

It's weird, I always wonder what happens to the people I used to talk to, after we stop talking...
ah well.

I just cleaned it out today. Though, I try to save at least one message from every single person I've been chatting with.

I was able to cut my PMs down to 3....:D

Thought 'messenger' was a euphemism for...

um. Never mind.

*hurriedly runs out of thread*

I actually always keep my PM inbox low... No idea why, just something I do.
Once I respond to a PM, I delete the old one... it has caused problems... but... ah well.

on yahoo i clear it out about a month or so. but i only delete the people that i don't talk to anymore.

here on lit i clear out my pm box when it gets above or close to 300 messages including sent.

Actually, I just did exactly that....I cut my total down to 300.....

Once a month...if they never IM me or don't respond to IMs from me, I cull them from my address book...

a little thread necromancy - because of a thought

So, a random thought...

I wonder about contacting someone that, well, you've had a bad experience with. For some reason, someone's been on my mind, despite our last conversation going horribly and leaving me rather hurt and pissed off.
It's weird how the mind works... but ah well, I never claimed to be... sane.
Has anyone done this? Any experience with it?

I don't think I will, but it does make me wonder...

daily..stops my 'friends' from getting automatic invites to join social media sites and bitching to me about it.

yeah I know what you mean. I have never removed this one person after a little spat. We'd been good buddies for a long time. She is often online but I am invisible to her. One day I may get the nerve to say hello to her.

I just did a huge sweeping cull of my yahoo a few months ago. Only a few were spared. I wasn't talking to too many people there anymore, so it was just time for a purge. I hate clutter.

I generally don't.
I've got perhaps three people on my skype and - I think - maybe 2 on my yahoo. I lost a LOAD of contacts when msn went the journey and haven't replaced them.

I'm notoriously rubbish at communicating regularly with people.
Anyone who wants to talk to me usually knows how to contact me outside of messenger services; And i'm fairly sure I've not added a new person in years.
Apparently I'm not the most approachable of people.
Shocker, huh? ;)

Hey Max, hope you're well

I have done this. I think that silence can sometimes be more cruel than a truth. It depends on the context of the relationship.

When it comes to Yahoo I clean it out every couple months or so. I do block on there but only if the person says something that rubs me the wrong way.

I have and in most instances there has not been a response. On a certain level, I know it is a pointless exercise yet from time to time I still do it...I realize that I am probably sending a message to no one but ultimately I guess that doesn't really matter. What is important is putting out feeling and thoughts that I am having whether they receive them or not...whether I meant anything to them or not.

Hey Max, hope you're well

I've noticed the lack of regular communication ;)
But you are definitely approachable and rather awesome :p

I think I'm just going to send an IM, see what happens....

On point though:

Especially with Yahoo, it give you the option of deleting from contacts and address book.... I only ever delete from Contacts.... one of these days, it's tempting to just go down the list and say hi... see if I get any "Who the fuck are you" responses :D

I actually just deleted my yahoo so everybody got erased :(. There were just a few people and I could always pm them if I wanted to. I cleaned up my skype about a week ago, but I am usually lazy and leave people (mostly wow people) on for months before giving them the boot.

N'awwwww, you're so sweet.

I'd be willing to put good money on that IM having gone the journey in cyber-space..... :D

been using YIM since january. never 'cleaned' it out as such, but abandoned my first account and starting a new one
